A draw against Newcastle and more average football

Aston Villa will feel as if they could have left Newcastle with all three points but only leave with one. Gareth Barry missed a penalty with only a couple of minutes to go but ask a Newcastle fan and they will think they should have had the game wrapped up by then.

Both teams ran and ran but created little. We know they run and run because David O'Leary tells us every week that he can't fault his players for effort but surely we've got a right to complain about the standard of football - as much as Eric Djemba Djemba has?

What exactly happens when the buck has stopped? If Everton win or draw the game in hand over us we'll drop another place.

To the match. Liam Ridgewell conceded another penalty today but he shouldn't be blamed and he shouldn't take any stick for it. He doesn't go into the match wanting to concede a penalty and for anyone that says he doesn't know what he's doing again the buck has to stop with our manager.

Before O'Leary arrived at Villa Park Ridgewell was been talked of as a future England captain - it is O'Leary that is not developing him.

Good news for Gavin 'Smiler' McCann fans as he scored to level after the Shearer conversion and a good run out for Hendrie who by all accounts played some good football.

But to the manager. It's not the result he needed and I suspect after Bolton beat Arsenal 2-0 today they're going to be tough to beat next week.

Why not get rid now otherwise we're going to be hearing potentially record amounts of blarney from the manager after today's performance and I honestly do not think I can take another week. Please Doug.
