A lesson in Latin, French and Spanish for Martin O'Neill
Written by Damian

Martin O'Neill is, I'm guessing now as I don't want to make a statement of fact about Martin O'Neill, quite frustrated at all this Gareth Barry to Liverpool talk and it's possible he's little more annoyed at Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez.

Towards the end of his press conference yesterday, Martin O'Neill said he was going to figure out how to say no in Latin and French to Rafa, because he doesn't know any other way to say it. Well, we've gone one step further on got the Spanish for him.

Now, it's a long time since I took French or Latin and I've never done Spanish, I should also add that it was entry level French and Latin and my language skills never developed much further than hello, goodbye and a pint please, but I'm willing to give it a go.

No doubt I'll be corrected and I welcome those corrections, but here goes; a definite no in Spanish would be 'un no rotundo', a definite no in French would be a simple 'non' and for Latin, which is probably wrong, a definite now would be 'haud'.

Personal views to one side, I quite respect the way Martin O'Neill is handling this whole episode. Liverpool, much like Chelsea and Manchester United, think they can just bully clubs into selling their players, well things are now different at Aston Villa - we have the Martin O'Neill effect.

You only have to look to players like Steve Sidwell, who had a great season at Reading, to see what can happen to a player when he moves to one of those clubs. If he doesn't fit in, if he's not doing exactly what they thought he could do, he's frozen out.

This Barry saga isn't a rumour any longer though and no doubt it will run and run, much like the Gerrard story a couple of summers ago and the fat Frank one, I think from last year and it's clear to see that Martin O'Neill isn't interested in letting Barry go, but what price would Liverpool have to offer, because every player has one.

If you want Barry to stay at Villa, why don't you tell him, by signing this petition!

what ever happend between rafa , and oneil has happend. we will never know the truth, because they won,t tell it. but now mr oneil keeps going on and on about it at the end of the day it is all down to barry. does he go or stay? and as barry is not from the midlands, his priority is for himself. he has served villa well if he does leave it should be respected. because if your honest its l.pool who look more like winning the prem next year than villa. allso c/l football villa cannot offer him that, so at 27/28 you cannot blame him if he moves on. i know what i would do...

Damo,

There has been nothing about the player of the year awards at Villa.

Barry was players player of the year

Laursen supporters player of the year.

Good choices both I think. Both have had wicked seasons smilies/smiley.gif smilies/smiley.gif smilies/smiley.gif

If he moves to Liverpool it will be because of his friendship with Gerrard.

Barry is a unique purchase because he isn't as gifted as some of Englands other midfielders however with Barry in the side it allows the other more gifted players to play. Sometimes its not possible to play all your best players which is why I believe Barry has a great England future ahead of him.

£17 and I would accept that. Bare in mind thats cheaper than Hargreves and Carrick and he is better than both of those!

The beauty of running a website is that every visitor is unique and every single visitor to this website has a unique IP address. Now, no doubt you'll say it's your brother, son, sister, mother, father or someone else, but you've got the exact same one as Peter.

So, I shoudl probably start this reply to Peter and you know what Peter, we may not agree on the Barry debate, but that's no reason to start playing games like this.

But to answer your question, my player of the season is Ashley Young and I've written it here.

It's the "lawyer" versus the "insurance salesman". I think Benitez has picked on the wrong guy to try and get one over on. I would be pretty p!ssed off if someone tried to put words into my mouth or stir up trouble for Aston Villa. O'Neill is right to take issue on the principle. The Mirror are reporting it as "an astonishing" attack BY O'Neill - idiots.

I think he's handling it all pretty well. Including the Berger issue.

MON's handling this in the best fashion, truly shows the higher class of caliber you'd expect from one of a 'Legendary' managers.
Taking the high road & bringing all the facts to the table have really shown up Benitez and how the modern game, and the dealings within, are mostly manipulated by the press. It most cases it's just so one agent can spout more money from a club, start a bidding war.

I've taken to ignoring the 'Red Tops' and just looking for the facts.

Humbug!

The nature v nurture debate is over.

In this simple experiment a previously upstanding citizen has spent several years living and breathing Liverpool life and has been turned into a thieving, deceitful toss pot.

It's like the UK version of 'Trading Places'.

I for one will not be signing the petition, I think its wrong personally, Gareth Barry will not take the decision to leave lightly and he already knows what it will mean to us fans. There is not point in trying to pull at his heart strings. Id love for him to stay but if he sees going to Liverpool as a step foward and it proves to be the right decision I will be very happy for him. I hope the Intertoto has helped convince him to stay but I just dont know.
