There's nothing much going on today news-wise, except a couple of bits about the now infamous GB.
He returned to training yesterday but managed to sustain a foot injury and it is looking likely that Liverpool will not be making a further bid for him.
I hope he realises that if they aren't willing to pay the asking price for him then it means they probably don't want him that much. And if they don't want him that much, he's going to spend more time on the bench than playing the Champions League football he craves so much.
I've always felt the move for GB was more to appease Steven Gerrard than it was to progress Liverpool into a Premiership contender. However, it has become clear that Rafa is a bit schizophrenic when it comes to player valuations.
More interesting news is that Eric Djemba-Djemba has joined our Intertoto Cup opponents Odense BK.
The bankrupt ex-Villa player only spent a year at Qatar Sports Club and is now likely to face us at some point in the next 9 days.
Hopefully this will boost our chances of beating Odense, who have just finished their league season with only 5 losses. Despite losing to Zurich and Lincoln in friendly matches, I do expect us to get winning results in both legs.

Spot on Luke, although i hope you saying 'I hope he realises that if they aren't willing to pay the asking price for him then it means they probably don't want him that much' doesn't mean you want him to stay, he surely has to go at some point.
Although i think Villa are sending a message to other big clubs for next season when they come sniffing round Gabby and Webcam.
I'm telling you guys... if we're not careful Thomas Helveg will run rings round us!!! :o
webcam?
we are prob gonne end up wit a player who doesnt wanna be at vp. not good for squad spirit. but he is partially to blame as well as those two muppets from anfield.
I dont think GB has to go at all, ok he has ruffled a few feathers in the club but if he were to hold his hands up admit his mistake - publicly berate and sack his agent - i would welcome him back into the fold.
Whatever happens with the Barry saga... a win over 'pool this season would taste SO sweet - let's just hope Gabby remembers to the pass the ball to RC this time and/or no weak-arsed ref will give in to steven 'pikey' gerard's cry-baby antics
UTV
those two muppetts from anfield beig the schizo Benny-Tez!!!!
I wouldn't worry about Barry still being a villa player in the pool don't cough up - he will be shipped out on loan if thats the case! Celtic Probably to gain champions league experience and that flog him in january :)
If Rafa doesn't buy GB, his reputation will be in tatters. Most of the neutral comment has criticised him for the way he has approached this transfer; but to unsettle a teams captain and key player and then not to buy him will earn him fierce criticism and deservedly so.
As for us, not a problem really. MON will deal with him, put him in his place and then play him if he needs to. He's shown the footballing world that AVFC will not be bullied and are definitely not a feeder team.
Johnny, I certainly don't want him to stay now! His heart won't be in it and therefore he won't perform and his value will plummet. He must go!
vivavilla! are you suggesting a 37-year-old former AC Milan player could run rings around players who managed to concede 3 goals to a League One team? ;)
That made me chuckle 'johnjamesowen' talking about schizo! You have an appropriate username talking about schizophrenia! :D :D
Villa are even money to beat Odense on Sat. Is it worth a gamble? Yes/No?
We have to be careful against Odense.. this is no walkover!!
Well nobody is going to pay 18 mill for Barry... and we wont ship him out on loan, so it wont be to long until he's back in the Villa fold. I for one dont mind him coming back but of course he has to sorry to the right people, the fans and the club..!!
why cant we face that faroe islands team? it would be a lot easier.
oh and did you hear about the man city fans trying to sail over to the ground of that faroe islands team?
this isnt funny is it?
its because im tired.
and i cant think of anything to type about.
although villa are very very close to signing friedel.
UTV ;D
p.s. why isnt there a tired face on the face selection? this one will do. :(
We got to tackle these games as we would playing the scum. I feel our whole season depends on us getting through. If we dont then players won't come to VP as we're not in Europe and we'll be a fookin laughing stock, remember Varteks or who ever it was?!
So MON, if your reading, give the lads a good kick up the arsenal and we'll have some silverwarfe come next spring :D
Im 28 and can't remember being as excited about a season before!!!
UTV.
As i said in one topic theres is two or three solid rumours so for me things dont look to rosey what so ever
As for you haveing brad guzan on the in list i need to ask why ?
He has not joined us yet anyway and could still fail to get a work permit
Back to the rumours we need to be linked with at least 10 players that look like strong possible targets not two or three cause that still leaves us shorter on numbers than last season no suprise there uh
Hopefully stuart taylor will be able to cover the right back position for us looks like he might have to
thought there was going to be another competition
Personally id let him go to arsenal if they offered 15m.I think anything over 12m is too much for him, and the asking price was so high because MON knew Gerrard wanted him, and because of the way Benitez handled things.I dont think it would be good for villa for him to still be at VP next season as we rely so heavily on morale and team spirit.
Id like to bring in Lucho Gonzales from FC Porto to replace him.Might be hard to sign but he is quality, and has champions league experience.
Anyone else have any ideas on who should replace him???..(except for sidders)
Mon should Let Barry go to arsenal for 12 mil,and play Benitez at his own game
remember how they valued Carson at 10 mil to villa, then offered him to stoke for 4 mil.
Replace barry with Tim Cahill i say
Good team player good passer good at makeing space and scores pleanty goals what more do you want than that
Be hard to get him tho 15 Million maybe
Call me a cynic, which many of you do and much worse but I reckon RL is just seeing if we get into europe before letting MON have any money as he so far has proved he will not splah the cash without a return or bargain basement bin crap like Hareood, Routledge, Knight etc I also suspect people like Bentley are seeing if we get into europe before signing and this is part os a pre-agreement.
Pi, the answer to your question can be found inside the forum. If you can't find it, just ask someone there to point you in the right direction. You will laugh your litle cotton socks off, I assure you.
I did Aston Villa had good fan following as well...good stuff...
Cahill - yeah, go for it MON.
Taglor, I don't know what you mean. Cynical? Never in a million years. Joking aside, you're probably right about the players waiting to see, but I don't have many doubts ((yet) about RL. I believe that he knows what is required in thegeneral sense to get Villa to the top. He is experienced as a sports franchise owner in the States, and is aware of the power of a big name player both on the pitch and publicity-wise. Ok, so there's no "open chequebook", but he will back MON if he wishes to spend big.
On the subject of webcam ash, just wondered if anyone fancied the chant "he's small, he's quick, he likes to flash his d*ck, ashley young, ashley young" for next season?
Anyone got any ideas who will be playing right back on Saturday? Im considering giving MON a bell and im all left foot!
love the young song lets get some banners made up lol ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Taglor I think you're right about them waiting. bentley deal is done as long as we qualify. So will it be a good window if this is the case?
I still love MON and think he's done a great job this summer not being bullied by the 606 whingers, and Gareth, cuddle me Steven, Barry. However we are a bit short and were dodgy at Lincoln so I'd put a bid in for big Lincoln fan the crowd sang to. He looked quicker than Djemba Djemba to me, and if we can get a transfer done for £2.58 we can convince ourselves that MON has got big money to spend.
Tim Cahill, although he's become injury prone in the last couple of years. But if we got Laursen fit, we can could get Darren Anderton fit.
Okay, maybe I took the joke too far that time... ;)
"On the subject of webcam ash, just wondered if anyone fancied the chant "he's small, he's quick, he likes to flash his d*ck, ashley young, ashley young" for next season?"
1 word... FANTASTIC
Odense 2 - 3 Villa
Djemba x2 (2) - Sidwell (3)
Any takers?
arrlui, you wud get amzing odds on djemba scoring once so the odd of your guess must be through the roof. more chance of me becoming a blues fan
Well I think Odense definately have a chance! We are well into the preperation for next season which starts this weekend. We have got new strong players on several places.
Thomas helved... forget about him. He is injured75 % of the time the last 3-4 years....
Unfortunately I am on holiday so i cant go to the mach
best regards
Jan Odense, Denmark
By the way,- thomas sørensen started in ODense as a goalkeeper
Villa haven't impressed at all. The season starts tomorrow and we seem not ready at all. The players look like the 2 months off have done nothing. We've got no cover in defence or in goal. I knew Villa / MON have left getting those positions covered to late. I just hope Villa pull it off but its going to be harder than people think. Well the away leg anyway.
In regards GB - I hope he oges to Arsenal because they're not going to do anything either this season or next. Barry is a good player when he feels like it. But they're are players out there that can fill his shoes - Sidwell is a great player but not a Barry like player and it makes me crazy that some people think this.
does anyone know where u can view the villa game on the net im from oz u see
Polishpurple your spot on regarding Barry, Sidwell is not a similar player. However i do think he will give us more balance in the side and will help Reo Coker's natural game.
It's gona be very interesting to see what happens with Barry. IF Rafa has not got the funds then i'm really not sure where he will fit in at Villa. Will MON play him? Will Barry give his all for the club, when we all know he would rather be cuddled up next to Gerrard? OR will he turn his back on Liverpool and pledge himself to the club once more? And if so, will he return as captain?
It's like a bloody soap!!
More to the point lets please get another keeper in and at least a couple of defenders and a right winger. Come on MON let's get some deals done, i've got plenty of faith in you unlike our dear friend Mr.Bhunji (who's seems to have lost the balls to reply to my posts)
up the villa!
Solution: Have Barry play for Aston Villa next year, but let him wear a Liverpool jersey.
I have always thought, why should Villa sell Barry for a knock down price or 'any' price to a near rival, liverpool or Arsenal. If GB goes, it should be to a foreign team. But he won't go, he will play well for Villa, because he wants to play for England & MON is employing the right tactics.
Come on you Villa Boys! :D
You might find Barry turns down Arsenal so he can go and hold hands with Gerrard.
