If our club captain wants to behave like this then I think we should make him rot in the reserves for 2 years. He is under contract so he can't just decide to leave. The club must first accept an offer. Carrick and Hargreaves went for £20 million. Why should we accept any less? I thought Barry was more professional than this but clearly he is no better than the likes of Ronaldo. |

If this is actually quoted from Gareth Barry then firstly i'm shocked that he would come out with such a thing while under contract getting paid tens of thousands a week, while fans who get paid minimum wage have to save to go to matches, and quite obviously the underlying current of his tone is that he wants a pay-rise. Greedy f*ck. Secondly IF what he says is true, then Martin O'Neill has alot to answer for. I love MO'N but this isnt good enough, Barry has several points about calling him back if he says he is going to, atleast sharing some info about summer targets with the player but most of all i am royally p*ssed off about his Euro excursion. It is just not on. Both parties have gone down in my estimation. Its sad. |

First off - whilst I believe that Barry has been a good servant to the club and always gave 100% - I am not one who thinks he is god and certainly believe that he can be replaced. In fact due to the iinflated price of british players - I believe the transfer fee that we will recieve will enable us to buy a vastly superior player - thats my opinion. The main point about his comments though is that it reflects terribly on MoN, Lerner, Villa's management and ambition. Before the summer - all comments from everyone at the club were 'number one priority is keeping barry.......we need lots of quality in the transfer market'. Now from Barrys comments - Villa have done absolutely nothing to keep him and couldn't tell the most infleuntial player at a club their transfer targets!! This is a massive summer for Villa and MoN is off at the european championships. He should not have a bloody minute to spare. If during next season we hear the 'small squad' excuse or the 'we are doing briallient CONSIDERING the players we have' argument - i will be physically sick. The squad size and squad quality are 1million percent the responsibility of MoN and Lerner and its probably the most important aspect of their job. All I ask is the club that I love for the first time in 25years, and with the best opportunity in that timeframe, to show some ambition. I hope that by the start or next season (three weeks away) things will have changed but right now it pains me to say it but all indications are that we accept mediocrity and are being led by media spindoctors whose words speak louder than their actions. |

Agree with the rest, if he wanted more money he wouldn't have promised half his testimonial to charity, he IS shifting the blame. He has 2 years left on his contract and where does he get off thinking he needs to be clued up on who the club are trying to get in? If it wasn't for MON he would probably be playing for Pompey or some other also-ran club! Barry has gone down in my estimation. |

He should not get tangled in it all. It's obvious Liverpool want him and although they have offered 3 times for him now, their offers are not worthwhile. If I offered 20 quid, 30 quid or 50 quid for Ronaldo just because I have been persistant does not mean Manure would sell. Rafa just stump up the 17- 18 mill its gonna cost and stop pishing us all about. You really have made to look a twat in all this. Barry is just trying to speed the process up and cheapen the deal for Liverpool. I so hope we pip those scousers for a Champ league spot next year. How sweet that would be. Err hang on a minute Gareth. Didn't you go off on holiday for a few weeks and then call MON to tell him you wanted to join Liverpool? Maybe that's why no-one has offered you anything you silly boy. And you did have a meeting and both MON and RL told you that you were wanted. Also I think he spent most of last season telling you and the press what an amazing player you were and how much you were valued, and now all of a sudden, since you stated you wanted to move, he's not saying it anymore. I wonder why? It's like finding out your Mrs has been desperately wanting to f**k someone else and then she wants you to tell her you love her and buy her a bigger car. Well sorry mate, but if you were my Mrs I tell you to f**k right off and leave your car keys on the table. And you ain't getting any divorce settlement either. It's a real shame that it's come to this because the fans loved you. We were the ones shouting your name from the rooftops when your England career went down the pan - a point that you even recognise yourself and have stated in an interview. I think you should have taken a long hard look at how you got your place back, and realise that MON's input has been paramount - as far as I can see it's only been this last 2 years that you have REALLY shone. So now it transpires that you're just like the others when we thought we had someone of real character. I hear there's a nice piece of wood with your name on it at Anfield - an I ain't talking about a plaque on the wall. |

I am obviously flattered that someone as successful as Rafa Benitez thinks so highly of me So were Pennant and Crouch, will they still be at Anfield come August? There was no offer of a new contract to prove how much the club valued me, no talk about players who were being brought in to boost the squad, not even a mention of a few possible targets. MON always keeps his cards close to his chest, does Barry really think that MON is going to lay his plans in front of someone that had probably already made up his mind to leave? Not a chance Gareth, MON is the gaffer as you yourself say, he is answerable to Randy Lerner, not you, you bench-warming red. I'm usually an optimistic fan, but I'm getting anxious. Here's my take on it. Gareth Barry is a decent. tidy midfielder- but is no world beater! I don't think much of his loyalty, Villa have been good to him and, on the other occasion when he was targeted by Prem rivals, again he said he'd like to leave. But more importantly, if what Barry says is true then MON and co really do have some questions to face. MON should not be p*ssing around on BBC when our squad is so, so desperately short of numbers and quality. With the exception of Young and Carew, MON has been a disgrace in the transfer market. Starting last season with no right back was a sackable offence in my opinion. And whilst our rivals keep making signings, he arses around on tv. I can't believe in the meeting with Barry- our captain- that he didnt even suggest some potential targets. Well, then again i can believe it because he probably doesn't have any because although he is a useful tactician I still think the guy is a total moron and my patience is really wearing thin. You've been at the club quite a long time Martin, its time to make some real progress. |

MON and Randy told him how much they valued him and how much they wanted him to stay, buy he comes back from Trinidad and says that his mind is made up and he wants to go. Fair enough, but why does he expect the club to get down on their knees after that and grovel and beg him to stay? I never understand why players do this and use the papers to try and force a club's hand and in one fell swoop alienate the fans who idolised them for years. |

Sounds like Barry is getting the same treatment as the fans. If things are exactly as Barry say then good luck to him, he's at an age in which waiting another 2 years for this snail-paced 5 year plan will only hold him back and - frankly - I'm sick to death to hear we have money and big plans only to end up with Zat Knight and Routledge. The man has a point, I've often wondered myself what is MON doing working for the BBC whilst the likes of Hughes and co. are out there buying players now, not on the 31st of August. He is better than Barry and a similar type of player. I also think we should keep it english. I would go for Anton Ferdinand, Aaron Lennon, David Bentley and Peter Crouch. Interestingly the same story is in the Mercury, when more than one paper has the story there is usually more truth to it. Gareth is forcing the issue as he is worried than Liverpool are stalling. Liverpool are being very clever, they have totally unsettled the player, we will have no choice but to sell him, and may be cut our losses. What we should focus on now is how we build for the future without both Garth and Olof. In these modern times you do not have to be a your desk to talk to players. Lets hope the signings start this week!! Another point - will Gareth be cup tied for Champions League if he plays in the Intertoto? |

This is Barry realising that Liverpool won't be getting him as they don't have the money. He's not really a person with a good brain. Should of kept his mouth shut and waited for things to happen. He said he wanted to go so why would Villa try and offer him something. Poor old agent as well he showed that he doesn't have much of a business brain and will miss out on a lot of money. I agree with people I'd rather see him suffer for 2 years in the 2nd team - He'll be out of the England frame within that time. Liverpool will only be a 6th 7th place team so its really going to back fire. |

Again, MON should be working his ass off at Villa Park not sit around mincing at the BBC. We all know that if a player wants a move, the player will go: the same applies to Arsenal with Adebayor and Wenger knows that. The "rot in the reserves" adagio is an old one and rarely happens, unless you are some low profile Championship player. MON may not be a pussy but he sure takes his time to do everything. I'd prefer him entirely focused on his job, given that the last 2 transfer windows have been a major anti-climax and we only get linked with other clubs' rejects or 18 year olds. |

Barry already stated earlier this month in a phone call that he wanted the move. So why is he complaining? Mon is not doing enough about transfers, but I think Barry is manipulating his stance on the whole issue to show the fans he is not a bad guy, when Mon is just waiting for the £20 mill cos he knows he can't tempt Gareth back. I'm a window cleaner, we drove past barrys house on thursday as he lives in Ullenhall. There were numerous transporter lorries parked up on his drives, at first glance it looked like he was having things delivered, but when we drove past the second time, it was evident they weren't unloading but loading. This pretty much confirmed for me and my work mates that he was off. WOrst thing is, we had a mini discussion afterwards, none of us seemed all that bothered. Six months ago I'd have been irate, but I'm so far past caring now, that I can't wait to get shot of him. If someone who's supposed to be our leader and captain, wants out for a team that we'll probably be better than in the next few years then let him go. I'd be very suprised if he's a regular in the first team. Get whatever for him, make reo-coker the captain. Spend the money on someone, a great point above was sign diego, he'd cost 17-20 mil. SO pay it and we've replaced barry with someone better. End of. |

Firstly I would be very disapointed if Barry has actually said these things but my gut feeling is that he has!! If that's the case then I hope he becomes a bench warmer at Liverpool and we finish above them (which I strongly expect we will). I think MON viewed it as game over when he talked about it on MOD after a Euro game. He was clearly disappointed that he had been let down by Barry and who can blame him. He nurtured him back into the England side and gave him the club captaincy and he's thrown it back in his face. Makes me nauseous!! Why should MON call him and beg him to stay or offer more money or try to have to convince him, yet again, that the Villa is the place to be. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me scenario!!! I say let him go for 15m - which I think is a fair price. My targets for the season are now as follows: Liverpool get knocked out of Champs League at the first stage. We have a good run in all cup competitions (including UEFA), we finish above Liverpool and we qualify for Champs League. That should do... Very diasppointing Gareth...... |

Lets be clear here - All communication related to Gareth Barry and 'the potential transfer' will infact be conducted by agent Alex Black, accepted that this is dissapointing, we have seen this happen many times when negotiations appear to stall and MON and RL will not be surprised to hear this news today (the reaction from all on this Blog alone will be exactly what GB and his advisors were after) Personally I take this with a pinch of salt, sure we all know that GB is leaving, however these comments are not indicative of what GB represents and realistically feels for the club - regardless the comments are still worrying and put in doubt the long term direction of the club as a whole. Two years ago MON bent over backwards to pursuade GB that his future lies at VP, anyone who seriously thinks that MON's existing stance is aligned to that of a manager looking to hold on to their captain "you are kidding yourselves" It doesnt pay to hold a grudge - we have witnessed Walters, Hodge, Yorke, Platt and Ehiogu all come to Villa Park to be greeted with the usual...... and score at the Holte End - coincidence? More recently we have been punished on our travels by Solano, Crouch and Vassell. Lets put Gareth Barry to bed - F**k him off and kick on with our plans for next season....!!! |

I was angry at Barry before, when he undercut MON by coming out and saying he wanted to leave. That should've been handled privately, so as not to weaken MON's hand in getting the best deal for the club. Now Barry is raising the pressure, and trying to make MON look like a mug. Apparently he wants Villa to take less then they would like, and is trying to end negotiations. Sorry, laddie. MON's job is to get the best deal, not kiss the fannies of arrogant ponces. Saw this on the Villa website, very interesting. There's obviously a little bit more going on behind the scenes. And Rafa is a twat. "Sunday Mirror: The protracted sale of Aston Villa captain Gareth Barry to Liverpool took another twist last night as the Midlanders insisted their rivals withdraw from the race to sign David Bentley.Villa have earmarked the Blackburn midfielder as a replacement for the Anfield-bound Barry. And they want a clear run at securing Bentley's signature without Liverpool's interest inflating the transfer fee.Liverpool have had two bids for Barry rejected but a deal reported to be in the region of £15million could eventually be brokered if the club make an undertaking not to pursue Bentley, who has made it clear to Rovers that he wants to move on. Although Villa are resigned to losing Barry they will not agree a deal with Liverpool until they have lined up his replacement." |

We all need to focus on next season and move forward instead of going over this same crap (although the club make it very difficult for us) Note - other players who have come back to haunt the VP boo boys = McMahon (Liverpool) Kerr (Boro) Hopkins (Blues) Gage (Sheff Utd) |

| has anyone seen barry say this on tv. the words actually coming out of his mouth. if it is an unexpected outburst im sure mon will deal with him in the right way. GB should be annoyed with benitez and liverpool for under valuing him. we should cut our losses and p/x barry for alonso if all else fails.in mon we trust |

| Villa have made GB the player he is and MON has fine tuned GB into an England regular now he has managed to break into the ENGLAND PRIMA DONNAS SET Villa appear not to be the place to be seen so if he wants to go and hold hands with Steven Gerrard and sit on the bench next to that twat Rafa then let him go but not till we get £20m for him and if we dont get that sort of money would be great to see him see the rest of his contract out as a ball boy |

I have been reading all the commients others have been puting on this blog and while i agree that Barry is trying to force the issue and leave i still believe in some way that MON (God) as to have a good luck in the mirror. Why? well 1 when MON started he said he will geive everyone a chance and look to buy in January. 2 he did and brought in young and a couple others, he also said that we needed more small squad etd 3 season after summer nothing but said we needed players started season with no right back, he said dont worry wait until January i have plans he wanted quality not quanity, yet we got 1 player, who did not play. 4 new summer rumors gossip but yet zero, i dont mind him being on tv i think he talks with a clear understanding and he has a great sence of humor, yet we still have 0. i am worried really worried and this barry incident is as not helped, please martin or villa come out with a statement that will make a true villa fan understand what is going on this transfer gungle, we all understand it is difficult but we just dont see or here any news from the people that matters that is MON and Randy himself. |

Holtsy you muppet. Gareths words don't make sense. He has been saying for weeks that he would discuss his future after his holiday which came after the trinidad game, that wasn't 7 weeks ago. was it? barry went to the notw and probably got paid for it nicely as well. He hasn't handed a transfer request cos he might loose cash. greedy sod Damian we actually agree on something. mon knows he wants to go what more can he do. Tell him who our transfer targets are then trot off to liverpool and tell rafa. Barry you'v lost me at last. You know the score tho until pool meet our asking price you are going nowhere. maybe the claret and blue of the reserves |
