After David O'Leary is Clive Woodward the biggest joke in football?

I'm not going to refer to him any longer as Sir Clive Woodward mostly because I don't think he deserves it. It used to be you had to do something really special for a long time to get a Knighthood, now it appears anyone can get one. Don't be surprised if Beckham gets one one day.

But to Clive Woodward. He really does know very little about football and I know this because it's a completely different game to rugby. You can not come from coaching rugby to football and despite Woodward thinking he's been in the game long enough to stand on his own two feet he rally should keep his nose out of club affairs at Southampton, after all he is only am employee, despite his glorified title.

He has come out today in the press defending his new best mate Rupert Lowe who is under increasing pressure to step down. He said "I think Rupert Lowe should stay. I think he is doing a top job for the club. He has not had the backing of the board, some of whom have gone behind his back and undermined the whole situation. And for the record, I am not a mate of Rupert Lowe. He brought me here to do a job and that has not changed."

Local businessman Leon Crouch who is keen to take control of the club said he could not understand why the club "pays ?750,000 a year on someone who knows nothing about football". I like Leon Crouch.

Woodward hit back by saying "I have given him the chance to retract them but he won't front them up. He should now put up or shut up.

"I have never met this guy and yet these quotes have gone around the country and dragged my name back into the spotlight. My salary has been reported at ?750,000 - I only wish it was! It is not even near half that. I want him to come out and meet me and see what I do and then make informed comment. But for him to spout off like this when he has not returned my calls and not come here is something I am not prepared to accept. It is a gutless thing to do. Enough is enough. I have been in football long enough now to stand on my own two feet."

Woodward can't stand on his own two feet and his recent comments about England going out to attack at this summers World Cup smack of double standards. Didn't we just all see one of the most defensive England rugby teams win the World Cup?

I hope Crouch gets Southampton and I hope he gets them back up to the Premiership. We could do with the six points if David O'Leary stays.
