Delfouneso signs pro contract and links up with first team at Fulham

I'm not sure how many of you keep track with the Reserves but we've got some talented youngsters in the side that sits on top of the FA Premier Reserve League (North).

One of them is Nathan Delfouneso and he travelled down to Fulham with the first team squad on Sunday. The way we played I wished he'd made the bench after all. He was given the squad number 14 and today signed his first professional contract, which will run until June 2010.

He's been one of the key players for the Reserves and Under-18's this season and could be the next player to make the breakthrough. He scored a hat-trick for England Under-17's in October.

Now that Sam Williams has disappeared off the radar (quite possibly released - the club don't often tell us when non-First Team players are released) and with Gabby not being an out and out striker, Delfouneso could offer something different to the other youngsters.

He's promising, but let's not pile the pressure on him just yet.

Darren Byfield, Stefan Moore and now Luke Moore were all exceptional prospects, but they've all proved that taking that next step is a big one (although I still hold some hope for Luke Moore).

Ai he prob is quite good, but lets not do the typical villa thing an make him out to be the best thing since sliced bread! Another point lets not start jibing gabby for his "so-called" poor performances. One thing i've noticed bout some villa fans is we have a tendency to start writing off players the minute they go a little bit stale. This delfouneso lad might be good but as of yet i wouldn't even put him in the same league as Gabby Agbonlahor. Give him a chance but talk of him starting against newcastle is laughable. Talk about chucking the young lads straight in the deep end!!!

Watch out for Delfoneso! I've know someone that works at Selfridges in Birmingham who has played with Delfoneso, and raves about him! Nice to see some local talent coming through..

@Paul E,
Luke Moore? He has great ability but lazy, like his brother really. Dont know why he still plays for us to be honest, shouldve sold him and bought the youngster Steadman and possibly someone else.

MYLESMORRIS Looks like Gab is the only worry.

O'Neill is likely to be without Agbonlahor, who withdrew from the England squad after suffering a hamstring injury against Fulham, for the match against Newcastle United on Saturday. It would be the first time in O'Neill's reign that Agbonlahor has not figured, having played in all of last season's 42 games and all 28 this term.
“He's had the scans and there's something showing up so at the moment, you'd have to say he'd be a serious doubt for Saturday,” O'Neill said, before confirming that Curtis Davies, the defender, who was in Fabio Capello's preliminary squad of 30 players but pulled out with a knee injury, is making good progress and should feature in training today. Martin Laursen (heel) and Stiliyan Petrov (concussion) pulled out of the Denmark and Bulgaria squads respectively but hope to be fit for Saturday's match when Villa, who could have moved into fourth place in the Barclays Premier League last Sunday, will be seeking their first win in four games
