A muppet is what a muppet does: More Jackanory time with Bill Howell

I sense a cat fight coming on because Bill Howell is making things up as he goes along again.

Today, he's posted something titled 'A Statement...', pretty much defending his article in the Birmingham Post that had a title, something along the lines of, 'Gareth Barry can go if price is right, says Martin O'Neill'.

Now, you can see the title of the article here but if you try clicking on it, it appears to have been removed from the website. Silly Bill.

Also, if you want to read Bill Howell ranting and raving like a muppet you should click here.

What he is trying to do is suggest that he was right all along. What winds me up about this is he thinks because he passes this off as him being in the right, that we'll all forget what he actually wrote (now removed) and assume he was in the right from the very beginning.

His opening gambit is this:

You may remember it seemed to rebuke yours truly and the Birmingham Mail for daring to state that Martin O'Neill would allow Gareth Barry to go if the player asked to leave.

What I'd like to point out, to anyone that isn't aware of why Martin O'Neill got so annoyed and publicly humiliated Bill, is that Bill claimed, in the title of his article, that Martin O'Neill said Barry could leave if the price was right.

Nowhere in any of the quotes did Martin O'Neill actually say this. It was Jackanory time from Bill again.

Now, Lisa Smith is turning out to be a fine reporter of all things Aston Villa, but this Bill Howell is just useless. Will somebody please give him a job feeding pigeons.

I think you (damian) and Bill Howell should have it out in the ring

I agree with the last three sentiments.

On a related point, just been watching Euro 2008 Austria v Poland and the half time interview with MON. MON has learnt from his remarks of last week basically saying it's just about impossible to break into the top 4, now stating that it's acjeivable and thats what we he's in it to do. He's quite matter-of-fact about it and you could tell that he's looking beyond Villa with Gareth Barry and looking towards the future.

As I've said before on the forum 'I love MON'...Go on let's all come out and say it...'We love MON'

FWIW, it seems like pretty accurate reporting to me.

I firmly believe that MON has said to someone(probably Barry himself)he will sell if the price is right.
I'd love Barry to stay, but think £18-20 mill will be excellent business.

Whatever, it's hardly ranting and raving, IMO.

Badger

most of his post is exactly what people have been saying on here for the past few weeks

and it's typical bill - read sites, get a feeling for what some fans are thinking - specifically those on the internet - then spin a yarn out of it

what pissed me off is bill planting, that he was right all along - when in fact the title of his article is what got o'neill all flustered .. and bill is trying to defend it - he doesn't even mention the article title - mostly because he knows then he couldn't write the opening part

Why dont they dump him and stick with the babe (sorta babe)!!

The man, (and i use the term loosely), obviously has no idea what he is writing!

Anyone else thing O'Neill is using some superb mind game tactics at the moment?

In the same day, he's rejected a £15m bid from Liverpool, THEN publically said he expects Barry to leave, putting the onus on Liverpool to make an increased bid knowing they'll get him if it's good money.

And be honest, every one of us will be sitting with a smile on our face if we get ~£18m for Gareth Barry.

O'Neill has taken the pressure off himself and put it all on Liverpool and Benitez. Good lad!

Its not just the content of his article that annoys me ,his work just seems to need to be read twice before you actually understand what he's getting at( or im just thick).IMO the whole paper is going down the pan.

If i want Villa news this blog is my first port of call as i know i can get a good article and is not totaly biased.

Keep up the good work or send a C.V to the Mail

when all these stories about gareth leaving came out i was distraught, i didnt want him to leave, but now there is talk of 15-20 million for him i cant wait for him to leave. sign up henry, van der vaart and quaresma and make him wish he had never left us. and b4 everyone says it, i know not all of them would come to us, but with players like ronaldinho being touted by man city why cant us villa fans have a dream aswell

vivavilla! Exactly my point, but you put it so much better...although had had a few glasses by that time! Anyway, MON is playing it 'cool for cats' at the moment and you just got to admire his attitude on this. What nuggets the other day said it was bad MON was doing this here BBC Euro stuff...et real. MON...keep up the good work. I don't always agree with the way MON conducts his transfer timings and he may prove me wrong with the signings he's already done, but I'm proud that we have a no-nonsense manager that's not always shouting his mouth off for the sake of it. The futures bright, let's get behind MON and the team, because they don't call it Barry FC do they!

unless this alleged 18-20 million is added to another 25-30 mil transfer budget what is all the fuss about not acepting 15. If the scousers pull out and wont budge all we end up with is a captain who does not want to play for his club and wants to go glory grabbing

I agree totally, Bill Howell is a total waste of time plus im sure there is a rumour he supports albion??? This Lisa sounds like a good signing for the Mail lets hope we see more!

RE: Villa Signings
I was thinking about the possibility of Henry and Van Der Vaart accompanied by maybe SWP or Joe Cole with the new regime landing at Chelski. Defenders im not too sure who but the 3/4 mentioned would be massive, MON this sneakily state his admiration for Henry on the telly the other night and hopefully Bouma can work some magic and persuade VDV.

P.S. I predicted the Baros, Carew swap a while back. I hope im as accurate this time!
