It turns out there was a third bid received by the club today, despite them telling us a few hours ago that there wasn't. Well, they've back tracked and confirmed that there was.
We all know Barry wants to go but we just don't know what the bids were or the valuation, but I hope this doesn't backfire for Martin O'Neill.
After the comments from Barry at the weekend I can't see him playing for Aston Villa again and I doubt many want him to either, but if Martin O'Neill doesn't swallow his pride it could be a take it or leave it offer on August 31st - probably lower than he's already been offered.
In other news today, former captain Dennis Mortimer has spoken out about this Gareth Barry saga and while I'm not surprised he's made stupid comments, it does shock me a little, that he doesn't have a little more sense.
He grew up supporting Liverpool and always wanted to play for them and now he is telling Barry to go play for them. When will he learn to keep his mouth shut? Remember him supporting Blues in the derby match?
“From Gareth’s point of view I can totally understand what he wants to achieve out of his football career,” Bluenose Mortimer told Setanta Sports News.
“He’s spent a long time hoping that would happen at Aston Villa but obviously it’s not. If I was Gareth, with one of the greatest clubs in history in for you, that’s where I’d be wanting to go.
“If he’s broken club rules then obviously he’s got to be disciplined. But if Martin goes down the route of making him an enemy, Gareth won’t want to play for him at all.
“When a club is interested, particularly in Gareth’s position when he says he wants to leave, it’s only a matter of time.”
We all know he's off but we don't need Mortimer coming out saying anything, especially knowing he only really hangs around Villa Park because of what he won at the club. You'd just think he'd show a little more respect, but I suppose we're getting used to his silly outbursts.

I don't understand why all these ex players are giving their opinions! Surely they realise that it's just making them hated?
Even Barry himself is completely stupid for saying what he has. Fair enough, if he wants to leave then tell the manager but why the whole world? He has gained nothing whatsoever by doing this and instead has caused thousands upon thousands of Villa fans to turn against him, when they had previously seen him as a God!
I personally can't wait to see him struggle at Liverpool!
Dennis, I think you should keep out of this. Barry has proved what an idiot he really is. Should've waited for things to happen and kept his mouth shut. Now he's made an enemy of the people who've put bread on his table.
Also since when was Barry a Liverpool fan? Before he said he was a Spurs fan when he was going there.
Anyway I'm not going to write anything more on Barry as people like him show what's wrong in this country.
Dennis, please stay out of these things I don't want another Villa hero to have the fans going against him
Barry wont go because L Pool cannot afford him, simple as that.
Ben - Mortimer is a Liverpool fan .. not Barry.
Watching him struggle at Liverpool would make my season. He deserves to be on the bench at Liverpool to be honest. Things are definitely on the up at Villa Park the next few seasons but Barry obviously doesn't see that! My only wish now is for Barry to leave for Liverpool and watch them finish outside of the top 4 and be knocked out early on in the champs league.
Fed up with Barry, fed up wth Liverpool. Let fat boy go, subject to opinion he is very replaceable.Ex players making comments ie, Grobalaer on Sky this morning are just stating the bloody obviously.Liverpool are in the Champions League blah blah blah, we all know that so get rid asap so we can concentrate on the important matters ASTON VILLA FOOTBALL CLUB not over rated, Rafa loving GB.
I laughed when i read GB giving ONeill the 2 fingers. The man who made him club captain resurected a stagnent career and kept his promises regarding a England place. On the other hand praising Rafa who is currently unvaluing him in the current market.PRAT! BYE BYE SOONER THAN LATER PLEASE!
Let's try and put this in perspective. Players past present and yes the future are all in it for one thing. MONEY. Players do not think like us fans. To them it's a job and if the money is going to be better someplace else you're gonna take it. Irrespective of what your job is would you if offered more money better conditions etc take another job? You would wouldn't you be honest. The thing with Barry is he's got the chance to play CL football which is obviously now the pinnacle of a players career, long gone it seems that playing for your country was the top ambition of a player. That is obvious by international performances.
Not long ago it was always the top six now its the top four and CL qualification, a competition once played in by the actual winners of their own countries championship, now like the so called premiership an outrageous exercise in money making, exploiting fans, and where a tv company dictates kick off times. A league so fulll of oversea players where you only have to be english to more or less ensure to get an international call up, where eventually players in the championship will soon have a chance.
Gareth Barry has always seemd a sensible level headed young man, and you aint gotta be a genius to realise he's had his head turned since playing for england, it's a pity but this is what life is like nowadays.
oh well, that was liverpools final bid and it was rejected. barry is still a villa player then. lets just hope its all over. bet it wont be though.
I dont object to Barry going I accept LFC are a bigger club. No problem. Frankly his exclusive to the NOTW made him look a money grabbing twat. If Villa say they dont accept Liverpools valuation, who values him more highly? Us or them? What he has done is objectionable and I don't want him down here any more.
Does anybody else wonder how much money MON actually has to spend? My impression is that there is big bucks available but MON reluctant to spend unless he really does fancy the player big time. However, i was just reading on the Telegraph website how they thing villa have a bidget of £10m whatever we get for Barry. If thats the case, i'm really gutted. Am i being deluded to think that MON would have at least £30m before having to sell Barry to go and not only buff up the squad but to actually by some first teamers?
MarcusHa
That £10mn. is just opinion.
However, if we end up spending only that and what we get for Barry, there will be a few angry people - because that isn't what we've been led to believe.
i think barry may well have to eat his words in the end. mon is no mug and does not suffer fools gladly. i've said before that i like what mon is doing this summer. he is taking no shit. this is exactly what the best prem manager (fergie) would do if in the same situation and imo has to be commended. apparently barry asked mon and rl what their transfer targets were when they met after the england game. mon i reckon said basically its non of your business, i have targets and will get them. if he had told barry he may well have blagged them to the press with that wobble gob of his. mon may know barry better than we think!!! mon all the way, you have my full support. as too does Aston Villa.!!
How can this backfire on o'neill? Are you suggesting damian we should just throw up the white flag and let him leave for under his value. Strengthening liverpool in the process on the cheap.
Well done O'neill, he's shown he cannot bullied into decisions, thank god his our manager. Pretty much everything he has done in this shameful saga has been sensible and well thought through, quite the opposite of barry and pool.
Your comments are as baffling as mortimers and delaney. Sell him for his value not a penny less or he can sit and rot
Thanks Damian - I thought I might have taken that wrongly. I thought he was a Spurs fan.
Just accept the bloody offer and move on......Barry is no Platini (another dick) but more like an ageing Jan Molby, and I mean ageing!
There is not 1 club in the top flight whose budget is £10million or there abouts - Unless a club has debt problems such as Liverpool. So i really think MON has a real good war chest. He only spent a few pence on WR in the last window and that was it. With the likes of Thomas Sorensen off the wage bill, Barry going and good old Olaf then there is no reason the wage budget is holding up movements in this window.
A question? With Loaning players you can get a clause saying they can't play against you. Can you do this with a transfer? I'm asking as with business you can stop employees doing certain businees within that field if they leave you within their contract. If its possible I think Villa should put that in with Barry. But there again the thought of a hostile few hours at B6 sounds good!
If we dont spend the millions we have been told we are ,what are the odds i can get a refund on my season ticket.
With the ex players, they all have an interest in justifying Barry's desire to leave. Whether it's money, CL, or both, players are almost always going to support other players pursuing their own interests.
This is distinct from Rafa's tapping up, and Barry's poor handling and stupid comments. That's what I don't like. If Barry wanted to go, fine, but he should've kept quiet to the press so MON could get the best deal for the club instead of undermining MON's bargaining position. And then turning on MON.
Whether this "backfires" on MON. Always a risk when you're playing hardball. But 1) MON was pissed at Rafa; 2) He's sending a message regarding players like Young, Gabby, Davies, etc.: "You want to raid us? It's not going to be bloody easy. So hands off."; 3) He's not bothered about the money, as in needing it, he's trying to make Rafa pay, do what others have done to him, and again, send a message that he won't be pressured into undervalued selling. Since he doesn't "need" the money he's standing pat, and would apparently rather send the message that he's not to be messed with. And he may also be saying just that: "I don't need the money: so I don't care if Liverpool back out, or if I'm stuck with Gareth."
All in all, I'm quite proud of MON. Someone's finally standing up the top4 and saying bollocks.
And MON's only got £10m? Seems like baseless/stupid speculation considering he apparently lodged a £15m bid for Bentley and has been simultaneously pursuing Sidwell. What, he's going to make up the numbers with 6-10 £1m players? I hardly think so. If that was his budget, he'd not even bother, and wouldn't talk about perhaps introducing 7 players in one day. He'd be covering his ass and saying he only has limited funds, and let the fans' ire be directed to the man holding the purse strings.
please please damian change the bloomin subject,i like many villa fans dont want to hear about the barry saga no more just report when he has finally fcked off i know theres not much more happening and its not your fault but try and do us all a favour....ps hope we start signing someone soon
As a Liverpool fan i thought Villa were in the top eschelons when it came to football fans i am old enough to remember shouting for them when they won the European cup This is what he is saying he is 28 and look at it this way 29 2009 cause Villa can not be in the final stages of the european cup if Villa dont finish in the top four next year he will be 31 when the closing stages of the european cup is played our own star player Gerard has told us he wont wait around if we cannot challenge for the E P L RONALDO IS OFF TO REAL, ADEBYOR IS OFF TO BARCA, LAMPARD TO INTER so stop being so insular you have to finish top four and have a good run in the european cup but sometimes even thats not enough
gotta remember there all footballers they have been living in coo coo land all there careers they have no common sense and think that whatever they do is ok cos everyone kisses there arse
There have been many wise words spoken over the last month or so, especially in this particular thread. I am, however, now begining to get really fu*ked off with the whole sorry saga.
MON has IMO been fantastic, strong and objective with a certain degree of smugness, he has a plan!!
Woe betide any and all who try to upset that plan, let's draw a line under Barry (the traitor) and move on.
fucking yawn, so sick of this Barry saga and hope the deal gets done quickly
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz this sooo Boring, right..
Liverpool give us 18 mill, if not then he rots in the reserves..end of.
And the rumour of Lee Naylor........oh my friggin god, is MON off his friggin head, is that the best he can do?? he's a Championship player at best!
Ha Vogra...
I was just about to write a load of Z's myself.... ;D ;D ;D ;D
ZZZZZZzzzzzzZZZZZzzzzzz
I AM SO BORED, SELL HIM AND LETS MOVE ON....
ZZZZZZzzzzzzZZZZZzzzzzz
I have to say that I too am sick of Gareth Barry and the way Liverpool have tried to bully us into selling. Benitez shot himself in the foot by trying to value Crouch at £15 million and he deserves what he gets. Barry can go but at least try to be realistic. Barry has to be worth more than Crouch!!! I for one am glad to see Marting O'Neil handing out some discipline players are emplyees and it seems to me these days contracts are only worth it until the player decides he's had enough. To my mind that just isn't right!
I think it's about time that clubs who have to put up with arrogant greedy players who constantly demand moves whilst under contract should be allowed to be sued by their clubs for being in breach! It would happen in other areas of employment it's disgraceful. The cost of which shoul be taken out of the transfer agreement thus punishing the poaching club. For me Barry can clear off and languish at Liverpool as they, like Villa will never come within a country mile of Man U or Chelsea so he'll never be much better off.
We are all fed up of the GB saga and want to talk about something else soon. But this saga has been interesting as well. We've learnt a few things these past few weeks.
Liverpool big club? no way.. they're skint ! Rafa is hanging onto his job by his fingertips and he's a jellyfish. Meanwhile MON shows he wont be pushed around by anyone good for him!
And what about all the old villians... Dennis (speak like a scouse) Mortimer who once told everyone to support the Blues and Mark ( sick note.. where's my 5 yr deal ) Delany. We thought they were like us but they are not. They are just desperate for the cash for another bit of bling. Villa have paid you guys well. If you so desperately wanted to give GB your advice..why didn't you ring him ? Im sure you have his number. No! you guys were offered a few shillings and so you decided to run down our club and a decent manager to line your own pockets. And for one I'll never forget
Delaney / Mortimer you've no place in Villa hearts, you've sold your rights to that, for a few pieces of silver !
As i said we've learnt a few good lessons in this boring GB saga..... knowing who really loves our club being one of the best.
he is going to be great in the liverpool team and will score an hatrick against villa on return.
joyce - has anyone ever scored a hatrick after coming off the bench in the 76th minute to play left back?
yes,,it was salifou...he came off the bench in the 83rd min as a replacement keeper, and scored 11 times,,would have been 12 but he insisted on taking a penalty from his own penalty spot...
yes,salifou..came on in the 85 min,as a replacement keeper,,he scored 11,,would have been 12,but he insisted on takeing a penalty from his own penalty spot..
hands up all those who can remember last summers kit launch,,people were saying, things like we wonder which new players model the kits,,,as we all spent the close season dreaming about our world class signings,,players which were needed to bolster our small squad,,well one year on and the squads getting smaller, and only 3 weeks to our first match a match which was hard fought to get to,,an entry into europe...you would have thought something would have been done about getting some more players in,,,do we have any money to spend, and i thought we were suposed to be pushing on to bigger things...me thinks not....does anyone know if weve got a squad of 18 for the first game in a few weeks,,and if so whos our sub goalie,,or was that why mon purchased salifou
the days just keep passing us by. its now 2 weeks on saturday till the first competitive game and still no one signed!!! FFS!!
Only 5 prem clubs have not signed anyone, man utd who have a massive squad, everton who had 7 more players than us last year and a squad to play in europe and prem, west ham who have numerous players, stoke who i dont care about and us!! And not only that we have let 5 go - 6 with Barry!!! What the f*ck is going on!!
we have 14 fit players reporting to training - and only 2 defenders and 1 goalie. Bouma has extra time off. I hope laursen and knight both get injured in 1st trainig session so mon begins to look like the fool he is proving himself to be in the transfer market.
Sell for £16.5 million to fund a replacement of better standard. Diego please.
Barry needs to leave or he'll be lacking confidence for us next season, his own fault, yes. Trade for Xabi Alonso?
Damian - â€From Garethâ€s point of view I can totally understand what he wants to achieve out of his football career,†Bluenose Mortimer told Setanta Sports News.
Mortimer supports Liverpool? Or Birmingham City? Or Everton? Kindly uncontradict yourself.
Fuck, Barry's transfer is slowly becoming the Jar Jar Binks of Aston Villa; amusing at first and then you want to grind his face into the first inanimate object you happen to stumble across.
"Mesa not go back to Aston Villa-sah, they do tewwible, TEWWIBLE TINGS!"
Let's not win the war by falling over the opposition and hope they shoot each other in the foot.
joyce kiss my arse and get real, he's never scored a hatrick for villa keep to the tuppa ware parrties going and fuck off back o the plastic glory hunters message boards
Bet Barry is really starting to sweat now we've turned down another offer!!! Looks like MON is really determined to not be pushed around or forced into a move by either Rafa or Barry - well done that man!!!
As for all these ex Villa players I think they would get a lot more respect if they caveat what they say by condemning Barrys approach and don't expect VIP treatment at Villa Park. Especially Delaney - he should be thrown out once and for all, lazy tit!
well done mon,i would rather see barry rot on the subs bench than give in to cheapskate rafa, liverpud are renowned for stealing lets not let them get away with it.
i am as sick of the barry saga as everyone else,i have faith in mon,and will be stood in the holte as i have for the last fifty years, supporting those who wear our colours with pride, barry can rot on the bench or run off to cheapskate rafa what is important is aston villa and i for one will stand by them whatever.
I think GB will be sold before Aug 12th. I know thats a fair old way away yet but if we sell after that his value may go down because The fat man has to have his players registered for Europe by then. However... If MON were spitefull, he may take a less amount just to sell him after this date to stick two fingers up to GB!
Man City sign Jo and have a 50/50 chance of signing Ronaldaihno according to Mark Hughes while we are being linked with Lee Naylor. Tells me everything i need to know where this club is heading and at this stage i would'nt blame Barry for leaving. I still think he is a w#nker for doing it but MON is a bigger tw#t in my mind. We are going to be left behind because of the dinosaur of a manager we have. All the best to City. Least they have some real ambition unlike our bullshit club.
call me a sinic. no go on call me a sinic.
barry's public outburst preceeded liverpools 'final offer'?
i am afriad that to me the darth barry and evil empora Rafa are in in cahoots. they are plotting together to stitch up mon and villa.
we need to repel the advances of the dark lord with our rebel alliance.
The jedi night salifou skywalker will lead the strike squadron along with hans agbon and the rest of the carew. they will be flanked by the young wookie and C 3 P E t O rov.
Top 4 here we come. I can feel it the force is strong with us.
I think a defence of bouma, laursen, davis and miguel.
mid field 5 of van der vaart, sidwell, petrov, young and bently,
big john up top
is a top four team with mons guidance. Maybe not as good as others in the top 4 on paper but mon has provded that it aint all about the players!
@ak27, heard exactly the same thing last summer mate... remind me, where did man city finish in relation to us??
I think they finished about 5 points behind us. They were badly lacking srikers but they have a relly good defense unlike us. They like us are a work in progress but at least they are after players that have quality while we are looking at signing plebs that can't get onto teams that are below us in the league. Villafandan if Ronaldinho would join Man City (and apparently he is considering it)why would he not join Villa? So why are we not going for him? Do we not have the money or is it MON doesn't think he is as good as Routledge, Saliou?
rafa is really starting to pi## me off. if i was barry i would wondering how much liverpool really wanted me, they know the valuation villa want - £18m, but they have bid so far £10, 12, 13 & 15m for him. cant wait for benitez to come down villa park start of the season give him some of the harry redknapp treatmentfrom last season. hahahahahaha
ak27 are you honestly slating MON?what exactly has he done wrong since he has been at the villa?moved us from 16th to 6th?not the work of a twat if you ask me!.....im getting just as annoyed with the lack of signings so far but it is only early days!!!yes we start the intertoto in two weeks, but to be honest whoever we play in the intertoto, we could probably field my sunday league team and win!!!!give magical martin time, and he will deliver like he has done since he has been here..
If Rafa thinks Barry is worth less than Crouch, who only gets 20 mins on the pitch, unless he's putting a B Team out against the Blues! (He didn't get on at all in the CL final!) How much does Barry think he'll play him?
I hope someone like Man City (who do seem to have the money), come in with a decent offer which will really p**s on Rafa & Barry's chips! We get the money we want, Rafa won't get his man & Barry won't even be playing in the Intertoto/UEFA cup!!
Holidays & Euros are over now, so let's get some players in!
Big respect to O'Neill for not being bullied!
UP THE VILLA!!
im soooooooooooooo bored with it all
hey, we signed someone !!!! dont get excited we already have him Curtis Davis ! please tell me the club arent going to include the signing of Curtis in the so called summer signings?
Yes im slating him off. Yes we have moved from 16th to 6th but i think people are making too big a deal out of it.DOL did the same on far less money. There is not much between the teams in 5th right down to 10th and it is vital that we build on where we are now. This is the 3rd summer window that MON has been in charge and he is still looking at buying shite cast offs from the teams around us. How can the club come out and say that our ambition is to break into the top 4 and then go off and sign the likes of Robinson and Naylor while Man City and Spurs go and sign the best young talent from around the world. Im sure we will do fine with MON in charge but im seriously doubting our long term ambition and hopes of getting champions league football when we have a man in charge who does'nt seem to realise that there is more to the football world other then British players. By the way he is now 13months into finding a RB and still he cannot get one. I think MON is leaving himself totally open to be slated.
This is my first post, but I agree with mj, and a few others - MON is standing up for our club and saying this is the price. Liverpool clearly don't understand English - I don't think MON is hoping to negotiate he has a price that Liverpool have to pay and that is that. I think that this is fantastic, as we don't have to sell, and he is not prepared to be bullied.
On another note, like a lot of the others, I think we have got money to spend, but it's like MON feels like it is his money (maybe it is!!!) and I wish he would just realise that sometimes you have to pay for a player and get them in. I do worry that we let people go before replacing them, and if you are going to do that you leave yourself in our currently vulnerable position.
We need to start moving fast, and if that means paying slightly over the odds then so be it
UTV
this whole situation is starting to get pathetic now. barry hasnt covered himself in glory. we jus need to make sure we dont get f****d over by those parasites from liverpool and that roach of a manager
Donâ€t know whatâ€s all the doom and gloom weâ€ve signed 13 players so far according AVFC and weâ€re still in second place in the premiere league.
Jordan Collins, Chris Herd, Jonathan Hogg, Shane Lowry, Tobias Mikaelsson, Sam Williams, Marc Albrighton, Barry Bannan, Ciaran Clark, Elliott Parish, Matthew Roome, Sam Simmonds and ofcourse England international Curtis Davis.
CL here we come Barry!
ak27- you have hit the nail on the head.
O'Neill lives on the pundits and medias hype machine.
He as yet has nothing to inspire. He is as I keep saying a serial underspender.
Players seem to respond to the media hype and up their game BUT, that cant last forever. Good will is not infinite and we have to remember thatfootball players are a pretty shallow bunch.
They need challenging by the club signing some 'world class' players (forget the half decent Barry's of this world I mean real quality. That means spending some money and taking a gamble. WHAT IS THE POINT OF HAVING A SUPER RICH OWNER AND LIVING ON A TIGHT BUDGET.
MON is fit for nothing but picking up the bargains in the supermarket and saving electricity by turning the lights out in the dressing room when everyone has gone home.
Get real O'Neill you have to spend not only to challenge for anything but to SURVIVE in this league!
Spot on, Darryl.
There is a way to sort this out. Barry hands in a transfer request and gives up his £4m loyalty bonus (which is itself a joke) then we sell him for £14 - £15m. Everyone is happy.
Turning to the small matter of having a squad big enough for anything other than 5 a-side I think we need
2 GK
1 back up LB
1 RB
2 Centre Midfield
1 Striker
Thats assuming we don't lose anybody else! MON does not have a great track record in the transfer market, for every Young there is a Petrov or Zat Knight, with Spurs, Man City and Newcastle strengthening I can see us not finishing top 10 at this rate.
first of all. we are not being linked with fat goofy ronaldinho and the not so proven premiership striker that is jo because WE DO NOT WANT THEM. ( mark hughes hasn't signed these players, the well known footballing oracle that is thaksin sinatra? has to apease his massive ego)
can people please stop being so obsessed with other teams targets. i for one think jo will flatter to decieve and if ronaldinho gets his massively over inflated weekly wage wish to join city he will have 3 blinding games that will consist of flicks and kicking the ball whilst looking the other way and wont do much else. man city will not finish above villa this coming season.
also if sidwell decided to join lets say spurs (another club who some seem to obsessed with) those few would moan theyre tits off and say stuff like, "why didnt we get him" and "another mon bollock dropped, watch sidwell shine" its the same people who probably would moan if we did sign him and say "no ambition ffs".
oh and the not spending shite that people come out with, well if mon wants a player bad enough, he will pay. over the odds if he must. young/davies anyone.
you dont have to spend big to be sucsessful. look at mr wenger..
man city will get found out, as west ham did last season. top 6 will be the same but with villa 5th, maybe 4th. this is not blind faith or rose tinted glasses, but based on the fact we have one hell of a manager who does what he wants reguardless and will NOT be rushed or pushed around.
UTV (we will win the uefa cup as well. get your money on it...)
I cant believe all the idiots who slag ogg MON. In two years we have seen our team improve significantly and will this season be challenging for the top 6 again. I too hope we sign players shortly, but there is still 8 weeks left of the transfer window. I would like us to sign the following
1. Robert Green
2. Justin Hoyte
3. David Bentley
4. Steve Sidwell
5. Diego
6. Darren Bent
7. Anton Ferdinand
If we were to sign these players and 3 or 4 squad players I believe that we would have a real chance of 4th place. Not only that but if the stupid rule that UEFA want to introduce regarding limiting foreign players is introduced we would already have the main core of the team being young English players.
Hehe, just saw Kevin Phillips is going to join Birmingham! Looks like Barry isn't the only player who doesn't give a rats ass about his club! ;)
This is the first time I've had a chance to write on this GREAT website and have just become a new member I'm pleased to say. Anyway about "Barry", O'neill virtualy got getting him the England call up by the way he managed the squad with the players he got and eventualy got a regular team to play good and great in nearly every mathch. And I think he's kicking O'Neill in the "town halls". He wants to play in europe-we were only one spot away. The next best place would of two places, between UEFA and Champions league spots. gotta go. Love from Dublin and the rest of the VILLAINS
iv just seen tonights birmingham mail, Dennis is at it again ,dose this man ever shut up ?
Villa just get a move on, this is starting to become a serious worry. I can see C Clarke as captain come xmas. We are in serious trouble if nothing happends over the next seven days. A wee bit of hope from the club would be nice.
Proud of Martin 'O' Neill and the way he is standing up to liverpool.
we are behind you all the way mate, keep doing us proud
Barry thanks alot you sellout
UTV
mj and DSB 1: It's not just about slagging MON off and it's not being obsessed with other teams targets.
It's about ambition for the club. The wish list of half decent and underperforming premiership players is fine but even if O'Neill did decide to spend some brass for these players, they would all be incredibly overpriced, just like Gareth barry is in reality.
AMBITION COSTS!!!!!!
I've just seen the first day of training photos on the web.
It looks like they could not even have a game of five-a-side? There wasnt enough players.
Come on MON sign some players:
-Good ones.
-World beaters.
-Not cheap ones or
-really good value ones who play out of their skin for two months.
Come on MON ask uncle randy for some spending money and stop running the club like it's the 1970's
sign some players, go after foreigners already
dont worry about barry because he cant do anything as os this moment
just give him some inspiration to actually reconsider it all with some signings
The Barry saga has been turned into a comic strip!
LINK
This whole thing is growing increasingly tiresome, but what I cannot and will not accept is any criticism or brainless comments being directed at AVFC or MON. After all, it's all quite simple when you break it down:
1.Liverpool make a very public approach for GB
2.Steve G makes a very public statement of wanting GB at Liverpool
3.GB meets Randy and MON and he says 'I want out'.
4.AVFC and MON give GB a valuation and state that he can be off once that valuation is met.
5.Liverpool consistently don't meet that vaulation, so GB and one or two other idiots, ex-players and otherwise, give their ill concieved and brainless views when things don't go GB's way.
He is contracted to AVFC so why oh why should we be dictated to by anybody else? Nobody, Liverpool FC and GB included, do not have a God given right to dictate the terms of this sale.
AVFC and MON must not be made scapegoats for this, I for one am happy that they have stood up to Liverpool and GB in this whole saga. And Gareth, I'm afraid you aint the man I thought you were mate.
curtis davis has signed a 4-year-deal with aston villa. 8)
Im getting very very board of the barry situation
Liverpool you want him pay the cash you flammin muppets not like tom hicks or george gillette havent got it is it
You pay what WE ak do as your told rafa you fat spanish lump of lard
MON has to hold out for his price as this will send a message to other players that may be tapped up in the future. I've thought for some time that if Young continues his current form Arsenal may come knocking. As he supports them he's gonna want to go. This may well make him think twice about how he might go about his business!!!
For those of you saying MON is crap etc. etc. you're as ungrateful as Barry. He has improved the team and moved us on. You might not like the players he's signing but you can't argue with the results. We are playing good exciting football and are getting closer to breaking into the top four. I'm sure you have, as do I, opinions on who we should sign and I'd like to bet that most of them would turn out to be crap. I don't give a toss if Man City are after Ronaldinho, he's a show boater and unprofessional so they can have him. Why can't you just applaud MON for what he's done rather than criticise him for what YOU think is going to happen next season??? You know as much as me and that is sweet FA. That's why we're typing on this blog and not on the blower to Randy discussing the merits of making Barry clean the boots of the under 18's, who are no doubt thrilled at even the possibility that, at some point in the future, they may play first team football at this fine club of ours!!!
Up the villa, up MON and up yours!!!
;)
well said ghosthunter
i cant wait for when we sign players and all the doubters start questioning them and when we finish next season on an improved position and maybe CL football. they will all be saying how great oniell is. either get behind him or dont. he is obviously good at what he does otherwise he wouldnt be managing the 6th best team in the country
Ghosthunter your sweet FA knowledge is good enough for me.
I was ready to stop reading the responses to Damian's posts as I was growing increasingly tired of the repetitive ill considered nonsense being posted.
However I'll happy scan read thousands of numbskulls musings if occasionally I come across a piece as accurate and succinct as yours.

I can't understand Dennis Mortimer...he is fast losing "favourite ever Villa player" status with me. Reading his whole interview he seems to take pot shots at the people running the club/finances too. Maybe his outspokenness and willingness to speak his mind is what made him a successful captain? I don't know, but if he continues to rock the boat like this I can see MON asking for him to be banned from Villa Park - and I for one wouldn't complain. You're either for us or against us Dennis!! Your need to rock the boat hints at an axe to grind, but no one in the new regime deserves that.
