It's all about the rumour: Bafetimbi Gomis from St-Étienne
Written by Damian

I love nothing more than a little speculation on a Sunday morning and I like it best when it comes from the trash. This morning the official website led me to the Sunday People - could I get any more trashy?

Anyway, the rumour is that we're chasing Bafetimbi Gomis from St-Étienne. He's a 22 year old striker who some say is as good as Drogba. I think Drogba is good but there is also a lot of hype.

Anyway, this isn't about my views on the Chelsea player it's about this young lad playing in the French league.

I can categorically say that if I've seen him play I didn't remember him. I don't think I should be struck off for that but I will delve deep into my video collection from the last season or two and see if I can find him.

Until I have an opinion on him there is a little clip above and to the right, as found on YouTube. I could look good on YouTube and seeing as he's been playing since 2003, it's not a very long clip, take it as you want to take it.

Right, trashy Sunday rumour number one out of the way. I'm going to check back on the official site for more trash later as they're quite good at finding it and if I find any there or somewhere else we'll let you know.

i dont understand why the official club site post rumours from the newspapers, its as if they are encouraging journalists to make things up.

Am I right in thinking that Villa finishings 6th will not qualify for UEFA Cup after yesterdays FA Cup Results?

Marseille v St Etienne Setanta 5pm Kick off today, should be good to check him out just in case.

Bullard hardly fits the young and hungry bill by the way but i'd have him over Petrov

Well ive got to say i havent heard of Gomis, and apparently Newcastle are after him as well. SgVilla said Feindouno and i couldnt agree more- would be an excellent acquisition.

As for the Bullard rumour...i hope not.

Bullard would be a great signing as a squad player. Good, busy midfielder and great at set peices.

i say we try and sign david villa and say we will name the stadium after him if he comes lol (not david park for all u sarcy c@*#s) , i have a feeling villa will have to qualify through the intertoto cup this year, which doesn't bother me as i know we can do it

i no this has nothing to with the subject but i thought there would have been a blog about this already. 6th place is now gone in the league for european qualification now chelski and man utd have been knocked out. So its 4th or 5th or intertoto for us now.

He may not be world class, but Bullard certainly puts himself about and gives his all. Not sure how he'd feel about being a squad player, which is all he would merit if Villa are properly ambitious.

Upset about the European places. I can't believe Utd and Chelsea both choked yesterday. Useless.

I have always been really impressed when I have seen Bullard, so I think he would be a great purchase. Another each time he's played the Villa and played great is Sidwell now at Chelsea, he does not seem to be getting much play at Chelsea, and would to see him at the Villa( that's unless these guys only turn it on against us).

Does the Intertwobob cup just give a place to 1 English team? as i know Everton have applied as well as us?
Does it also mean that we need to cheer on Everton and Spurs in the Uefa cup to create another European spot?

I've always liked Bullard, he did the damage against us, not only the freekick but he supplied the cross from the right for their first goal, the sort of cross that we have needed from the right all season to take some of the pressure off Ash in games.

This guy isn't that prolfic. If we're really looking in the French league for a striker we should probably be going for Pauleta.

St-Etienne aren't a team renowned for their goalscoring, so I wonder how many of the goals in those videos are in cup matches against lesser teams?

That Feindouno fella looks very useful though.

As for Bullard, I'd be happy for him to join our squad, but I'd hope we could do better for the first 11.

Come on, lets not get ahead of ourselves as we have done in the last 4 transfer windows, Bullard would be a great signing as would sidwell. Lets stop dreaming and be realistic, these are good signings, some of the other suggestions of the past 2 years have been crazy!!!
