If there was ever a time we needed to go to London and get three points, this Sunday is it. Defeat could, if results go against us, see us finishing in eight place with no European football, of any description, for next season.
We've come close this season against Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea but it's yet to happen under Martin O'Neill. Yet to happen since 2004 I think.
Still, the beauty of not winning in London for so long is that it's got to happen eventually and this Sunday is as good an opportunity as we're ever likely to get.
West Ham are going to finish either where they are now, in 10th, or drop one place to 11th. There is every chance some of their players will already be thinking about the summer break.
While I have approached this prediction with a little negativity above we should also look at the potential of what could happen. If Everton lose at home and we win, we'll finish in fifth place and in the UEFA cup for next season.
Now, leaving it to the last game of the season isn't exactly how I would have liked it to happen but as long as we win there is nothing else we can ask of the players and Martin O'Neill on Sunday.
Which is why I'm going to predict a win, if only because they owe us it and we deserve it after the performance last weekend.
I'm not knocking West Ham, as I have a feeling they'll come back much stronger next season, but they don't have anything to play for and that really isn't a good motivator, but no doubt now I've written it, we'll see West Ham battle for everything for 95 minutes on Sunday.
It's also worth noting that it will be the last game for Olof Mellberg on Sunday and quite possibly Gareth Barry, so a nice send off for Mellberg probably and quite possibly a few people singing for Barry to stay and maybe a banner or two.
Still, three points is all that matters as it will carry me through the long summer with a little hope for next season.
