The BBC are reporting that Liverpool have offered £15m for GB. I'd say take it as Liverpool might not come back after that and it's the last chance of getting that sort of money for GB.
Liverpool fans, as they have demonstrated in the comments boxes on a number of times on this site, read the AVFC Blog regularly and watch Villa games every week so they would be better informed than us as to whether he really is worth £15m or not. I'd ask them to leave comments, but I have a feeling they probably will anyway.
Now, to the next piece of news. This time from everybody's favourite numpty Bill Howell. In this article article on the Birmingham Mail website he claims that we are about to sign Lee Naylor from Celtic with the possibility of wee Shaun going back up north.
I haven't seen much of Naylor but I do remember he was playing for Wolves when they finished bottom of the Premiership 4 years ago. He would provide competition for Bouma, although if he can run then maybe a replacement.
Newcastle have just signed winger Jonas Gutierrez from Real Mallorca so that could mean James Milner might be available for transfer. I'm not entirely sure if he is or not but I'd take him if we could get him, although I wouldn't break the bank. If you remember rightly he saved us from DOL taking us down.
That's about it for now, but there's bound to be more as the day goes on.

Lee naylor? I havent seen him play in years! Is this surely the way forward? If its true,im sure theres better out there.I also dont want maloney to go,hes a tidy decent player.
what's all this about things happening today?? Does somebody know something
I disagree mate
he has to go for between 18-20 mill, WHY WHY WHY let Liverpool get away with this???
Barry either should pay out the rest of his remaining contract which is over 2 mill, or we get the 17 mill and a decent player with it, maybe Carson.
But Liverpool have been diabolical over the whole saga and they can take him or leave it on our terms. Barry can sit in the corner and cry or he can me a professional about it if they dont buy him.
Erm, thats Bill Howell, Luke you numpty, theres only one of him!
Bring on Milner, more realistic than Bentley and better attitude!
Well said Holte-Ender8. Liverpool have disgracefully succeeded in unsettling our player, but we're not in a position where we have to sell him for less than our valuation as a result; financially we're sound and Martin O'Neill is a strong man of principles.
If they want him, it's still on our terms.
JonnyW, you are right! Not on the numpty bit though... ;)
Do we really want a player playing for us who clearly is going to disrupt the squad? They must all have heard what he's said and he's not the sort of player we want around. Let's get rid of.
I don't want him hanging around because Liverpool refuse to pay over £15m, although we shouldn't let him go for less than the valuation. But MON's valuation may only be £15m. Only the media have said it is £18m.
Whats it matter....If they buy him (Barry) fine, if not fine.
If Liverpool do want him just pay the decent amount and that's certainly at least £15 million for such a player. Are you Reds getting cold feet now?...don't you have enough money to buy a £15 million player? What happened to the big club? You Pool fans have all been on here bleeting about how much GB will be improved and will improve Liverpool, won't it be a shame if your manager could not afford him now! What's it say about Liverpools ambitions? So stop coming on here trying to slag Villa and it's fans off and direct your ranker towards Rafa to 'put up, or shut up'. GB will make a great partner with SG in midfield for Liverpool and they know that, so get your finger out of you butt Rafa and actually make a decision you muppet...I await the reds vitriolic responses on here!
No let him go for 15m plus a 3m add on ,for playing in 2 plg
Why are you all so obsessed with Gareth Barry
I know I am going on about this issue but what about looking forwards and upwards.................
GB's 99% gone. As a club we seem to have no real ambition. We put all our hearts into backing people like MON and GB but we have the smallest squad potentially in the football league and no sign of any decent players. We go on about achieving top four status, my god! to do that we need world class players. That means MON getting off his a*** and spending some big money on big time players. Birmingham may not be as attractive to some foreign players but neither is Manchester or Liverpool. Why not by them a bllody helicopter and they can live where they like. Come on MON prove me wrong and spend some money before the window of opportunity closes.
Just read on the official that MON has disciplined Barry. Good job. I've read other thoughts on this line before...but I wonder what Capello makes of Mr Barry's performance this close season, a time when he warned his players to keep out of the news. I'm not bitter that Barry wants to leave, but i'm saddened by the way he has handled this. You thought he could of shown a bit more dignity in the way he has handled himself considering he's been with the club for over 10 years. Mellberg is an example of how a player can leave with his head held high.
Darryl...I very much doubt there is a Villa fan that is not brassed off with this Gareth Barry saga. My reply, if you read says exactly, get on with the business, put it behind us and then we can move on.
It is a blog, as Damian used to tell me often, so we are discussing issues arising. This will come to head in the next 24 hours, unless Rafa backs. As I write it's on the news Villa have disciplined Gareth Barry and will not be at training in the morning. So this time next week you won't need to keep reading about the Gareth Barry saga on here. It will be back to discussing who we are going to sign in the next few weeks.
I have remained positive throughout the close season but with the squad returning tomorrow I think I am ready to admit it. We r f*cked. One thing we have learned over the past few seasons is that if you miss a large chunk of pre season things dont work out and regardless of who or how many players MON gets in it looks like that will apply to us. Dare I say it but I think one thing that is looming over all the also rans like us and Spurs and Man C is regardless of how much money you have, the Champions League is a closed shop.
If the Naylor rumour becomes true I will be very disappointed. Surely a player of this quality is no better than the youngsters we already have? We need to be buying players who are top 6 players. Surely we should be looking to buy someone better than Bouma, not just cover, if we are looking to improve. Altough he's a decent player any ambitious team would always be looking to better what they have and Bouma has positioning, pace and attacking frailties.
We start back training tomorrow with a squad that was easily four short last year, has lost at least another 4 plus potentially barry and maloney and has davies injured till october. With 7 subs this season we have to buy at least 10 players, surely? The situation now unlike past transfer windows is that we have to buy this time and a number of players, meaning if he cant get the quality targets he wants we will have to buy second choice, average players which will expose his inability to buy well in the previous windows and could prove costly.
Surely we have the money, lerner has waived the shirt sponser fee, donated 5m to the art museum and should have 15m from barry. so lets go out and pay the money to attract players like wright-phillips and the players from abroad he suposedly wants. The quality of players to boost the squad and provide back up/competition should also be high, no less than players such as bullard, nolan.
We have a real opportunity to push on this season after a good last season, with Europe a good possibility. Lets not waste this, lets attract some good players otherwise im afraid last season will be a tough act to follow and teams such as spurs, man city and pompey will be above us!
The way Barry has been acting, he may just by out his contract himself... and go on a free ;) not a great move by MON falling out wiv Barry!
Also... apparantly Liverpool have denied making a bid today so erm doesnt look good :(
If we sign Naylor then MOM should be sacked immediately. He is barely good enough for the Championship and it would just show what a muppet MON actually is.
Naylor - Bloody hell these get worse and worse .... Apart from Boruc there is nobody at Celtic we should be looking at. MON get off your arse and start looking at other options not the ones that are easy for you!
We'll be after half of the relegated Blues crap next becasuse they are cheap.
MON wants to get his finger out or i for 1 will be calling for his head.
We need to improve & to do that we need better players than we already have. I make it at least 10 more players but better players.
Seems we are waiting for Spurs for example to buy some quality so we can have thier cast offs.
Shocking.
just read about naylor hope this aint true,i played against him years ago even i ran him ragged.....and if raffa wants barry like barry says he does just pay up you fat spanish waiter...also get ready for 2/3 signings before next week.my money on robinson and sidwell, and dont shout, at me but someone like heskey...they been talking to wigan for some reason.
seriously, bill has come up with a scoop there. wot a legend (spelt l o s e r)
Nobody has really bought yet so should 75% of the prem managers be sacked?? lets see wat happens after the deadline ;D
