O'Leary: It's better players that will improve us

As David O'Leary fights not just for his job at Villa, but for his managerial career too, he has emphasised that it is better players that will save Villa.

Despite his tactical ineptness, O'Leary believes that spending money is the way to get better results, not play better football and use better tactics.

I know we need better players, but our squad was capable of challenging for the top half easily before, so why not now? I thought we'd got better players?

The most useless manager of my time supporting Villa (and many of you out there can say that and have been supporting the club 30 or more years than me) really doesn't understand.

He can't spend like he did at Leeds and expect that to win things. You need to then gel the players together into a squad. You can have the best 11 players in the world, but if you don't make them work together then you're buggered.

And that's what O'Leary can't do.
