Davies out for the season, ticket price hike and a rumour
Written by Damian

Curtis Davies had surgery last night after rupturing his Achilles tendon in the 1-1 draw with Arsenal and for those that didn't know, I was one of them, it could mean a long time on the sidelines.

Basically, we'll not know the severity of the injury until the club tell us but it could mean six to nine months before he is back. I'm sure most will wish him the best.

In other news, international man of mystery, Bill Howell has written on his Aston Villa Blog (is it me or is everyone now starting an Aston Villa Blog) that he's had news that there will be a ticket price hike at Villa Park next season.

He doesn't say if it's season ticket prices, or tickets for the Holte End or even if it's tickets for away support so this could be just Bill sucking him thumb and seeing what comes of it or somebody could have told him it's happening. Either way, we'll not know for a while but we will find out.

A quick rumour to end my Sunday post and before I go for a lunchtime beer; apparently we're after Hamburg midfielder Rafael van der Vaart. van der Vaart is Dutch and likes to score goals - scoring 12 in 50 appearances for the national side and 24 in 55 for Hamburg. All this from midfield!

How true is this, well it came from the News of the World and we have quite a few midfielders but he does have a quality about him which would be a fine addition to the squad, but again, we'll know sometime after the end of the season and probably before August.

Right, there is a beer calling my name and I have every intention of meeting up with it as soon as I've showered, so if you're in the unfortunate position to be reading this at home and not in the pub, leave a comment and if anything happens in the next three or four hours, I'll post it later.

If MON can bring Van Der Vaart to the club, id be estatic- after being disappointed with the January Window and the promise of activity this summer- this would be an excellent step in the right direction.

on an article on the internet it said that MON enquired about huntelaar but ajax said we're definitely not getting him so MON's now looking at van der vaart!!

Yeah my dad ruptured his ankle a long time ago. It hasn't healed in 6 years. Could be really bad. Although, my dad didn't have surgery on it, so Davies should be slightly better off.

Very sad for him, but lucky for us it was in a position where we have genuine cover.

It's a nasty injury. His pace could be affected permanently. He's young though, so hopefully he'll heal in time to play a part in next season (assuming this doesn't affect his permanent transfer from West Brom).

As for Van der Vaart - I like this rumour. He's a bit of quality and we could do with a goalscoring midfielder.

If Davies injury turns out to be mega serious, i.e. 9months out with no guarantees that it wont break down again - i wonder if we have any get out clause with the £10mill deal with Albion we're committed to after the loan ends in May.

Don't fancy the idea of forking out that much for a guy who wont play for months and might suffer from flare ups throughout the rest of his career. Feel for Davies, he looked a great player

What the hell does this even mean, perhaps you should write your blog posts before you go to the pub mate.

Good luck to Curtis, it's a real shame he was settling into the side well, We do have Zat Knight as cover as well as Mellberg so I think we'll be fine, Reo Coker on the other hand is a different story which means that we'll probably see Petrov next weekend. I hope that he gives Osbourne a chance, he looks like he has great potential, or even the myth that is Salifou, has anyone actually seen this kid play?

Real shame for Curtis..get well soon son !
Lets just hope Olly and Zat can sort centre defence between them for the rest of the season.
That Eduardo injury was one of the most shocking i've seen and i really hope that the morons who chanted about this feel so bad now. I wouldn't wish that kind of thing on my worst enemy. I hope he comes back and shows us some more of the obvious quality he has, but hopefully not against us !
The season ticket price hike is hopefully a good thing although it may not seem like that at the moment. Villa fans have put up with price rises for years without reward but now more than ever, i think it just might be worth paying whatever it takes to watch the boys next season.
We're playing the best football seen at VP in years, with the best management and board that we could have ever hoped for after the E@%*s years ! We are fighting at the top of the table and if the News of the World is anything to go by, we're getting Van de Vaart and have been turned down for Huntelaar !
If that is the kind of signing MON is now looking at, then exciting times await at us next season.
So please don't moan if they raise season ticket prices by a little(i mean a little !), because I reckon after next season, Villa tickets, hospitality and season tickets especially, will become as they are for Man Utd supporters...like rocking horse s**t !
Anyways, great performance from the lads at Arsenal and we really should have held on for the points. I was gutted when I saw how soft the injury time goal was, why didn't Carson claim it? (another story?...£10mill, i'm not so sure). I'd go on about his positioning on Bullard's free kick, Liverpools equaliser but it's not the Scott Carson debate. He did make one superb save though yesterday (i'm not disputing his ability as a stopper)
Good times ahead for Villa smilies/wink.gif smilies/wink.gif

Morning Villains.
I'd just like to say that as, primarily a football fan and secondly an Arsenal fan, I was disgusted at the sick chant made by your alleged fans at the game on Saturday. They were a disgrace to your club.
I would also like to wish Curtis Davies a speedy recovery from his injury. I also hope that the fans who receievd a bit of a kicking after the game do not make the same recovery.

Welling Gooner - Sorry about the song, a very young lad next to me was singing it and he was soon stopped. Villa don't dislike the gooners at all, maybe your North Londen Friends, but not you fellas. Hope you win the race rather that those Mancs.

I wish Davies all the best and a speedy recovery, though it does seem he will miss the rest of this season.

van der Vaart would be a massive step in the right direction, though it would mean dropping Reo-Coker or Barry. You can never trust News of the world, but let's wait and see what happens.

I have faith in MON's ability to attract good players to this club, I just think he needs reasons for the likes of van der Vaart to come. And so if we can qualify for Europe this season, which will most likely be the UEFA Cup, I reckon we could be in for an interesting summer transfer market.

the eduardo song really wasnt that bad atall. ive hear much wosre like harry redknapps "getting bummed the shower" song and cardiffs "sheep sh*gger" and "upson takes it up the a**e" are all much worse. the injury wasn't even that bad. he dislocated his ankle wich made it look worse than it actually was and he broke his leg like alot of playes have and havent had the same amount of sypathy as he has. alan smith broke his leg and nobody cared at all. everyone treating eduard as if he is dead or somehing. get over it its a song there is much worse and ofensive out there.

Bit tired of the chant business now. Gooners: You don't want to professionalize victimhood or over-employ righteous indignation.

What's truly odd is that you can applaud violence over a silly chant about a random injury to a man you don't even know, and still think the chanters are the 'sick' ones. Funny old game, isn't it?
