It's bye bye Europe after that performance. Not enough quality in midfield and we need to get real about a 20 goal a season front man. Otherwise it's a 6th-10th placing for the next few years. Carson - I not so sure... Out with the cheque book Randy!  |

Damian, Defoe is a great finisher, and i would say pay him whatever, the mans a 20goal a season scorer and if we want to be up there and challenging sometimes you have to pay for quality. |

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels like that about Gabby and I think that is apart of the reason why he keeps getting moved on to the wings. It's pretty annoying that when our players got the England call up that all the talk was about Gabby (skysports as my refence). Young is a lot more consistant and generally had a better season. |

I have to say I doubt Carson more every time I see him. He always seems to fumble when IMO, he should catch easily. Totally agree about the midfield though, definitely a weak area, which I expect to be sorted in the summer. |

We were tactically outdone, quite simply. Poor display from the rusty Mellberg. We lack the strength in depth MON is always moaning on about. Midfield, if we lose NRC or Barry, we have no really decent midfielders. Osbourne is alright, but that's it. He can't produce anything special. Gardner gives 150% but lacks skill. So we're stuck with 4 defensive midfielders, a striker-cum-winger, and an attacking midfielder lad from Scotland. Not much going on for us in the midfield department. Strikers we're okay, but we don't have too many match-winners. In order for us to win the games, the whole team has to be putting in the 100% effort. Whereas teams out there have at least one player who can make a difference when the rest are doing poorly. (Anelka, Rooney, Yakubu, R. Keane, Defoe etc.) MON needs to start listening to his own words, we lack strength in depth. So stop selling players, even if they want to go, give them a bigger contract. it's not like we're lacking money, is it? |

today just proved what we all know. we dont have a big enough squad to cope. we need another striker that actually scores goals. and with meelberg suspended now how many defenders do we actually have available. 3 (knight who is useless, laursen and bouma) and a midfielder at right back. so what happens next game if one of them get injured. we have no defenders to be on the bench. its an utter joke and completely unprofessional. MON made a huge mistake in not signing defoe. he is a clinical finisher that would score 20 goals a season if playing regularly. gabby is not even close to his standard - he has pace, but no skill and isnt a finisher. |

what MON needs to do is tell NRC it's ok to go forward. if he switches Nigel and Gareth's responsibilities, we'll be in good shape. NRC showed some proficiency linking play in the preseason, and I don't really get why MON switched him to a holding role after that. |

Then the club set the bar a little lower 'UEFA CUP' now the bar gets set lower Intertoto Cup. Mid table obscurity now beckons due to the managers reluctance to strengthen the squad in January, and if you're honest with yourselves it's been coming more apparent after that defeat by Fulham. As for the becoming the new Leicester, we have drawn a lot of games which should have been won. The rest of the season will sort out the men from the boys and I won't be surprised if there isn't a big shake up in the summer. Quite disgusted after the last 2 results. |

Defoe is nothing special excluding Bournemouth this is the first time he has scored more than 13 in a season. However we do need a 20 a season man and some more players to give the team some depth on top of some real quality. This summer really needs to be a busy one. We have 3 recognised defenders available for Sunderland unless you include Barry. |

today was really a tale of two goal keepers. james was asked a lot of questions and he made some good saves and neutralized a lot of our set pieces (altho he was helped by gareth's poor delivery). carson had a couple of brain freezes and it cost us two goals. surely it's time to give taylor a go? for what it's worth, i'm glad we didn't get defoe. he's too much of a pretty boy and was unsighted for most of the game. if it wasn't for carson's error we wouldn't even be talking about him. |

sorry guys but i really think if we spend 10mil on carson it wil be 10mil wasted, everytime i see him play i am never confident of his ability between the sticks and i think today just topped it off, indecision cost us the first goal and lack of communication between him and the players cost us the second, i know it is easy to blame the keeper, and i have gone this far through the season without doing so, but just at the time when you dont want the keeper to make mistakes and he has, and not for the first time this season, bring in guzan and save ourselves 6mil |

I'm disappointed in the result, but we can still get into Europe, at least by the Intertoto. A draw and a loss doesn't make for a bad season. I don't care that we didn't sign Defoe. If we did and he played well, he'd probably be clamoring to join a bigger club anyway. He's a decent striker, but his ego has always been bigger than his skill in my opinion. Portsmouth is the destination of highly-touted players who have been sitting on the bench at another club who are looking to move back to a big 4 team. When their hired guns move on, they'll be back in 16th. I agree we need some creativity in midfield and a striker with some quality. I don't think Gabby is any better than Derbyshire, and he rarely starts for Blackburn. I also think that we should start looking for better options than Calamity Carson in goal. |

Zat Knight, he has to be one of the worst centre backs in the Premiership, Why sell Cahill? I even rate Ridgewell better than Knight and id'e never ever in my life thought id'e be saying that. Why did MON buy Knight? He should have never have been signed, Martin should have signed a right back and used Mellberg for Knights position, the man wasn't good enough to get into the Fulham side, and there defence is worser than ours.You have to question MON signings to date, bar Young....not good Martin, not good at all.. |

I honestly thought Salifou looked alright for the 10 mins he played. Apparently he's earned a new contract too, based on his reserve performances. Any thoughts on pushing Barry back out to the left, he's too rash in the challenge and seems to be second to the ball more often than not. Play Sean attacking mid where he'll have more shooting opps. and Reo sitting back. Harewood and Carew to start and sub the weakest for pacey Gabby on 60. I'm too nervous to talk about our defence, considering we're short. Bouma is still our most consistent player though, all credit to him. Maybe Mellberg and Laursen at centre, like the old days. |

I think MON thought defoe was'nt worth paying for wether it be wages or fee, etc, because he knows we have a player in Nathan Delfouneso who looks like he's going to be a bit special. He's very like Defoe, quick with a eye for goal, i know he's young but i think he'll get a chance soon, and the OS agree's, can't wait to see him, look at the young lad from West Ham Yesterday, Fred Sear's, he did very well, maybe Nathan will get his chance soon. As for Carson, i'm losing confidence in him every time he plays, and i had high hopes for him, i dont think he's worth the money LIverpool will be asking. |

watching them on motd last night, at times we looked terrible, players bunched together, players not knowing where the ball was, none of them looked like they kept to there positions, harewood should have started, salifou - we dont like divers at ur club, laursen hasnt been the same since signing a new contract, cahill is better than zat knight!!, give stuart taylor a chance - i like carson but hes obviously taking his place for granted, and worst of all, we played in blue shorts, i dont like blue shorts, should always be white shorts on our home kit. |

What infuriates me most about MON is that at times his tactics and squad selection are predictable week in and week out. Gabby has Carew were flat last weekend, granted the supply line from midfield was non existent, but even so, when is the last time Gabby scored or looked sharp? Harewood has looked far better than Carew and Gabby in the past 5-6 days but the guy cannot buy a start, this is bad management and has cost us. Scott Carson, another that has needed dropping for a few games, god knows Taylor is as good if not better, but again MON is one dimensional and does not change things when they are wrong. The facts are that we are a better team under MON, I don't think anyone would disagree with that, but at the same time he's done nothing in the transfer window to fix a problem that he knew he had which seems ridiculous to me. He also sold players we could do with now without bringing in replacements, again, stupid and is costing us as we have injuries and suspensions. As much as I like what MON has done for VIlla, I am annoyed that we'll ultimately not achieve what we are capable of because the manager will not stick his neck out and bring in the right players for the price that they now cost. We lost Robbie Keane a few seasons ago for 500,000 that Villa refused to pay, and the list goes on… We will not achieve top 4-5 without bringing in some real quality, that quality costs money and when Portsmouth and other teams premiership clubs are prepared to pay that, Villa will sit just under that top 6-7. I am sure a lot of you will give me stick for this, but i'd take Harry Redknapp as a manger over MON any day of the week, he's sharper tactically and a better manager. |

i agree about agbonlahor, but we have an attacking midfielder in maloney and if he can regain his form stiliyan petrov, try something new, try barry left wing, young right, maloney attacking midfielder and reo coker defensive, or ever better, give salifou a proper try, and maybe bring a sub on, such as newly promoted to senior team, nathan delfouneso, i like gabby but probs best if he stays right wing i dont know, in fact with young and gabby on the wings comign forward all the time, and barry and reocoker holding in midfield theres no reason not to start harewood, carew and harewood are good players (carew is better) and then theres still speed and pace in gabby and young |

Look at how DIFFERENT villa discussions have become? we are worried of not winning, if i were to dig up discussions from 2-3 years back, we were worried of not letting in more than 2 goals @_@ but like you guys, i do agree that we should drop some of our "star" players. Carson, Gabby and Barry should be dropped. Barry doesnt offer much in midfield to be honest. id rather mon place i midfield in Coker, and one AMC (Maloney). I have to say 10/15 games into the season and I thought we had it made with Scott Carson. But in the last couple of months the lad has looked shakey... very VERY shakey. He's letting in really soft goals and making very bad decisions leading to goals. I'm sure we can put most of this down to lack of experience but even still, lately he's been lacking even the most basic composure needed at the top level. Both goals against Pompy were classic examples of this. Why on Earth rush the striker when he has two defenders trying to pressure him? Why on Earth come that far out only to lunge dangerously at the ball? Very poor. I know in hindsight this is going to sound very obvious, but I would bet my hat Stuart Taylor would not have made these mistakes. That was at our end, but what about the big money makers? Where were they? Villa fans will snap at my ankles for saying this - but two months ago there were reports that Arsenal were prepared to pay £15m for Agbonlahor. At this precise moment in time, I'd say thank you very much Mr. Wenger and send the boy packing. Damian is right, he is a prospect but lately he's not looking quite the prospect we all thought he was. His number one weakness ever since he broke into the team was his finishing, it's poor most of the time but down right pathetic recently. My major concern now is that, with Villa being Villa, and with only 2 wins in the last 8 now, we're going to need a major reversal if we're going to end the season on a high and compete for 6th which must now be the target. We may even all find ourselves cheering on Pompey to win the FA Cup and aiming for 7th in the league to be playing (somewhere) in Europe next season. |

At the end of the january transfer window - it did not take a rocket scientist to foresee our current predicament. There is one reason and one reason only for our small squad size - MoN has had two full seasons now and 3.5 transfer windows to bolster the squad and has failed to do so. I found at the time and continue to do so - the sale of Gary Cahill incredible. How can you spend a season without a right back?? Carson has for some time been a liability and frankly I dont see this 'potential' that people are talking about. He cant kick, couldn't catch a cold, is dodgy from fre kicks and long range shots, is a quiet as a mouse and never comes off his line.....what exactly is he good at??? The Barry/Reo Coker combo does not work. Two defensive midfielders who offer nothing going forward (0 league goals all season and I cant remember one that was even created by either, bar penalties). You would imagine that with 2 defensive midfielders we would have a better defensive record.... After saturday - people are questioning why we didn't sign Defoe - I would question why we didn't sign Diarra - this guy is sheer class. MoN's honeymoon period is over and his decisions are now being questioned - if serious changes dont happen in the Summer - then we have missed the boat - yet again. He needs to accept that you have to pay the going rate and that its not his own personal money he is spending. Frankly I dont care what a player costs and if he is 10 million more than he should be - if he is good enough then pay the cash... |

If you look back our season has not really been convincing and consistant. Yes some good results like the 4 goals scored on a few occasions, but they are freaks! So many last points from being in front! I'd like to see all the s**t on the AVFC website stop, such as,...'Barry Hails Gabby etc, etc..or Whoever hails whoever for whatever'. Who give a sh*t....just bloody play the game of football your paid to. Get rid of that numpty who does the website and stop publishing propoganda..I thought that left with Ellis. I could go on, but I'm sick and tired of all the big talk and bullsh*t that in the end comes to an absolute big fat zero. THis year we have had money on the table twice. Now as a financial manager MON is great because in the summer he 'made' money, but let's face it, how have the big got so big? I would one day like my son to see The Villa be champions one day...like that's going to happen! i am a big fan of mon.but he must admit his signings with the exception of young have been poor.petrov is useless at best championship standard,maloney dosnt want to know is homesick?.knight lacks any ability to read the game,cahill was far better,n r c works hard but lacks any invention,carew was a good swap for baros,he holds the ball well but is too predictable,carson seems to be getting worse,taylor is as good if not better,and i didnt think i would say it but harewood is the best buy he shows commitment and passion and seems proud to wear the shirt.so come on mon splash some of randys bucks on some quality or i fear the worst |

This season we really have had the chance to do something, maybe even (dare I say it) get into the Champs League! We had an oppurtunity and missed out on it due to bad management! By bad management I mean the guy who takes it upon himself to oversee all the transfers (I say all with tongue in cheek!), contract talks, picks the team etc... That man is MON. Yes he can make a crap player average - and an average player half decent, but what more has he got in his locker? And how many more average players is he going to fill our dressing room with? Whenever we are in a transfer window MON says he is after the "right quality players" - but I think it's time to question MONs idea of "the right quality". Is Zat Sh*te the right quality? Is Harewood the right quality? Is Salipoo the right quality? Is Carson the right quality? Is NRC the right quality? If in MONs eyes these are the players who will take us somewhere then where the hell is he trying to take us. Therefore I conclude that "right quality" actually means "Average on a good day!" That, my friends, is the only possible theory when you weigh up MONs "right quality" quote against his Actual Purchased Players, THAT IS A FACT! This is not the Scottish league where you can take risks on under-acheivers, this is the finest league in the world and only proven quality players will |
