Slow slow Friday...

It's a slow Friday today. There's not much news and I feel rotten after a couple of beers with Damian last night, followed by a few more while playing pool. I think Damian went on to have more, so don't expect much from him today.

Good news though is that Brad's work permit hearing is next Friday, the 1st of August. I'm hoping this time around he is awarded one as he looked good the only time I've seen him play against England.

Other news spreading like wildfire is that we've made a late bid for Younes Kaboul. He's 22 so still young and lots of potential. I'm not sure how good he is as I didn't watch much of Tottenham last year, but if any fans are reading this then please drop us a comment or 2 below.

'Arry Redknapp came out earlier this week and said he thinks he's going to Villa, and he's the sort of guy in the know so there might be some truth in this one. We'll see.

It's Intertoto day tomorrow and I expect a nice home win in front of a near sell-out crowd. It's on Setanta Sports so I'm hoping to watch a bit of it after I've finished playing cricket. And getting a tan if this weather holds out.

Right, I'm off to get some greasy food in order to stave off the hangover; enjoy your Friday and the match tomorrow.

Dont know too much about Kaboul , other than i had him in my fantasy team for a period and he seemed to do alright when he actually got played...think he scored a couple of three which cant be a bad sign. Think SWP is off to Pompey myself.

younis caboul was mustafa hadji's boot man when he was a lad.

wasn't kaboul meant to be the next thauram when he was in france? anyway if he was that good why didn't the venger boys sign him? don't they sign all half decent young frog leg eaters

never the less i am part of the minority that thinks mon is good at signing the right players so if mon says he is good then the boy is good.

I was hoping we would have had a couple of reinforcements for tomorrows game but I suppose with Barry back we aren't in too much of a rush, well apart from a keeper and hopefully that will be a done deal by tonight!

Ward. If we did have some reinforcements they couldn't play 2moro anyway! Not registered.

I predict a comfortable win tomorrow, and dare i even suggest Barry might get a goal!

ron, they could play as the players are registered 24 hours before the game!

I can't see Barry getting a game, let alone a goal, as Liverpool won't want him cup tied. I think MON has bottled this game of bluff with Benitez and he's starting to sound weak saying this needs to end soon. Why doesn't he end it instead and tell Liverpool where to go?

Here's the UEFA Intertoto cup rules on player registration. Looks like Big Brad can play if signed 24 hours before kick-off!

Deadlines
17.16 The player lists have to be submitted through the national association to
UEFA by (enter date)(24.00 hours CET).
17.17 For the three rounds of the competition, lists may be amended up to 24 hours
prior to the match, provided that the club’s national association confirms in
writing that the new players are eligible to play at domestic level by the
respective qualifying date listed above.

They raved about kaboul when he first went to spurs saying he would be the latest 'great' French defender after the likes of desailly and blanc but for whatever reasons it didn't work out for him there. I don't think he was given a fair chance by Ramos so I think there is a lot more to come from him. The equaliser he scored against us is a hint of what he can do. I won't be complaining if he comes to us, he's got to be better than Knight. After that we need to sort out our right side Miguel and Milner maybe?

There's a but......I was previously informed it's one match over two legs and therefore registration was 24hrs before the first leg. The Intertoto rules are a big document and don't have time to look into all the small print. Sure we will find out Saturday afternoon anyway!

Just hope the team mixes it a little and keeps the ball on the ground instead of hoofing it and hope for the best. Odense have some big lads so can beat us in the air. Plus they are slow on the ground. Let's see some good football lads and god luck :)

Now I see Carson comes out of the woodwork in the Barry Saga, why don't players just get on with their own game and shut the fuck up. Carson is the worst keeper we have had since Peter Enkleman and he has the cheek to come out, after Villa snubbed him, and suggest that Barry would be better off at Liverpool.

Real Madrid has finally bid for Van Der Vaart. If they land him, will that open Rueben de la Red for us?

I think Kaboul could be a good signing for us.Think he filled in at right back for a while last season too so could be a good versatile defender.
As for the intertoto game, i predicted a draw last week and fancied us to finnish them at VP.I still think this the way things will pan out and we and will run out comfortable winners in the end(fingers crossed).
Also read in one of todays papers that Arsenal are looking to sign Victor Moses from Crystal Palce but are stubling over the 3m price tag!!!we should snap him up fast.In my poinion he could be as influentian for us as A.Young

well the Good- we are still in contention for a place in the UEFA and with barry in the team we should be strong enought to get in proper and attract even more stars to our club

The Brad - Which one? by next friday which will be really good. we all expect Friedal to be 1st choice but lets see how quickly Guzan can find his feet we could have a healthy competition for the No.1 that we havent see for a long time! Not since Spink and David Platt!

The Ugly - Well Liverpool. I hope they buckle under the pressure of our MON over this barry ultimatum. Now is the time to see if they really want him. Barry will then maybe realise the mistake he has made by turning on the club that really loves him. This will see Barry as a man possessed next season. Scoring the winner at Anfield that puts us top of the league! Well if it was Hollywood!- Who's knows i could see Sky trying to buy into this idea

So Freidel now in talks with Villa. So can anyone clear up this 24 hr registration rule, as i've been told many different stories. If he sign's before 5:15 tonight can he play tomorrow?

This is just a big shout for everyon to get behind Gizzle Bizzle tomorrow. I know he hasn't done himself any favours recently, but if the transfer doesn't go through and he is still a villa player come the start of the season, then we'll all be behind him 100%. If he needed any more reasons to go, then a stadium full of boos tomorrow will help him on his way, so don't be fools, show him that we want him to stay.

From wot i've seen of him, he is technically good, but has no pace wot soever, which is something ifeel is necessary if you play centre half nowadays, but wot do iknow compared to MON. :(

middletoncraig1982 - well said mate, it's about time someone on this site saw sense with regards to GB, he could well be a Villa player next season and if he is I hope the fans get behind him.

please...please...oh god plllllease dont say we are going to bid for Kaboul, this guy is fcuking awful, more like Younis Ka-bollock8s, him and knight = pure leakage of goals.....nobody on here can defend him, surly not??

Kaboul looked like a good footballer last season but he did wonder out of defence a bit too much. I'm sure MON would batter some discipline into him and in 5 years time the Kaboul-Davies partnership would be solid. UTV
