O'Neill after big Tom and Lennon from Spurs?
Written by Damian

I've got to hold my hands up first. I was a fan of Martin Jol and thought it a big mistake when Spurs sacked him.

I guess with a trophy in the cabinet at the end of the season though, not many Spurs fans can really be that disappointed and in Juande Ramos, it looks like they've picked up the finished article.

Jol was still learning the trade and I think he suffered from that in the short term, but I still think he'll go on to do well in management.

All that to one side for a moment, the upside of this is Ramos will want to be bringing in his own players and because of this some from Spurs are going to have to leave.

Two of those players, according to the Epping Forest Guardian are Aaron Lennon and Tom Huddlestone.

I'm a big fan of these players and they would certainly add depth and quality to the squad. I'm sure Lennon would be considered a strong addition to the starting eleven and I'd suspect big Tom to be in the 16 every week, even if he would face some competition.

It's worth noting that these are just rumours also and while Ramos is going to want to bring in his own players and both of these fit with the Martin O'Neill 'buy British policy' it doesn't mean either will want to come or are even on the radar of Aston Villa, but Lennon would be nice.

Huddlestone certainly looks like a better player now he's improved his fitness. Although i'd prefer Jermaine Jenas. He has become a completely different player under Ramos' guidance and with their fitness regime and looks a better prospect than Huddlestone.

Lennon would be a good player to fight it out with Routledge for the right-wing spot. His crossing and his overall fitness could do with some tweaking as he can usually be spotted on the recovery table every month or so. But these two players would definitely bring competition for places, some depth to the midfield and of course, some quality.

I want us to go for either Bentley, Milner, or Lennon to fill the right side, unless MON knows of another Ashley Young smilies/cheesy.gif

Am a spurs fan here and it is nice to see some fans still like lennon, most spurs fans seem to have turned on him and think he should go which is probably why this rumour is about, personally i think he is quality and still young so will no doubt go from strength to strength, so i dont think he will be joining villa, although a 3 pronged english attack of lennon young and abonglahor sounds pretty lethal! so i hope it is untrue!!. Also i dont see tommy leaving us just yet, so hopefully just rumours!! fair play to oneil and villa though good to see some teams still buy british!

neither player will leave. if they did though id be seriously p**sed off to lose tom huddlestone. i think he is one of the most natural passers of the ball since beckham. he makes 40 and 50 yard passes and puts the ball on the money time and again....bear in mind he is only 20! huddlestone is a star rising and spurs should never let him leave

its a well known fact that ramos said huddlestone was fat and dropped him, so that wont be a big surprise if he left

as for lennon i think there are better players in milner and bentley but if it was reasonable like 3-4 million it would be a good bit of business

plus we want robbo too, how about £15 million for the lot?

I also think that those 2 would be very welcome at VP but would also love to see Jenas added to that list, he's young, english, on the verge of the national team and would add that bit of creativity from midfield we seem to lack.

Just wanted to chuck this in this section as not sure if anyone reads previous posts, but i met a guy today that worked for the Acorn kids charity and he confirmed that "Acorns" is definately going to be on the front of the new aston villa shirt next season, they of course dont have to pay for this as it is part of the "help the community" initiative set up by randy lerner. They just get free exposure in the prem all season long, not bad at all smilies/smiley.gif

Tom Huddelstone is class great control of the ball and good passer can break a defence with a pass

Lennon iv been trying to see as much as i can of him the last couple of months cause i thought he was brilliant but everytime i watch him nine times out of ten he is giving the ball away or makeing wild silly school boy passes i think he is to fast for the ball by that i mean he cant keep it under control because of how fast he is going

Still i reakon he would be worth a bid but nothing to big and i do think ramos will get rid off him because of his form this season

Lennon and Young would be unbelievable! Huddlestone as well would be a great acquisition! Just a keeper and 2 right backs and a left Back then!

Not a fan of Lennon. Whats the point in being able to beat your man if you can't put a final ball in to the box. He wastes much more than he creates!... only a squad player in my book.

Much more keen on big Tom. He's not affraid to have a crack at goal from the middle, and has scored some great goals. Always feel we're abit scared to try our luck from outside the box (except Petrov apparently!). He can defend, great in the air in the middle of the field, and is actually a very good technical player. His range of passing is very good. Underated if you ask me... get the lad in.

Yeah, this story was whipped up at the end of the transfer window in January...never came to fruition, so i guess some hack has just churned it back up again. It's believable so he'll get his wedge for lazy journalism and we lap it up. Everyone's happy...for now!

Those two and Nelson would give us such a different look. Heaps of pace. The back four would have to be solid though, Lennon , Ash and Gab do tend to give it away sometimes....

Tom Fiftystone? No thanks. He's less mobile than Davies is right now.

So would Acorns be on the front of the shirt only ... and no proper sponsor? E.g. Sony or 32red.com ???

AVFC_Pete said:

i can see the merits of acorns-good PR stunt for the club, will give us some good media coverage

more importantly though, and the reason i fee its being done is that if we get UEFA, or even better champions league, imagine how much more we can get from a sponsor-well be in a much stronger position to negotiate

There's not a hope of THudd or Lennon joining Villa. Both are regular starters for Spurs and will not leave unless Ramos allows it. They have played most games so he obviously rates them. You can have any player from the following list for a couple of million! Robinson, Cerny, Alnwick, Stalteri, Lee, Assou-Ekotto, Gardner, Rocha, Tainio.

villa are hoping to get loads of players so I think lennon and huddlestone would go perfectly in our squad. They will be great but, I never really liked Huddlestone.
p.s. if anybody is reading this can they send in a message to the blog to tell us how much transfer money villa have got

Barry and Mellberg can go for my money, if 12 mill is offered for Barry then snatch there hands off!!! I respect both players and have no issue with their football, but we have freshend things up and those 2 are still a reminder of the stagnent years we have endured due to poor management and ownership.

Would love both. Lennon is quality but we all know his crossing needs work. At the start of the year I was thinking the same about Young, and was wondering why he was taking the corners but those problems have long been resolved. Young and Lennon on the wings would be magic but I suspect he will cost a few bob if the rumour turns out to be true.
