| He's obviously available and I doubt it's because we can't afford him - maybe MON just doesn't rate him? |

Luke Its a hammer blow that we havent went for defoe in my opinion, hes wasted on a mediocre team like pompey, you must be right, we musnt have made a bid for him, Luke, honestly, does your heart tell you that come mid night, there will be some new players at the villa? |

MON was probably not interested in him. He seems to be looking for players who, 1) want to come to Villa, 2) add quality to the existing squad, 3) are young enough to build a v. good team for over 5 years. He clearly likes British players but has said that nationality isn't necessarily a prerequisite. If the rumour was true that MON enquired about him in the Summer and he said,'no thanks', then maybe he fails on point 1 and won't feature again on MONs wish list. I think that this is pretty fair. I would love to have seen Defoe play at Villa but I don't want journeymen, I would prefer players who want to play for us. Defoes loss I think, I'm sure Villa would be more attractive to him that Portsmouth but perhaps the door was shut. |

You still have time to bid for him...but maybe the price is a bit steep for you. As for Pompey boy who asks if your higher than Spurs in the table...it is not where you are now...it is where you'll be come May! Are you going to Wembley in the League Cup Final...no, are you in the UEFA Cup...No....are you likely to be next year...No! I like Portsmouth and Harry Redknapp....but to come out with a stupid comment midway through the season is rubbish. If he signs for you...then fair play and I hope he does well as he is a born finisher who should be in the England squad and used more when he is! |

| It seems that Defoe isn't of interest then! I've never been too sure about him myself - would have gone along with it though. I'm not convinced he's the right fit for our team. If he's really that good why does he keep getting overlooked.I know we could say the same about Routledge but I suspect he only cost a fraction of what Defoe is moving on for. |

MON will not sign a striker today, its a disgrace, Defoe is better than Harewood and Moore, we need a top striker badly, if he is ready to go to Pompey ofcourse he would come to us! I think we dont have the money, thats the truth |

| Yeah spot on Villadad, MON wants players who want to be here and fight for their place, not big time charlies like Defoe who always seems to moan and stamp his feet when he is substituted. Like in the Man Citeh game he was subbed after they had a man sent off, and he bitches and throws his arms around, I mean Berbatov or Defoe? No question is it |

there are still a few hours left chaps and rate the manager at the end of the season - not when he's sitting in 5th place |

Criticism of MON's transfer dealings are ridiculous, obviously. Villa have the money (Carson, Young), but MON obviously doesn't want to be a chequebook manager. It's that simple, I think. He'll pay when he thinks it's the right buy, but he seems not to be terribly distraught over Defoe. Perhaps he'll make a bid. With 5 players on Capello's first squad, you'd think Defoe would choose Villa over Pompey. But perhaps he's afraid of having to work like he'll know he has to under MON. |

MON is apparently in London at the moment trying to secure a loan deal for Bent. The rumour for Boateng is maybe true, with reports suggesting a fee of around £4million has already been struck with Tottenham. Before twelve o clock tonight expect Leicester full-back Richard Stearman and Crystal Palace wonderkids Sean Scannell, an Irish youth international, and Victor Moses, an English international, who would both act as replacements for Moore. No world class signings but remember the five year plan??? Those world class signings will come once we are established in Europe. Once he has found the players for the positions are are in need of which I believe he will, Europe (UEFA CUP)this season will be a realistic prospect. |

| Stevievilla sack oneil you got to be kidding . He is buying hungry players who have a point to prove who dont break the bank. We have team who play nice football and want to play for each other. We have no egos in the team no so called superstars. I think we will finish in a European spot and that will give us something to build on. If you look over at say Liverpool who do have superstars in there side they dont seem to have so much team spirit. Let Oneil do his job and judge him at the end of the season. He has assembled a team that is hungry and very hard to beat it will take time to step up to the next level. Defoe is a good little player but maybe he lacks the hunger that oneil wants he seems happy to sit on the bench at spurs and enjoy the bright lights of London. |

| Defoe's Mrs would be enough to put me off signing him. He's decent but I wouldn't get too upset. Let's face it, most English strikers are crap. We need to look abroad - scouts would help! |

| im thinkin that is that. if we sign some players then great, if we dont, then its roll our sleeves up an keep the momentum goin until may. lets hope we hav more of the same luck wit injuries, and still, there is back up for gab n ash, and another option on both flanks, makin us less predictable. |
