Rotherham keeper Mark Oxley on trial at Aston Villa
Written by Damian
Monday, 17 March 2008

It's only a trial but according to the papers he was attracting interest from the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Everton, so it's nice that we have first look to see what he has to offer.

You'd quite fancy that the appeal of Aston Villa is the academy and reserve system doing so well and the clear interest Martin O'Neill has in them.

He's not the tallest at 5' 11" but he's still got a few years growing in him and according to the Sunday Mirror, he's brilliant.

He's currently at Rotherham United but hasn't made an appearance and with no Wiki page for him yet and only limited information on the Rotherham United website, if you know anything about him you can leave it below.

Talking above about the academy system, don't forget that this Wednesday is the second leg of the FA Youth Cup at Villa Park against Chelsea. Admission is free, although they've limited the attendance to 14,000 and you don't need a ticket to get into the Holte Pub.

The tie is all square at 1-1 after the first leg so if you get the chance to go, jump at it as I've got a feeling the atmosphere on Wednesday night is going to be quite impressive for an academy game.

I can't make the game as I live half way round the world, but I hope they do well.

This keeper could be promising, especially since he's attracting interest from big clubs. However time will tell.

BTW, his name is Nathan Delfouneso.

No doubt we will have a look at him then send him back and in a couple of years he will be chelsea number 1 and once again we would have missed out a star im sorry i just dont have no faith in martin o neill when it comes to signing players

If we martin can get him for the price of a cup of tea then he probley would sign him but if its to be over 5million i doubt martin will sign him as speanding big money is something martin seems to hate to do

I like many other Villa fans was disappointed with the result on Saturday. To put it in perspective we that was our 2nd defeat in 18 games...

Yes we have had a lot of draws and there should have been a game where we wrapped up all three points but that are football and that is why this year’s premiership is as exciting as it has ever been. Expectations are now high, and MON is the man who I am sure feels what the villa fans do...Every coach has made a cock up when it comes to signings you only have to look at the to two in the country to see....Arsenal (Richard Wright, Jeffers,) Man Utd (Kleberson, Veron, Djemba Djemba.)

In MON we have a potential Fegie and Wenger...The man is 56 years of age and do you really think he has the time to sit around and let another transfer window elude him. I don’t think so...He obviously has a policy and I am sure we will start paying the wages we need to in order to secure the top players. January is a difficult month delve into the transfer market and yes I understand the arguments for signing Defoe and Diarra

The fact is I am sure there are players that were identified, but we were unable to sign then in January. MON plays his cards close to his chest and it is only natural that as VILLA fans we want to build on the position that we have got ourselves into this season. I am not going to mention the 5 YEAR plan so to avoid further moans, but 'time is of the essence.’ WE could argue blue in the face that MON should have signed him or should have got that player or should have paid this much. This is Football and this is what the game is about...You win you loose you draw (but the passion is such that our emotions sometimes get the better of us). We recognise what we need to do and I am sure Martin does. This is the summer where if MON does nothing or very little then we has a right as fans to questions what the hell is going on. Do you think MON will let it get to that stage, I don’t think so...This is a man that is from the Clough era...football has changed so much from that time but we have no choice but to believe.

We should be proud of what e have achieved and yes the football over the past two games has been shocking. But when you look at other results such as Everton and Fulham, Arsenal and Middlesbrough it should put things into perspective. We lost to Fulham and draw with Boro. Yet they have pulled of a similar result against teams which are above us in the league.

Question is do we start questioning their various managers tactics or simply do we put it down to the game that is Football...Short squads, lack of quality, not the right tactics, the list is endless, we can go on forever....Moral of the story if you are claret and blue and it runs through your blood as it does through mine then get behind the boys be prepared for ups and downs over the next 8 games and lets look forward to the summer. All in all we have not done badly this season.

As much as the defeat on Saturday hurt, I am sure you will agree that victory against Sunderland on Saturday will taste that little more SWEETER...The future is bright the future is CLARET AND BLUE...

we have rules, as you can see here:
http://www.avfcblog.com/content/view/1859/122/

i'm referring of course to the use of capital letters. seeing as you probably didn't see them this will pass but please dont do it in future

as for not going to games; you'd be surprised, but as you know me so well we'll just leave you to your thoughts

as for opinions, i've said on countless occasions i believe martin o'neill to be the right man for the job and that i believe next season or the one after that one we'll have european football

if it doesn't happen this season i'll be disappointed because we were so close but there are still quite a few point to play for so i'm not writing it off - are you?

however, regardless of opinions and what you think you know lets look at the facts. you've come on here calling everyone muppets but let me ask you one thing; why is it you can only moan if you have a season ticket?

i'll answer the question for you; it doesn't. so if there is a muppet it here, i'm afraid warwickvilla, it's probably you

even if we dont qualify for europe, then there are alot of positives to take from this season. an those that knock mon sayin he has bought mediocre players - then look at it this way - those mediocre players helped us push for europe. with a better squad who the F**k is to say we cant do better? this summer wil signal the clubs intent.

Warwick Villa!
I didn't realise you need a season ticket to have an oppinion on Villa???
What about deciding all 1300 people on this website don't go to the games????
Can we all make those kind of Judgements or do we have to be "special super fans" like you???
I think a few of us will be in agreement with you about there being a muppet on here.

I think Milly is MON in disguise, either that or another Villa representative. I am touched by the propoganda though.

Warwick Villa needs a cold shower and a mouthful of soap.

If it reposts, apologies, I'm pirating some internet from the neighbours...

Final bash, curse the net... Anyone else struggling to post?

damian sorry for the large letters.at least my post woke a few of you up my point was how many times do people post with the starting comment,i didn't go to the game but, then go on to tell everyone how crap we played, gabby was tired, carsons rubbish,i don't mind anyone posting an view but i cant see the point in just slagging villa off the players off the manager off,yes its frustrating with the lack of new players, but until mon starts posting on here to tell us why players didn't come in january i will believe what he said,i tried to get new blood in but it wasn't possible,i think 6th or 7th will be a miracle if you think of how bad we had been for 3 years, and damian my point about you not going to games was you start some of your posts i wasn't at the game,i didn't mean you don't ever go to games.i suppose my main point was not very well put,but all i meant was get behind the lads the club the manager, rather than just come on here and be soooooooo negative, damian pop down the aston sports and social before the chelsea game on wednesday i will buy you a pint then i will know you

nice come back but martin o'neill will never say more than what he has already said on transfers or something along the lines of 'we tried, we really tried up until the last minute'

but what it comes down to is he didn't do enough because they were not here and the defoe thing came down to paying his wages. the manager simply couldn't agree to it. if we're playing in europe he'll have to ... and sometimes to get that player who is going to get europe you've got to speculate

he could also have had a right back if he offered a little bit more .. it was as good as a done deal in january and in the summer just gone.

its not exactly his money is it?

but, like i've said loads of times before - he's got my support despite his transfer dealings, as long as we continue to move in the right direction - which we are doing
