Keepers galore: Scott Carson and Brad Guzan for next season
Written by Damian

I used to like the Daily Mail. Admittedly that was a long time ago and a few years before they started giving keyboards to monkeys and hoping they came up with a story or two, but today they're predicting a deal for Carson and Guzan.

I'd like the Carson deal to happen and from what I've seen of Guzan I think he'll make an excellent deputy - so it would be nice if this happened.

However, these are just educated guesses from the paper. Much like I could write that the Premier League are going to come back in with a new proposal to play one of the existing league matches overseas, after consulting with FIFA and supporters groups, sometime next season.

Like I've said, I'd like Carson to stay as I think he's got bags of potential and is already a very good keeper and because all the best teams have a solid keeper.

Sure, he's made the odd mistake and he'll make more but every keeper does. He's only 22 years old and could possibly play another 15 seasons in the top flight - is £10mn. really that much for a player with that potential?

Brad Guzan on the other hand is a year older but he's been linked with teams like Arsenal, Celtic and Liverpool and we did try to bring him here in January.

Don't be surprised if come the start of next season Carson is first choice and Guzan is on the bench.

Yes, Carson is still young but you would have hoped by now, with all his experience, he would have ironed out some of his faults that have been evident for a while.

He pushes the ball back where it came from rather than out to the side making it harder for tap ins, his positional play is poor at times (he could have covered the Shorey free kick but hesistated and dived too late) and he seems unable to really command and instruct his defence, you never see him shouting at defenders the way other keepers do.

Still young and hopefully can learn from these mistakes.

Sounds a nice idea. But really not sure carson is worth 10 mill, with guzans fee thats 13 - 14 million for the keeper position. For 10 mill i would like an established top rate keeper.

He does have potential tho, altho with potential theres no guarentee remember Nii Lamptey. Bad example i know but just wanted to mention the lad.

Optimistic for tomorrow no persie so best buddies bendtner and adebayor might partner, no rosicky either and gallas hopefully will remain unstable. Would be chuffed with a draw mind

I don't know much about Guzan, but I wouldn't want to see Stuart Taylor sold. I think he's our best keeper and he's got another 7-8 seasons in him and much more ability than Carson.

I just don't see Carson ever coming good. It's not just mistakes - that can be fixed - it's more that I don't remember him making a match winning save. He managed that penalty save, but even Taylor did that after Carson gave one away against Man U, along with class saves later on in that games and against Liverpool.

Shouldn't we be picking our team on merit? If so, Carson would not be playing and it's a big risk to keep picking him and pay £10 million for him just in the hope that one day he'll be good as he's only 22. There are plenty of crap 22 year old keepers out there - why not buy one of them using the same reasoning? They'd be cheaper.

i think carson and guzan would be ideal, im not a big fan of guzan as i dont think he is that good at the moment but think he does have potential, and who better than martin oneill to help him achieve this, but i think if we do sign guzan we need an already proven goalkeeper and in my opinion carson is that.

Seeing as how craig Gordon cost 9 million, if we can get Carson for 10 id bite Liverpools hands off.

I Can remember 3 seasons ago Buffon was valued at 12.5 Million when arsenal were supposedly interested in him. Now take carson he's no where near Buffon quality but he's valued at 10 Million. I think villa should hold out and look for better options in goal for that price.

carson is a good keeper but he does make a few mistakes like the goal we conceded on sunday against readin if his positioning was better he would of got to it and his communication doesnt seem to be all that good, he has bags of potential and could be a great player but at the moment i dont think hes worth 10million. i would like him to sign permanent but i dont think villa should be payin 10mil for him

blitzballer have u not watched games this year. Gordon has been far more impressive than carson throughout the season. carson cannot hold onto a ball, his positioning is not worthy of a prem goalie - look at the fulham winneer - where was he standing!! he doesnt give any confidence to the back 4 and shoulnt be in the side. Taylor is a better keeper.

Debbie Gibson? I used to want to Tonebone her. Sorry mate, it was there to be used. Its Friday, I've had a few whiskey's, Taylor for number 1 at the moment. Carson has had an easy ride so far, can't really think when he's had loads to do, too well looked after by the rest of the team. Half of his work is picking the ball out the back of the net.

Why are Liverpool ditching him if he is young and has top class potential? I personally don't think he's the man for us.

Big teams buy a proven keeper, they don't develop them.

Did Debbie Gibson sing 'I think we're alone now'?

I don't mind Carson, but I think 10 million is a bit steep. What did Cech cost Chelsea? 7 million?
I'd like to see Guzan come here, though I'm not sure whether or not he's quite ready to start in the EPL.
