I heard on the radio that knight and carson at fault for the goal again. knight let chopra get away from him and carson was slow out of goal and subsequently got lobbed, is it groundhog day?!?! (correct me if im wrong on any of that just going on 5 lives reporting) |

carson at fault yes - only because he never came for it .. he hesitated for a split second which was all chopra needed in teh 22nd he came out and drops the ball and again in the 39th he comes out and misses a corner the one time you want him to come out - for their goal and he bottles it |

utterly embarrassing. but it doesnt surprise me. this bunch of players is pretty average and have been over achieving. oneil has let us down badly. the players he has brought in our abysmal with the exception of young. some might say also carew, but a oneil didnt even plan on signing him - was just offered him in the baros deal and b he only has 9 goals 3 of which came in one game against a joke outfit. what has oneil really done for us in these 2 years. last year bottom half - this year prob 8th/9th. no cup runs at all. the smallest quad in the prem with no back up and pretty weak overall and spent lerners money horrifically. this summer is his last chance - make the signings and get it right or its time for a chnage. he will be in his 3rd season. forget the 5 year plan - by the 3rd season a manager at a club like villa has to delivering something!!! at any other club oneil would be near the sack!!! |

So what's gone wrong..? So much early year promise...Manager and Player of the Month Awards. Good results. Good football. But now we're left with a disastrous run into the end of the season. Is it down to tired players? Lack of quality? A small squad? No Bottle? Bad management? I'm so frustrated!! For me one thing is certain Martin O'Neill faces the biggest summer of his managerial career. If quality signings are not made (and we can all see we need first team players not back ups) then the game may be up on my fellow Irish man. Cant we have a manager like ramos who knows how to play entertaining football and who wants to buy and can attract great players!we were all applauding mon as a great manager but what has he done really?won trophies at celtic where any manager (even gordon strachan) could manage them and make them look good,and leicester,who were a mediocre team and he only got them finishing mid table and the only decent thing he did with them was win 2 coca cola cups and even that suprised alot of people!all mon is,is a great man motivator and is great managing teams who arent that great and he makes them slightly better but will he get us in to the top four?i think not!will he buy the better players we need to get in to europe?probably not! |

MON is totally to blame here. It was like watching Wimbeldon. Too many of our players simply not good enough technically. Both Full backs can barely run with the ball without falling over and as for our CM its a total joke. Im sick in the face of saying it that Barry is lost in there. By the way none of our players are English squad quality. I include Young in that comment as well. We have the most one trick winger in England. He never beats his man and always goes on the outside. Every FB in the country has his number now. And how the hell can he continue with Carson in goal.He was brutal again today. Some people were getting too excited about Europe. Personally I'd rather watch entertaining games (like the 4-4s) win some 4-2, lose some 3-2 and finish 9th then playing boring root one football (like Everton) which can get you 6th if you dont bottle it when it really matters, but when you do it gets you 10th. It's funny because I went to more games under DOL (dont get me wrong his football became spineless/gutless but I reckon if Lerner came in after DOL finished 6th, we would've finised in a UEFA place regularly). MON is charismatic but his football aint great and I cant be ar$ed anymore paying £35 (or in fact anything more than £15) to watch us hoof it into the box. I doubt anyone agrees with me, but then not many Villa fans do. |

When I was slating MON earlier in the season, even last september after the transfers this is exactly why I was and I got called a bluenose and not a proper supporter because I didn't swallow all the club's rhetoric and propaganda I just saw the cold hard facts, I am just your average joe footy fan and love Aston Villa but if I saw this coming from last year then why didn't MON and all of the highly paid professionals. I'm almost glad (almost) that we lost as maybe now people will see the club for what it is, a nice safe investment for an american billionaire who wil inject just enought cash to stay in the premiership and the black but no more as to achieve, I am thinking maybe ELLIS sold us out to an american as a cash cow that will mow proceed to milk us until dry of worth/ambition and entertainment. |

Defoe could have been bought(God knows we need him) but money seems to be the blocker again at Villa. Just got back from the game and it was absolutely awful! No invention, no ideas at all! What was the point of bringing on Osbourne? Didn't understand it at all. Salifou is gagging for a game and I'm sure Petrov is as well, one of them should have come on. A lot of work has to be done over the summer because we can't have the usual 'smallest squad in the league' rubbish again and again or we'll fall behind. Man Utd to come next, can't wait!  |

I had a bad feeling this was going to happen and it has. Our squad size has come back to bite us. MON i belive wants to sign the best players but they wont come as we are not in europe. He has let players go that are moaning about lack of first team football - cahill,davis, moore (all young upstarts in my opion) and bought people in who are cheap but will sit on the bench and work hard and be quiet- Knight, harewood,routledge. The problem is our team is based upon aggy and young and they have run out of ideas and become tired. None of the rest of the players are stepping up to the plate and taking the pressure off these guys. We need to be patient and wait till the summer, last one was the first summer O'neil had and as such didnt have the league position to sell the club to players. However the only player i dislike is Knight, he a liability. If you watch 95% of our goals since davies got injured they are all due to knights mistakes. Lastly we were always struggling to get into europe although it would be a bonus, pompey have a good side as do liverpool and everton. |

It will be a real shame if the season fizzles out after so much good work. However, despite the debacle today I think it's pretty obvious that we're moving forward. The over achievement of this squad up until now has just raised expectations a wee bit too high .............for this season. To retain any sense of credibility with the fans the manager and board must be united in the opinion that this summer is time for the "big push". We have simply come as far as we can with a squad that size and due to the amount of money washing around the Premiership the competition will be geeting hotter every year. It's "sh*t or bust" time. MON is most definitely in a better position to sell the club to prospective signings this summer as the ground is full and the efforts of the players are not going unnoticed by the likes of Capello. However this season ends i think we can all look forward to the brighter future that we were promised provided the necessary steps are taken - there's certainly no need to go calling for MON to be sacked or likening Randy L to Deadly Doug....yet. |

I dont think its right to be starting to say sack o'neill, ive supported villa all my life and when we lose like we did today and put in such a s**t performance i get angry (my girlfriend can vouch for me on that one) but the way i see it MON has injected new life into the club, going forward we are good, scoring goals at will at the start of the season, although yes now they seem to be harder to come by. I read something in the paper today that said villa park has seen the 3rd most amount of goals this season, behind anfield and old trafford (i think), that is testament to the way MON has got us playing. However where we have been let down is by 2 of his signings, in carson and knight. I think i speak for 99% of villa fans when i say carson is shocking and is no where near premiership quality at this stage of his career let alone international quality, and in knight we have have the reincarnation of titus bramble. unfortunately these are 2 areas of the pitch where mistakes are punished. However i think all-in-all MON has done a great job and the issues addressed above thankfully can be put right in the summer. on september 1st feel free to start the bashing but until then lets see how he does in only his second summer at the club. he will spend the money. after todays performance he has no choice but too. hope that makes sense, im tired. |

It wasnt untill the last seven games last season when we went on a run which saw us pick up 15 points. If this happens again we will have 64 points this season which would normally garentee 4th,5th,6th in the league which would be our highest points total since 92-93 the first prem season wouldnt be bad for a net spend of around 20mil. I would agree 100% with anybody that said today's result and ergo performance was a disappointment, but to question the managers position seems to be excessive. I still fully believe MON can bring us European Football. This season Europe appears to have slipped through our grasp, which rightly indicated can be attributable to MON's transfer policy, or his faith in the current squad. However i think he is a man who learns from his mistakes and can take this club to the level it belongs. One thing I'm certain of is I don't want our club to end up like Newcastle, where not winning the league is failure so the the manager is out. I think we owe MON thanks for helping bring stability and hunger to the team once again, but for someone who's had success in lower leagues (which I include the SPL in) he just doesn't have what it takes to cut it in the top six in the Premier League and he doesn't have it in him to buy top class players. For all the good he has done, he has made just a few errors but I'm sorry to say they're all fatal (mainly the selling of too many players which has left the squad threadbare and poor inbound purchases). It was nagging at the back of my head before the game that it might happen but i didn't think it would. WHAT A JOKE! There is a whole world of talent out there, players like modric, Bentley, Bilyaletdinov, if blackburn can get santa cruz why cant we be treated to some players like that... for a change. MON is the best man manager in the league, but the worst man finder. Nobody could get more out of these players as they are so average and he has to carry the can for that as he bought the worst ones! I'd seriously consider a director of football as he doesn't have the transfer market knowledge neccesary to improve us. |

It was dire, very dire but, this happens from time to time. I think we are better off than the last few years under o'Leary etc. What is bothering me now is the players we're being linked with. Jimmy Bullard for 3M anyone? Oh and a 17 year old who has just broke into Crystal Palaces first team. I really think the club ought to make a statement on how much is going to be invested next season for players, either we got money or we ain't. |
