FA Youth Cup: Chelsea 1 Aston Villa 1
Written by Damian

Nearly 3,500 people were at Chelsea to watch the first leg of the FA Youth Cup semi final last night and they saw an Aston Villa youth team not walk away with the victory but setting themselves up for the second leg to be held at Villa Park.

There were a few Aston Villa fans there and according to someone who went the banter was good. But 3,500 - I've got a feeling they'll be a lot more at Villa Park!

The next leg is on March 19th and it's free to get in and kick off, I think is 7pm - but I might have that wrong but don't worry we'll be writing about this match again before it happens.

It should be a fantastic night and with the final against either Sunderland or Manchester City - the kids could all the way. Expect to see quite a few familiar faces at the match too.

I was there sitting with a few Chelsea boys, the first half was a bit boring with both teams cancelling each other out, but your right Damien there was some good banter between the fans. The second half Villa took the lead after 7 minutes a well taken goal from Nathan Delfouneso. That’s when the game livened up, and the tackles started flying in. It was nice to see MON on the bench and being as animated and that must have been encouraging for the lads. Not be bias but Villa were the better team out playing and muscling Chelsea, but we could have thrown it away but for a great last minutes save by young lad in goals. I was impressed with the Villa No 7 Marc Albrighton (I think) a local lad from Sutton Coldfield, definitely one for the future excellent crosser of the ball, tracked back well and terrified the Chelsea left back all night.

Great news ! Nice to see Delfouenso maintaining his form and a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge is good enough for me from any Villa side.
I think it may be time to introduce my eight year old daughter to Villa Park for the second leg. It would be a great FREE night out for us, I think she would enjoy it with maybe a bite to eat in the Holte pub first.
Does anyone know if kids are allowed in the Holte pub for food and is it open before the game.

On another note, many congratulations to Barnsley. With Villa not playing today, i've been jumping around like a loon for them today. Every man gave their all for the cause and the got the victory and fair play to them.
The big centre forward and the keeper Steele(again)caught the eye like many in their hard working team.
Watch Match of the Day tonight boys...you're in for a treat watching Chelsea and Man United go out on the same day at this stage.
The cup is wide open now, any comments on what that means to Villa's euro possibilites would be welcome because i can't keep track on it.
UP THE VILLA ON WEDNESDAY

its bad news for villa as we needed 2 teams that have already qualified for europe (or as good as qualified) to be in the final, looks like villa might miss out again this year

.... Villa looked great for 30 mins after half time and should have scored more. Delfunesco took his goal incredible cooly. Albrighton very composed - Chelsea fans behind me said he reminded them of a young Kenny Swain. Others that stood out were Barry Bannan - he is tiny with a huge heart and great delivery and the Villa captain (didn't catch his name) who won every ball in the air and looks a prospect.

AV33 - Man Utd and Chelsea losing was not good news for Villa. Had they played each other in the final it would have opened up another european place (sixth) - now we will have to finish fifth - still think we can do it though.

I was sickened by the Chelsea chavs that were abusing the young Villa lads taking corners and abusing some Villa fans to the extent that the Villa fans had to be ejected because there were too many Chelsea fans to be ejected.

Disgusting and shameful at a youth game.
