It obvious that nobody wants him to take the job but is it that much of an unattractive offer, I'm not so sure. The lure of Liverpool is still a Massive pull and if it comes up I would be a little worried. I think although the club is having somewhat of a crisis it's still a huge opportunity for any manager and it's even more attractive than the England job which seriously concerns me. In saying that the working relationship O'Neill has with Learner and the way the club is moving is certainly an extremely important reason to stay at Villa and I suspect that stability is the most attractive thing to O'Neill at the moment especially with regard to his personnel life. I think this rumor and O'Neill's reaction will only help push us into Europe, the England situation had a massive effect on the Moral of the team and I think this will be the same. |

MON has put a firm structure in place at the villa and is still building on it, if he went to pool he'd have to do the same again the amount of dead wood they have there is incredible, Aurelio, Kuyt, Voronin, Pennant, Riise, Arbeloa, Itandje are all UEFA cup players, they don't belong at a big club like liverpool. MON would have to start from scratch with a board - Untrustworhty American types / Dubai INVESTMENT capital - that has no track record whereas at the villa MON and Lerner are building what is known in American sports as a DYNASTY! |

I think its wishfull thinking to believe that the MONster would not be interested in managing Liverpool. Any manager with ambition would have to think seriously about rejecting Liverpool.. I would be very happy for Villa to sign Bent - a much better signing than Defoe would have been - in my opinion. |

eoin - Liverpool fan ?. What ambition is in Liverpool that Villa can't match in a couple of years time ? Because from what i'm seeing Villa are alot more stable financially and have better board that's not constantly linked with selling. If any manager has ambition it's to take team and make them something great like Mon's doing at Villa. |

Course we're not finished without him he's just doing his job well that's all. There's plenty more fish in the sea. I Wouldn't want him to go but Villa were here before he was and WILL be here after he eventually leaves. |

Chrisodon, I was just trying to be realistic. Liverpool are a massive club, huge fan base, attract much more media attention and have a prestige associated with them that cannot be matched in the UK - and no I am not a fan!! Anybody with ambition to manage a top european side would have to think seriously about not taking a job that huge. The MONster is doing an unbelievable job with Villa and long may it continue - but right now you cant say that its a bigger job than liverpool.... It can only be a compliment to Villa that he is linked with such positions. DOL anyone??? |

I Wouldn't say they're a massive club, Massive is teams like man yoo, real madrid & ac milan. But they've got prestige i'll give you that any team that wins the european cup 5 times deserves a pat on the back, In terms of fans they're only bigger because of the Champions league and the press that's associated to it you've just got to look at celtic for that big fish small pond but known around the world. Liverpool have never been the club that alot people think they are title chasers and have a given right to win things, they've holed themselves in top 4 and now clubs below have more money and better players the pressures starting to tell on them. |

I'm gonna be bold - I don't think there is any job Martin O'Neill would take right now. Why would he want to replace Sir Alex? The only way is down. The only slight attraction in Liverpool is that they're under performing and he could sort them out. But really, MON wants to prove himself by being at a club for the long term, making an average team great. There's 0% chance he would leave Villa for any other job. He proved that when he refused England. |

We wouldn't find a replacement as good as him thats for sure but i dont think he'll go to a club in the hands of owners they have, as big as Liverpool are. Fergie said it the other day, it's all about the people your woking for and with. MON will be a legend at Villa no doubt about that making an average team great again and for these reasons i think and hope he will stay. In MON we trust! |

Also, look at the reported relationship with RL, would he be able to relate to 'Pools current or possible next owners in the same way? I would think that after majoR succcesses at Villa MON will end up at one of the super clubs on the continent; Barca, Real, Bayern or Madrid. Think like him: what's next? |

Nothing to be gained by MON at Liverpool. I agree that he would only go to Utd and then only when he feels he has achieved what he wanted with us. Liverpool need to reevaluate who they think they are. They are now one of the chasing pack and at present not even the best of the chasers. Rafa is doing OK, he will be sacked this season because of misplaced expectation. Will it help us if they lose tonight and he is sacked? Do we want them in the Champions League and preoccupied with that or out and in chaos? |

The lion on the badge is the lion of St Andrew isn't it? I'm not scotish and it doesn't bother me, but I know lots of people don't like national symbols being used in football. I for one liked Mickey boy's design but wouldn't want anyone offended by the flag. |

i'm an english ex-pat teaching in Korea. honestly finding it hard enough to turn my students into villa fans as it is (what with park playing for man u). I Support England and am proud to be British but the best way to increase our fanbase overseas would be to keep the flag about the club. national alligances just wouldn't help the cause. UTV! |

I am an irish VILLA supporter and was merely trying to say that realistically MoN would be tempted by the Liverpool job - i am not saying he would take it. I also think it would be a better job than the united one!!! Whoever takes the united job next will have a poisoned chalice and be compared to fergie and live under his shadow - similar to when schmeichal left. Liverpool on the other hand are also a big club but in a bad state (similar to villa when MoN took over). I also agree that the Villa flag should have no national symbols. Finally, I live in sweden now and have seen a lot of Zlatan - lets sign him cause he is pure gold!!! |

I wouldn't say there is no chance at all of MON going to Anfield, but it would surprise me a little. He might have turned down England, but that is a totally different situation. Managing a national side is so much different to a club side. I agree with eoin, anyone would have to think carefully if given the offer of the Liverpool job. Fair enough we may be having a good season but we aren't as big as them. The reason it would surprise me however, is that I think MON had his sights on staying at Villa Park for a while, giving enough time to build a UEFA Cup and Champions League. It all depends. I think there are probably more reasons for him to stay than to leave, all I'm saying is that I personally wouldn't blame him for at least considering it. |

The problem Liverpool fans have with the board is the fact they approached Kilinsman whilst Rafa was still in charge and have re-financed Liverpool to buy the new stadium. |
