Aston Villa beat Hull City 1-0 today in the 3rd round of the FA Cup. Angel should have had a goal but didn't and it still surprises me that Hendrie doesn't make the team week in week out.

I always thought it would be a victory today only because of where Hull are in the table - not because Villa are playing great football because they are not.

In truth Villa always looked on top but the performance didn't do justice to the gap between the two teams.

Angel doesn't look 'convinced' with his passing. It's almost as if he is trying to play everything 'too safe'. Angel is getting on in years and you can't teach him new tricks but somebody really should sit down with him and examine his game - maybe this will help him improve and bring back his confidence.

Luke Moore could learn a lot from Milan Baros and how he isn't afraid to try new things at the moment I fear he's falling into a comfort zone and not developing.

In my opinion Villa played 'too static' and the best player on the pitch for creating space and looking for runners moving in to space was Lee Hendrie - who also blocked a goal bound chance.

Milner is a great player and why O'Leary plays him on the left I will never know - he favours his right foot and whenever he gets an opportunity to shoot or cross he always brings it back which more often than not allows the defender to get back - I'm sure he would be more effective for Aston Villa down the right - again, something I'll never really understand.

For the second match running Ridgewell started on the bench and O'Leary opted for a right back in a centre back position - he has no reason to moan if he's going to do that and although Delaney has more experience it's not his position - how will Ridgewell develop if somebody else plays instead?

Overall, everything seemed to be reactive instead of proactive and if Villa hope to go further in this tournament their game is going to have to quickly improve and as most of you know I don't think it will.

Still, we're in the 4th round of the FA Cup which is nice and better than what we achieved last year.

I can't wait to see what O'Leary has to say about it - I can almost see the cringe factor increasing as I write this.
