Dawson and Chimbonda would be good for us, only as squad players though. I don't rate Dawson very highly but hey, he's better than Zat Knight. Chimbonda's versatility would be invaluable to a small squad like ours, and he might even end up starting if we don't find a better right back.

Dawson especially made more errors than Bramble at the back last season. Villa can do so much better. We'd be giving Spurs an advantage by taking them off their hands.

If you look at the squad, and then consider that we will be competing in 4 competitions this season, it is frightening how many new faces we need. 2 or three key injuries and we'll be screwed. Therefore we need some TOP quality players, not cast off's and bench warmers from mid table prem teams.

He doesn't any player who has only been good in the tournament, he wants someone who can play well in league football, rather than international only!

But seriously, I don't think that Crouch would add anything different really to the team and he isn't really any better than Carew (although it's close). I'd go for a different genre of striker (i.e. Michael Owen/Eidur Gudjohnsen).
On the Chimbonda thing, I'm not too keen on him because I've never been too impressed by his attitude. Good player mind and would fill our right-back vacancy.

On Barry, I do not believe MON has to sell. Sir Alex is right. Now, if MON really wants Crouch, fair play. But posing this as "that's the best we can do" I disagree with. Barry should stay at Villa as they are on a crest of a wave, i can understand him wanting champion league football, what player with any ambition wouldnt, but then he also needs to understand, liverpool are a club going sideways, Villa are going forward.
Lets face it, if the European cup was played in it's traditional way, Liverpool wouldn't have won the cup a few seasons ago and wouldn't have had a sniff in the last 10yrs, simply as only the winners of league championship qualified for the cup, this being the case, i don't even think Gerrard would still be at Liverpool.

Barry has been quoted as saying that he was under contract, and that if MON doesn't receive what he deems a good offer for Villa, that he wouldn't sell and that he would carry on doing is best playing for Aston Villa.
