Ten new players, you must be having a laugh. Here is what will happen: 1. MON will promise significant signings 2. We'll be linked with everyone 3. The players we want we won't get for one of two reasons; a) MON won't pay the money despite the fact the club will claim it's provided 'significant' funds (which I'm not convinced about) or b) We won't attract the players we want because we can't offer European football (no way we'll catch Everton now) 4. We'll buy some Championship players that don't quite cut it in the Permier League 5. By the start of the season we'll have sold 7 players but probably only buy 4 or 5 at the most - MON to provide excuses 6. Start season well but struggle near the end due to squad size Get MON some bloody help, he can spot talent but needs someone business like to bring the deals to the table. Also, Petrov back to the tin pot league, Moore to Baggies, Knight out for no other reason than he's s**te, Carson back to Liverpool ocz he's not worth a penny over £4.5 million. Owen and Milner in, Bosingwa in, Jaska in for Carson, plus another defender, attacking midfielder and winger (if we're not going to play Routlage). I wish!! |

I think the concern over Gabby is premature. Even though he is not scoring he contributes a fair amount and has the ability to terrify defenders. I am quietly confident that next season will really see the making of him. As for others, I don't see why Maloney would leave, as his only vocal concern was that he was not playing, and that has changed in recent weeks. I agree that Petrov will likely move and Knight will drop back to cover. I think we will sign Carson, and perhaps two more keepers to keep him on his toes. He doesn't look worth the exorbitant money, but then neither has Reo Coker and I can see MON sticking with him too. This is the largest concern with me too, and you pointed it out. An attacking midfielder in the Elano/Sneijder role would transform us as a side. I believe there are plenty of players here already with the ability to capitalise on chances, we are already a decent attacking side, but in order to add range to the threat we need someone coming through the middle. Milner would be a great signing for the wing, and I would love for MON to splash out on a player in the mould of those I mentioned - all the sides we are competing with have them if you look at Elano/Muntari even bloody Jermaine Jenas seems to have had a decent season. Surely MON recognises that excuses will not do, as we have come short of our ambitions this year. Next year is the crunch. Fingers crossed. |

I disagree that the chances have been created for Gabby - i cant think of any glaring misses bar last saturday and for his speed you would have to question why does he not have more one-on-ones with keepers - most of his goals are headers!!! I think that this is villa's main problem - we dont pass it enough and have no creativity or goals from central midfield. I am not saying Gabby is blameless and perhaps could do with a rest but I think that of the current squad both him and Young are out future and the only two players that would be coveted by the big four. With regard to the amount of signings - I agree with you Damian - 10 makes sense. However, the dealings of MoN since his arrival leave me with little confidence of this happening. An unwillingness to change the team means that he cant keep a large squad happy - the only way to break into the first 11 appears to be forced - injuries or suspensions... I think that getting into europe could have a big bearing on the quality of signings. Unfortunately, due to numerous reasons - i fear we will not qualify. And as MoN says himself - this season would then have to be seen as a dissapointment. Progress is relative, if others are progressing faster - then we are going nowhere!! |

| Gabby's not a kid yeah he's young but he's still an adult and he's being paid to do a job he should be doing better in terms of goals, he does need a break but mon's problem is if he drops him and sticks harewood up front all the passing would suddenly become long balls for Marlon and carew to hold up or run on too. That's why we need a midfielder that can break a defence with a pass or go on a mazy run and slot one in the corner because Barry or coker can't do that. |

2 right backs - agree 1 left back cover - agree (with O'Halloran out for a long time, a short contract is best) 1 right winger - Maloney is the attacking midfielder you're talking about 2 strikers - one first-team, the other reserve quality (unless Delfouneso proves himself) 1 Goalkeeper - Whether that be Carson or someone else, this is a requirement 2 centre backs - again, a first team centreback to partner Laursen (on a shortterm contract thanks to Davies injury) and a young but promising centre back. Once you spot the players you want, it's not rocket science to get the bid in, sort out the transfer money and sort out contract conditions. We're rich, i think we can afford a few 50k a week players. We've probably got around 300k free for wages, yet MON is scared of filling it. |

Gabby needs to be put under more pressure. Harewood has been doing that lately but even when he comes on, Gabby stays on the pitch. I think it's just a numbers thing. I agree about an attacking midfielder. I'd like to see Reo-Coker given that role, with Barry staying deep. Reo-Coker has pace and aggression and I always think he's at his best when driving forward. He could have 8 games to prove himself. 10 players is probably about right, but I reckon that 5 of those might be very inexperienced - either promoted from the youth team or purchased from other team's youth academies or the Championship. I'd love Bosingwa to come, but I don't see him giving up Champions League football to play for us - he's bound to get a better offer. |

To be fair to Agbonlahor and the comparison to Rooney's goal return, Rooney actually didn't start bagging tons of goals till his 2nd season at Man Utd. He scored : 9 goals in 34 matches in his last season at Everton 11 goals in 29 matches in his first season at Man Utd It wasn't until his 4th prem season that he started bagging 14 goals in the premiership so i think this is a totally unfair weight being put on Gabby. He does have potential but let's not weigh him down with it. He's not the same player as rooney, he's a different sort altogether. In my opinion, i think in the future he has more goals in him than the pie eater. |

We are in the top most professional league in the country and I would expect the people playing in it and getting paid vast wages to reflect that, if I wanted to watch someone learn his trade I'll go to my local college and watch the DHS lads laying bricks |

You're a tool taglor. World class players don't come cheap, it's rare that a player will turn up and be able to compete and be the finished article without having played several years in their chosen league. Show me an example of one player who would be within our financial reach, who would want to come to villa, same age and any better than gabby? Gabby needs to score more, he needs to develop but the only way you develop younger players is by playing them. |

Not one to complain at random, I believe that we are getting a little carried away with the bad week we have had. Agree with all who say that we need signings and also that at times we need to change our tatics during games, however, for what MON has inherited he has done very well indeed. My belief is that he has not got the money we were led to believe and is doing all he can with a squad that should really be 13/14th. Keep the Faith......Good times are not so far away. |

villadaz, I completely agree with the fact that we don't have the cash we were led to believe we had. In fact, I think the reason MON was bought in was to help the club pay for its players through results - finishing 7th will net us more money than our 16th or so last year, and that money will be reinvested in the club for players. Where Randy has put his hand in his pocket is on facilities (Bodymoor) and we all know investing in infrastructure is a safer business bet. However, we can't get in the top six without buying some players of the £7-£10 million a piece mark (and several of them), and I fear that without this we are destined for top 10 and nothing more from the current regieme. The reason I honestly believe this is becuase the owners wouldn't be happy with MON's lack of deals over the transfer windows he's now had if he did in fact have a big wad of cash to spend. If the money's there and MON's not smart (or brave) enough to spend it then they would have bought someone else in by now to help him with the transfer dealings. The fact they haven't proves to me that MON gets about £15 million tops per transfer window to play with, and that's not enough for top 6. |

be careful getting hung up on numbers. many fell into that trap last summer IMO. for example; why did anyone feel that hendrie and the djemba twins (who played 2 games between them all season) needed replacing with two "quality" signings?? same goes for sorenson, berger and to a lesser extent moore. those players are part of natural turnover and academy players should be looking to fill their boots. perhaps not moore, but i rate his contribution so low this year it's hard to feel he needs replacing!! agreed, we've major needs elsewhere on the pitch. let's focus on that. don't make stupid judgments on the manager about whether he replaces a player who has done exactly nothing this season, despite our notoriously small squad. |

If MON does'nt deliever the big time plyers that will cost big money this summer then you can forget about Europe for the next few years again. As for Wes Browne we already have 2 full backs that can't cross a ball to save their lives so why would we want another. |

I belive MON will have to spend around 30 mil this summer. However the numbers you want i cant see. Also MON has a lot of faith that Petrov will come good. Out-Sorensen,Melberg,Berger,Moore. In-Gk-Guzan/Carson? RB-? CB-? RW-Milner? ST-? SQUAD- Carson/Guzan? Taylor Youth Player? RB? Davies Laursen Bouma ____Knight CB? O Halloran Milner? Reo Coker Barry Young Routledge Osbourne Gardener Maloney Petrov Salifou Carew Agbonlahor Harewood ST? Gardener will fill in at right back if 1st choice is injured, as will Barry at left back so this is my prediction 5 players in and about 30 mil spent. |

Damian is almost right saying 10 in. I say 15 in (including promotions from Youth squad). We have a number of players who will never cut the mustard in the top 6. They will/are being culled, replacements of the desired quality may or may not have been available. In I see; 2 'keepers, 2 CB, 2 RB, 2 LB, 3 CM, 2 R/LM, 2 CF. Out; Carson, Sorenson, Mellberg, Moore. Berger (and I hope not Maloney). And how could MoN even dream of selling GB, who might be worth more with a price sticker on his head this summer (£12-15mn?) than on the pitch for us next season. Of those in I would expect half of them to go more or less straight into the first team, the others to play reserves/Carling Cup/"lesser" Prem games. The above gives us a net gain of 10 players. Look at where most of our goals have come from; defenders and strikers. Much as we love GB and NRC they are not going to give us goals or carve open defences like the top 6's. Think of our side as a sandwich without any filling, we really need some German sausage, French mustard, Rosbif (with horseradish), a nice strong Smoked Austrian cheese, some Salami, and juicy Koblasa (not Baros please). |
Paul181
said:
| Can i start by saying that andy5759s comments about the sandwhich are spot on lol. a fair few signings are needed, but in my opinion MONs biggest mistake as villa manager to date was letting Cahill go. He would be ideal replacement for Davies. I think that defensively Cahill is actually a better defender than Davies, but whats done is done. We definitely need a right winger (Milner hopefully for cheap if Newcastle get relegated). Definitely need a creative midfielder who scores goals. I think one right back would suffice as we have decent cover in terms of Gardner. We could also do with a consistent striker. Then a few more players are needed to bulk up the squad and create competition for places. |

Our strikers don't score enough goals so we need a 20 goal a season striker and definitely an CAM! Randy is worth loads and you have to speculate to accumulate! Martin is not very good in the transfer window he is drowning somebody give him a life ring thingy! Its simple, i want, lol. 1.Kenwyn Jones. (adebayor the 2nd, enough saiA) 2.Michael Owen. (if you watch him he is making the correct run's and he would read the flick on's big John or another player who's good in the air would supply(see above) 3.Deco. (i know i'm dreaming but he would do the job) 4.Riise. (admitidly not as efective as he was, but with a new challenge, opions at left back and midfield, and would'nt you love to hear the kop shout SHOOT!) 5.Wes Brown. (steady, experienced, versatile) 6.Gary Neville. (abit cheeky, but real quality, for a short time) 7.Paul Scholes. (similar reason to above) 8.Given/Harper. (tried and tested) 9.Ben Foster. (similar deal to Carson, but with a result) 10.Quaresma. (another dream but what great balance he would bring) just my wish list, cover all over the pitch. Also in my opinion quality, experience and youth in abundance. Add these players to what we already have and champions league hear we come) |

If Mattie Taylor or Ricardo Quaresma can't somehow be bought, and there's failure to acquire the services of James Milner... I say just get a fast & proven striker and stick Gabby back on the Wing, where he's amazing! Villa would have the best winger tandem on the Earth! Jermaine Defoe would've been ideal in every way. (I can't understand why Portsmouth was not mentioned as a threat to finish higher than Villa.) Recall Moore for depth... (MON can after 2-3 months, before the loan becomes permanent.) Sign two true 'EPL top 6' starter quality defensemen (won't be easy...) Maybe Rozehnal from Newcastle? Also add another one or two young'ins for depth. As far as center midfield goes, Barry's gotta be in the 11 as much as possible as far as I'm concerned. He's the heart of Villa. Perhaps if an attacker is needed, go for Clint Dempsey of Fulham for a nominal fee. He may just be a real asset. I'm not sure, but aforementioned Mattie Taylor is probably a center mid and he could be a fine addition if somehow possible. How 'bout Stephen Pienaar just as a valuable commodity, or sucking Steve Sidwell from the Blues! Owen's showing now that he's still got fine quality. However, he just doesn't stay healthy, and therefor is sadly but truly just too expensive for the risk. Newcastle won't be relegated and Owen is not Villa's man. On the topic of ownership and the possible money issue... Owner Randy Lerner has tons of cash. He pours millions and millions and millions into his Cleveland Browns NFL team. I'd know, I live 40 minutes from there. However, the Browns are HEAVILY supported by a rabbidly loyal fanbase who squirts rediculous sums of money for their tickets. If there's not an enormous following for Villa, and their attendence is quite a bit lower than the top clubs, I can see the wise-spending Lerner being frugal. I tend to believe the issue is more Mr. O'Neill and his tendency to be frugal and staunchly dedicated to acquiring only quality. |

Letting Cahill go was a stupid decision he is a great player, mellberg is off to so we need cover. even our youngsters have got bad injuries. Curtis will be a very good defender look at the improvements he has made since his debut. I would love to see Milner back with us but he is Newcastle's best player. I think we can attract players of a good quality but its all about the money! Will we pay over the rate wages im talking Boswinga will wat £50k and united want him.
