I beleive there is money available but Randy and MON want to it properly, building on a steady foundation, which i agree with. If you remember last year when there was a chance we could enter the intertoto MON said we were not ready but if we were struggling for europe next year we may consider it. This year i beleive we are guarenteed at least Uefa Cup qualification...and thats with ten players as you cant count olof!!(just kiddin Damian!) In the summer i can see us investing heavily in european class players(not world)then break into top four in the next couple of years (hopefully!!). Once we have qualified for champs league then the world class players will come... mark my words!!!! Up The Villa (in a 55000 seater stadium!! |

Lets push for that champs league spot and then we will have some real quality to choose from. With MoN's leadership we should be competing with the likes of Manure Utd for the cream of footballing talent. Exciting times ahead I believe. If we do get a Champs league place, then no excuses in the Summer UTV |

Listen guys, it will be the time soon to by season tickets so its the usual crap and having lots of cash for top players, the usual taking the fans for a ride, i wonder how Lerner would feel if the club sold very few season tickets come august! i will only believe it when it really happens |

| I'm sure we do have the money, but I think this story has just come about as a result of an educated guess rather than any new news. I'd prefer it if the papers didn't publish these types of stories because it only goes to inflate the prices we'll have to pay for players. Also, £30 million isn't really that much - probably 4 half-decent players. |

| Yeah but if we advertise the fact we've got a lot of money to spend, all the clubs will up the price for their players so we'll either be paying more than the player is worth or turn them all down on principle and still end up with a small squad. |

sam_villa 1 Theres no point and no business sense in spending it on expanding the stadium until we have the players to attract 50,000 week end week out. The squad should come first, and that will naturally lead to improvements in infastructure so that success on the pitch is supported by improvemnts and expansion off of it |

| Sam.. The stadium expansion is based on knocking down the North Stand and redevloping this end with a stand similar to the Holte End. This will increase capacity to around 52,500. The ends won't be filled in but the stadium will look more uniform. I'm not for having the ends filled in anyway as with Villa Park each stand is different, with differnet roof heights etc etc so wouldn't work. Plus Villa Park will remain unique with proper end stands a proper English Footbal Stadium. Have you noticed from other fans forums the amount of opposition fans who 'love Villa Park' and quote Villa Park as being 'their favorite away stadium'. Filling in the corners also limits air to the pitch which is why Old Trafford's pitch is so shocking. UTV |

To increase revenue for many other reasons, Villa park needs an increased capacity. Worringly in that football club revenue top 20, Villa are nowhere to be seen - behind the likes of spurs and newcastle... 30m when you take away 10m for Carson and 10m for Davies - only 10m left!!! I know Petrov cannot play in midfield - but could he do a job for us at rightback for a season |

The money's there, always has been. Rather than get caught up in the rather hopeless exercise of throwing darts at the board, MON has wanted to establish a new ground floor. Dead wood out, fresh faces in, new foundation. I think now that he's had a full season to see what he's got and where it can go, he'll be bringing in the right players. If Villa are in CL or UEFA, he'll have to, obviously. When you're rebuilding an entire club from the ground up, one of the most important aspects is the dressing room being filled with the right sorts of players...hungry, hard-working, talented, anxious to improve. This is the framework into which new players will have to fit. This is the identity of the club now. He could've bought a lot of players, but then he wouldn't really have been completely remaking Villa, and establishing a new order. Also, I do think MON's wanted the likes of Gabby, Young, Davies/Knight, NRC, etc., to have a full season growing up, getting the games in, learning how to compete at this level. He's not wanted to have them looking over their shoulders, but just playing football knowing they've got their spots and the manager's backing. The constant shuffling in of new players, some of whom would be mercenaries, and players getting dropped for the odd of game...None of that would grow the players' confidence. The talk that MON doesn't understand the transfer market is rubbish. What's to understand? With five players getting England call-ups, he's obviously got it right when it comes to identifying raw talent, and Capello obviously respects the job MON's doing with them. He plans to be amongst the top clubs, and isn't panicking about this season, as this won't be Villa's only best chance for getting to Europe. It was always meant to be a rebuilding season, and has just turned out well. MON's obviously cagey. Here he's publicly downplaying Villa's chances of 4th, but apparently in the dressing room at half-time against Newcastle, he's telling the players that 4th is within reach. Same with his small-squad refrain. He's taking pressure off the players, reducing expectations publicly, and letting them be underdogs. It's good psychology. I know everyone's waited a lifetime for Villa to be a force again, and it will happen. It's tantalizingly close, and so it's hard for the fans to rein in their dreams, but it's coming, make no mistake. |

you sure your names is kohoutec on krulak? If you have seen my comments vbefore you will know i am an optimist. I agree thatthe cash has always been there. But there is a limit. Therefore, martin won't waste money on stop gaps. He would rather wait and invest the spondooly wisely. that way the cash should'nt run out. I could see an investment of in excess of 30 mayby 40m in the summer. and heres why. Randy comes in and says to mon heres 30m to spend on the team for example. buys a few players(maloney, young etc). Mon then clears out the duffers for 10m so we are almost break even. AV then get prize money for last season plus bumper sky monies plus bigger than expected season tickets sales etc etc. The clubs two highest earners leaes (baros and angel.)lets estimate that this equates to £40m to spend ( it can't be far off with sky being 30 mill.) The new season starts and we exceed expectations on the pitch and bigger crouds. sky draft in extra games of vill for the second half of the season and Sony announce they are in disucssions about being sponser next season. The window opens in janury and we sign a young englishman for 1m and sell a potential blue nose cary gayhill for 5m. prize money in the prem gos up 600k per spot. so av could bank extra 4m ish from last year. add uefa cup money (say 5m) plus extra ticket sales (say 3m) plus extra tv. etc etc. Make your own mind up. Alot hinges on europe but if we get there we could see a 50mn spend should the right players be available. |

eoin The rich list is based on revenue - so clubs that have been in europe will have much higher placings than us given all the prize money for higher finishes and european wins/gate receipts etc. Give it a couple of years when weve been in Europe and reestablished ourselves in the UEFA cup or dare i say it even snuck into the champs league - then we will be much higher up that list |

Its a mistake to think you can just go out and sped big money and buy an instant team Everton are quoted but its taken Moyes a fewyears to develop his squad. MON has bought in 11 players and more will arrive but is takes time to rebuild a whole club from scratch but we are getting there. |

Not sure weather to belive this or not because apperntly martin o neill was told to splash the cash during the last transfer windows and did he? Its ok randy saying this but we all kno what martin o neill is like when it comes to signing players if he can get em for the price of a cup of tea he will take em if he cant get them for that then he wont bother We will see anyway but i think we will see another slow frustrating transfer window when it arrives |

| Unfortunately I don't believe this article is in anyway accurate and from what I can see its been fabricated by the Daily Star by cutting various quotes from the past year and putting them in the article. The reason I think it's fabricated is simple, the lads are currently away training as are a lot of the clubs at the moment and in order to drum up sales and a bit of news they've come up with this rubbish. In saying this however I do believe Learner is happy to back the manager. O'Neill is a smart man and he doesn't believe in spending silly money, I think it's about time we had someone like this at the club and also the league. Too much money is being thrown around on rubbish and like the Star Quoted he is not happy to pressure the owner if it is going to put the Club in difficulty. Moving forward you're going to see more managers adopt a similar stance in the transfer market, taking time and doing a lot of research before they part with their money, as managers they are also responsible for the clubs financial position. The way things are going you will see deals like Curtis Davies becoming the norm, as clubs will start to consider the risk factor in buying players more and more. Is spending money the key to breaking the top four? yes it is extremely important but it is only one of many contributing factors and the consequences of failure are sometimes not worth the flash in the pan, Leeds Utd anyone? Here's to Longevity in a league gone mad! |

No danger of mass purchases as both the owner and MON are too canny to throw money into the black hole that is the transfer market. We obviously need a bigger squad if we are going to challenge seriously on a number of fronts [PL,Europe and domestic cups]but throwing silly money at the squad is not the answer nor is cramming in names on the back of the programme just to make it look like we are a big club [eg Newcastle]. Like many people I have found MONs lack of purchases in the Windows frustrating but after a year I think I can see what he's doing and its very sensible-realistic prices for potential and [thanks Kahoutec] the right sort of people in the dressing room. At the time everyone thought Young and Davies were over-priced but MON was spot-on and we already suspect that both deals are a 'steal'. He won't get everything right [Petrov] but has a knack of persevering with players until they come good[Young, Gabby last season and Laursen with-I hope -RC and eventually Harewood this season]. The small squad is also enabling the fans to really identify with the players, and vice-versa-an aspect that seems to be missing at Chelsea and Liverpool. Its really paying off in atmosphere, the 2nd half vs Newc was elctric from the stands and there was genuine 'feeling' between fans and players. Also a smaller squad means less potential for player dissatisfaction [except Luke Moore it seems] as you can only pick 17 per match. Liverpool bought 17 new players last close season alone and Rafa rotates them in order to keep the dressing room egos happy not because there is always tactical sense in doing it.That's a poor way to manage. In truth many of the squad may be here only for the short run [eg Bouma, Knight,Osbourne, Gardner, Harewood] to establish us as a top 6 club; the trick will then be to bring in the players who will take us further without being fleeced as Chelsea often have been on their search for the perfect striker. And rightly those players will want Europe and bigger crowds as part of the deal. As for the stadium development they won't build until they are sure they can fill it.No sense in having a bigger capacity with 10,000 empty seats, it'll have all the glamour and atmosphere of Ewood Park, so I reckon that North Stand development could be another year off. If we have good pre-season sales this summer they can start laying down the plans for a 2009 build. I think [hope] that better players and a bigger ground will arrive together. Its an exciting time and there will be setbacks but despite some grumbles the fans have been loyal to Lerner, to MON and to the players. That is surely recognised and will be a major reason for Lerner to make more money available. |

Just put my vote in...can i urge other regular readers to do the same because just a few minutes ago, we were only a couple of percent from the lead and the poll only has another 2 days to run. It would be nice to see avfc blog win an award, just like the team will be doing before too long. Just to say, I don't think it would be fair if say MON was given £30 million and then had to pay for the Carson and Davies signings out of it leaving only around £10 miliion left. The Davies deal was appartently only done on a loan basis for tax reasons on Albion's side and I never did understand why we reportedly gave Liverpool £2 million for Carson's loan period (can't remember anyone else being charged a fee for a loan player !)to be followed up by a probable £10 million transfer ! If these players stay at Villa Park, I would be very disappointed if £20 million of MON's budget was wiped out straight away to secure players brought to the club ages ago. I too think Everton are doing well and I watched them the other night laying Eric Bakke's FC Brann. I did think that the Toffees were poor though. Remember 77' anyone ?? UP THE VILLA |

Villa will continue to blow another 20 million plus on Davies, Carson and the rest - frittering away money left, right and centre - and will stumble on the right formaula to join Spurs and Toon in that Billionaires' row with the rich 4. It ain't football - its business. Maybe Villa should merge with Chelski - be even richer? |
