some of petrov's problems are of his own making. he doesn't do enough to win the ball back for us or pick the right man to go after (he and mellberg had an argument on the field that seemed to go on forever) I don't think he is aware of his own faults - can't take criticism but blames the other players. That aside a brilliant second half - Gardner/Young right side and Bouma/maloney on left - much better balance. Harewood got at their defence - that was all that was needed because they really are poor. Interesting comment from MON about player confidence - these players CAN do the job for us - keep the faith UTV! |

Great and much needed result, and good for the GD, as well. Harewood really does change games. I really wonder whether he should start, or be brought on for impact. Only one way to find out, I guess. Glad MON finally sat Petrov down. He's been patient, but obviously that's run out. I like that he gives players runs, shows belief, but if it's ever going to happen for Petrov, it seems like he'll need a spell on the bench first. |

Great result for the Villa. Were still very dependent on set-plays to get goals and the first was fortunate. However, if we can win 4-1 and only play at 70% of what were capable off, then great. MON changed it at half time and you cannot fault Harewood for effort and nearly capped it off with a goal when he ran from mid field and played a little 1-2 with Carew. Must start next day. Petrov not cutting it over there. We may need to send him back north. |

Harewood is really lookin like he's enjoying himself. I'm starting to like this lad, especially the way he gets the crowd going. definately should start. Keegan couldn't crawl far enough into the dugout in the second half, w****r |

After the first half i couldnt believe how badly we played, After half time MON had clearly said somethin and finally dropped the waste of space Petrov. Im glad to see we have got a mng that is not afraid to mix it up and change things because it really worked today. Harewood was excellent i think he should start a game he deserves it, Maloney looked more comfortable on the left than behind carew and the team had more of a balance. Great result just hope we can really push on UTV |

I don't really have anything against the toon army as a whole, but is it any wonder they over expect achievements when they've got morons in charge getting their hopes up like this? Petrov's performance was shocking, absolutely shocking. Surely MON won't start him again any time soon. I like Carew and Gabby up front, Maloney and Young on the wings, and Harewood coming off of the bench. |

Great result, thought NRC played well today he saved us twice in the first half with great tackles when Olaf had messed up. Second half NRC and Barry totally bossed midfield Barton and Butt were played off the park. Maloney and Young were great and could both stay in those positions. Gardener was good as well and was unlucky not to score. His partnership with Young looked to have some promise I thought. Having said that Keegan is a poor Manager without a tactical clue and Newcastle was poor. Loved singing theres only one Kevin Keegan when his side have just been played off the park. |

Hi lads...fantastic result today. I nearly put a bit of a negative post on here last night but thought better of it. I was basically going to suggest dropping Petrov, Davies and Carson for today's game to be replaced by Maloney, Knight and Taylor respectively, purely based on the totally inept performance at Fulham. I was going to suggest playing Maloney on the right with Harewood and Carew up top in a 4-4-2 and promoting Routledge to the bench so as we could have a look at him if things were going well. However, i'm so glad i didn't send the post because once again, the players and MON have silenced my doubting side and produced the goods. MON's half time team talk and inevitable changes brought on the spirited second half display and we were very worthy winners in the end. We were crap in the first half with little self belief and Petrov hiding as usual, and what Mellberg was playing at on several occasions God only knows ! (i suspect he has one eye on the Italian sunshine already). Gardner filled in for him more than adequately and i was quite surprised just how effective he was today (especially the rockets !) Marlon is really growing on me...who would have thought he would be turning in the performances he is with all the negativity surrounding his transfer. He has shut quite a few people up, including me, and long may it continue...well done son ! Big John was great and everyone involved in the second half deserves a pat on the back. Glad the big guy got his hat trick, nice one Gareth Barry for stepping down from the penalty so he could achieve it. Crowd superb...and rewarded when Carew threw his shirt into the Holte at the end. Which lucky bleeder got that then? Overall i'm well pleased to be a Villa fan tonight and I hope our good form can hold out until the summer when we can kick on again. By the way, couple of questions and please forgive my ignorance but why Webcam Ashley? Has he been spit roasting with his webcam on? Also, what were the words and the significance to Kum Bah Yah this afternoon/ As I say, please forgive my ignorance. UP THE VILLA   |

Cant wait to see the highlights tonight on MOTD surely we must be on first, if not im going to be totally p**sed off. Carew getting a hat trick and im glad GB stepped down to let him take the penaltie, it just shows what the team is like, you dont often see that in other teams in this league, alot of the time you see them fighting over who will take it. Remember the article in the forum about if any Villa players will score a hat trick this season? Oh ye he is called webcam Ashley because basically he got caught wipping his todger out on webcam and it was in the paper. |

We were pretty much bang on but nice to know about the empty seats one etc. My pal's young son went to the game and we asked him when he got home if he knew about the song. Bit of an anthem now really ... very popular in the standing sections back of the holte. Great performance second half today .. i thought we pulled together and really played as a team, everyone doin their particular roles excellently. A special mention for Harewood though ... he yet again was full of desire and hunger and gave Carr and Taylor a horrible second half. Looking forward to goin to the Madejski in a couple of weeks time now ... UTV! SOTC! CABA! We shall not be moved. |

Just watched Match of the Day and came to the following conclusions: Derby 0 Spurs 3... Giles Barnes, no ta. Predictable Spurs performance. West Ham 1 Blues 1... McLeish One win in Eleven? Lame Blues penalty decision. Bowyer sending off bourne from reputation and not incident. Carlton Cole per..lease ! Bolton 0 Portsmouth 1... Matt Taylor for Bolton...s**te Gary Cahill will be a big part of Bolton's future and he nearly scored and assisted today. Diarra's goal for Pompey was offside. Defoe doesn't look any better than our Gabby. Everton 1 Reading 0... Another offside goal from Jaglielka decided the game. Kevin Doyle (our transfer target !) may have played him onside but it's debatable ! Sunderland 2 Wigan 0... Great Andy Reid pass and Daryl Murphy finish for second goal. Wigan a little unlucky but Craig Gordon looks good. Middlesborough 1 Fulham 0... Aliadiere lucky nutmeg type thing and the £12m boy got about ten minutes and didn't kick the ball in earnest ! Onto the other fixture...Aston Villa 4 Newcastle 1. I love typing that !! Joey Barton is a thug and pulled Maloney down in the box, enabling him to then handball the subsequent shot away from harm. Our Ashley does go down a little easily sometimes...referees will soon get wise to this and Joey Barton is a thug. Maloney on the left, Young on the right and Marlene and Carew up top from the start would be good for me next game. Give Gabby a rest and bring in Salifou and Routledge when the time is right and Joey Barton is a thug. MON said tonight that Marlon was "a major influence", John Carew was "superb", our second half display was "monumental !!" but he did not say that Joey Barton was a thug...whch surprised me. Happy days everyone...what aboout playing NRC and Barry in central midfield with the above formation with the emphasis to hit the wingers immediately. That way, if Barry carries the ball forward, NRC drops deep and holds. Alternately if NRC surges forward, Barry holds but with the emphasis on hitting the wingers (glued to the touch line) at all times. Fantastic result. Can't remember the last season, that we put 4 goals in with such regularity. 48 goals so far this season, 5 more than the whole of last season. We are now only behind man utd (49) and arsenal (51) with goals scored. I just wish we didn't concede so early. |

Am I the only one who thinks that MON's subs were to discipline Mellburg and Petrov for their running spat? At one point they were more interested in going at each other than watching the game and it probably spilled over into the dressing-room. Whatever the reason it worked beautifully after a frankly aweful first half display. On MOTD Keegan said 'I don't know what went wrong'-no change there then! |

Penalty on 14 mins turned down barton hand ball - 23 mins another penalty and another Joey Barton moment what a thug cut Young down and still still the ref gave nothing newcastle are a dirty average side, Alan Smith's last league goal nov 2005, 0 in 40 league games. Newcastle fans are dreamers, their side is mid table at best, I think they had some tidy spells but their defence is shocking. Why Viduka never got a run out is beyond me, as I mentioned above Alan Smith is not going to get goals for you. Good second half display from the lads, again lethal at set pieces and converted our chances well, if the ref had been to specsavers you could haev added another 2 goals to that tally. Another pleasing thing was the performance of both Gardner and Reo Coker, Coker has had a lot of stick from everyone including myself over the past few weeks but he didn't do much wrong yesterday. Also have to mention Harewood, another great team motivating performance from him, he gives 100% every time he gets on and would be hard done to not to get a start against Reading. Petrov has to get dropped, utter sh**e again, why he starts is beyond me… UTV! |
