Younes Kaboul coming to Villa, according to Harry Redknapp

Written by Damian

I'm not storing this one in speculation any more because it's all over the web that he's coming to us and I'd be quite happy if he does.

If memory serves me correct he got the 4th goal for Spurs when we played them last season in the 4-4 draw and I seem to remember him having a fairly decent game.

Anyway, it's not a rumour any more because Harry Redknapp thinks he's coming to us and it's not just the newspaper or a rumour site.

Talking to the media Redknapp said “Younes Kaboul wants to come here, but I heard Kaboul is going to Villa. I don't think there is anything he can do about it.

"If Villa are in for him he may have to go there. We made an offer with what we thought was a fair valuation but if we want some players in we also need to sell a few.”

I like the way Redknapp has said that if we're in for him then he'll have to come here. I like it because it could be suggesting that Redknapp knows we're the bigger attraction and it could also mean that he's not got the money to pay him like he did Defoe.

Either way, if this is true, I'd be happy, mostly because we'd be back to having four central defenders. Time for the right hand side now Mr O'Neill.

If I were you I wouldnt like it. Suggests the player himself wants to play for Portsmouth and that he's being forced into a Villa move.

Damian, are you mad?

This mug is just a horrible jumped up pr*ck, just an ego on legs.
Have you seen some of the comments he has made?
When he first moved to Spuds, he said something like "this move will do for now" and something like "I only care about how much money I am getting".

As good as he is (and I don't even rate him), I really hope this is not true.

Just a thought... when was the last time we signed a player that was actually getting in his previous team? Sidwell, Routledge, now we're after that Velencia reserve striker and Kaboul.

Are we going to sign any players that are can actually get in their team??

Is MON obsessed with players that are damaged / out of form ?

Can we please sign a player or two that actually play first team football, and are at the top of their game?

I'm sick of plyers that "MON will get the best out of"

Nothing spectacular or offensive about what Redknapp is saying. He's confirming that Portsmouth can't afford the fee or wages of Kaboul and we can - therefore Kaboul's choice is us or a stay at Spurs. Whether of not Kaboul wants to go to Portsmouth over Villa is up for debate, but who gives a crap?

A dual purpose young defensive minded player fits the bill nicely. Just five more to go, Martin.

I am sat here reading this and it is a total mirror image of the last few transfer windows. Those other windows ended in disappointment, i've got a feeling now that this will be no different, why should it be? We had the smallest squad last season and did nothing about it, why will RL and MON suddenly act differently now?
Can you believe we haven't had a right back for the whole of last season and we still haven't got one with a month to go. Something doesn't add up, I don't get it, a premiership club without a right back?????
Next few moves and quick, flog Barry, bring in Finnan, use all the Barry money and buy Bentley, buy Friedel and get a decent striker, not some new Savo Milosevic bloke from Serbia.
But I bet it won't happen and by the time we play Odense on Saturday we still won't have anybody else.
Bloody depressing!!!!!!! >:(

Kaboul is a poor player. Spurs form only turned around when he got dropped. Ramos even wanted chimbonda 2 play cb rather than play him. I want us 2 sign another cb but this guy is worse than zat knight! Id rather we signed dawson as hes behind king n woodgate. Danny G makes a good point, why cant we poach players lower down the league that are key for them? I know the squad needs increasing but buy crap cus its available is not gud. rather play harewood at cb

Time for a bit of optimism then...

I think Kaboul would be a very good addition for us. Firstly let's not forget the lad is only 22 years old - he has a lot of growing up and calming down to do on and off the pitch. He was spoilt in France and now he has had a massive change of scenery and needs to adjust. I personally don't think there are many better managers than MON to help him do these things.

From a technical standpoint, he has the ability to become a good Premiership player. Very big, very strong, his physical presence is most definitely his biggest asset. I would want to see MON and the coaches work on two things - 1. Positioning, he just needs to be a bit more aware of the fact that the Premiership can be like lightning in a bottle sometimes. He has been caught out so far but this will only take time and practice. 2. Teamwork/communication, It's no good trying to be a 1-man defensive wrecking crew, that's what the other 3 at the back are there to help you out with. This goes back to his currently less than ideal attitude, but again, that's by no means an unsolvable problem.

Otherwise, I think he's fine. A good tackler and distributer of the ball, he mainly needs work only on a few key areas, whilst improving his overall game. He'll make a solid squad player, and I actually think someone like Martin Laursen could be the ideal role model for him.

according to tribal football:

Aston Villa have tabled a bid for Real Sociedad goalkeeper Asier Riesgo.

Diario Vasco says that Villa have targeted the 24-year-old shot-stopper, as have Spanish giants Valencia.

While Riesgo would like to stay with the Basque outfit, their rising debts following relegation to the second tier of Spanish football in 2007 mean that the club may be forced to sell.

Despite Brad Guzan's imminent arrival at Villa Park, Villa boss Martin O'Neill is keen to sign another keeper.

Last season Villa had probably the worst defense it's had for a good few years and in order to sort this out MON looks to the worst defender on the team that had the 2nd worst defensive record to solve it. What a genius this man is. In MON we trust. Can't wait until Kaboul and that other defensive rock that is Zat Knight line up together. Probably will happen at Old trafford.

People who read my comments on this blog must think I am the most negative person on the planet, but here goes again.

Kaboul was an absolute shambles last season, nothing less than embarassingly bad. As others have mentioned he was dropped from a spurs defence that was leaking goals and at the end Ramos would probably have played Lennon at center half in front of him. I know we are all desperate for signings but call a spade a spade - the guy is useless and would be another typical 'not what we were hoping for' MoN signing.

Whats more - a few moths ago MoN said something along the lines of - 'we are trying to bring in quality, players that are key players at their current clubs and it takes time.....yadda yadda yadda' Kaboul is neither quality or a key player for spurs, so if we are allegedly going to sign him - why did we not do it before the pre-season started so he would have been available for the intertoto and he would have pre-season with Villa and start his induction into what some people constantly refer to as the 'MoN affect'

If players are in need of the MoN affect - they are not good enough to bring us to the top 4. I honestly would prefer the club to come out and say we have no money than to have this optimism for the bright future that we were promised, which leads to depression with our transfer dealings.

some of u are right that this seems to be going from bad to worse, mon is a joke and i am a very very very worried villa fan, if we dont add quality to the squad then lets say goodbye to top 6 finsih more like bottom 6 finish.!!!

wat mon has got to understand is that he doesnt have to mention players but he must come out and say to the fans that we are close on a number of players and that we will be making announcements soon, or just come out and say that we aint got any money and we are fucked as no 1 wants to join us!!! at least then we can be slightlt at ease!!!!

but wat's happening now is that every villa fan is funning home checking teletext, skysports, this blog, birmingham mail, and etc, and there seems to be no fucking answers!

and i know that it has started to get on my fucking nerves as i am checking the internet on my phone every fucking 5 mins!!!

so i beg u pls mon and mr horny (i mean randy)to sign some players before the fans start to turn on both of you and please remember the fans run the show, if we want some 1 out then we will get them out just ask o'leray, taylor and of course maybe you mr o'neill. nothing better than a top 6 to keep you in the job otherwise go back to that shit league in scotland and win another 1 million meaningless titles that u won there!!!

Kaboul wasn't dropped because of bad form, he was dropped because he wasn't a Ramos man. Jol signed the kid and he actually was pretty decent when he played. Don't forget he did pick up an injury as well. Ramos overhauled the team and didn't seem interested in a lot of Jol's signings.

We are an absolute laughing stock at the moment. For the last 2 years we have all been waiting for these big summer signings and yet we are still waiting. It is very clear in my mind that we are not going to get the type of players that we all want due to a nuber of reasons. Firstly, we don't have the money that we all think we have. Secondly, we have a manager who is not prepared to buy a big name player for big money. Finally, AVFC are not able to attract big players because of where we are in the country and our clear lack of ambition in bringing in top players.

Kaboul is a desperate signing in my opinion. As said many times above he couldnt even get into one of the worst defences in the league last year and he is clearly a mercernary foriegner who is here to pick up his overpaid salary.

I have now reached the point where I am no longer disillusioned by our lack of activity in the transfer. After 2 years of identical transfer windows it is safe to say that we will never be able to compete with the top 4, let alone staying in the mix for the top ten.

Currently, we are a joke.

The more i think about it i feel that Barry has made the right choice is looking to move on. I think he could see from his position within the club that we are not going to improve on the quality of players we are bringing in due a combination of a lack of money and MON's obvious weakness in the transfer market. We might as well enjoy Young's last season with us as well because he will be gone by this time next year.

Off topic abit but it is how i feel:
Stop mentioning harewood it was a good bit of luck that he had a good 1st season, the 2nd one is going to be the real test!!!
If Gabby Abonbon still continues to be a very poor striker he could do with going out on loan, the boy has it way to comfortable at villa? Plus i dont know why in matches does mon constantly play him for like 70 odd mins (with no goals and he's poor on the wings too) Then Hareweood comes on (usally scores) If he's been poor he should go off at half time in my opinion?
I just think that he claims to be a skriker but his control and skills are poor, and if theres no goals he gets sent on the wing and cant cross???
Send him to Whexham or MK dons i bet he comes back more HUNGRY

Games, it's all games. We know nothing.

What this indicates to me is that there are some negotiations going on with Villa & Spurs, likely over Bentley. My bet is that MON has offered to not get in a bidding war (we probably have more cash spare now) if Spurs give us first option on some players.

I doubt Kaboul is one of them, but who knows? We were allegedly after Kevin Prince Boateng last year, and Aaron Lennon definitely seems like a MON player.

There are games being played by Redknapp, who probably doesn't know who Villa are after and is speculating Kaboul to push Spurs' hand. Kaboul is a HR kind of player.

Don't jump the gun, let's see!

However, I don't profess to have quite the same talent spotting ability as top class managers such as Wenger and O'Neill so he fact remains there must be something there. If managers of their stature believe that he has ability then that's good enough for me and everyone knows we need strengthening at the back.
If he does come to us over Portsmouth and Sunderland then he can't be the money grabbing mercenary people suggest as, sad as it sounds he could probably earn more elsewhere. If he signs for us it'll be for his career and because that we're a club clearly going places under an excellent manager.
