Wayne Routledge, according to Sky, is a done deal

Now, this wouldn't be the first time today SkySports got it wrong, so you decide if they are or not by clicking here.

What they're basically saying is we've paid £1.25mn. for the services of the right sided midfielder or winger as he should be know, I guess.

There was a lot of praise for this lad a few years ago but when he moved to Spurs he broke his foot in his very first game and some Spurs fans say he has never really had a proper opportunity at White Hart Lane. Hopedully he'll get one at Villa.

But I think it will ultimately turn out to be some good business. If you factor in it's not really that much money and Martin O'Neill has a tendency to make average players good and good players great, then really it's not bad business and does add balance to the midfield.

Questions will now be raised about who plays in the middle and seeing as this is only a little more than what we paid Celtic for Maloney - will he get a proper run in the team or will he be considered a bit part player like the former Celtic star?

More tomorrow hopefully - expect confirmation from the club on Friday.

Good aquisition IMO you need strength in depth and at 1.25 mil you can go alot more wrong. He has not had a chance to prove himself yet and if there is anyone who is able to get the best out of a player it is MON. Oh yes and hes english! Bonus!

Just watched a clip on that yank keeper. I don't think he's got any hands. It looks like he's just stickin his gloves over the stump ends of his arms. The geezer couldn't catch a F**kin cold.
Carson please.

As has been said, good business.
At best he'll be good, at worst he'll be backup.

That's cheap, an average Championship player costs that much.
Let's hope he comes good.

What's happened to Salifou though?

Let's give the lad a chance, we badly need a right winger..hope he can stay fit ans show us what he's capable of. At 1.25 million, on an 18 month contract, it's a clever piece of business. Good point by badger..what's happened to Salifou? I'd love to see him play at some point

Could turn out to be a decent signing but it does remind me of Maloney's signing last year. Hopefully he gets a decent run in the side to prove himself. After all we do need some width down the right wing and he certainly offers that. Hopefully we'll see a striker and right back join yet in the next 24hrs or so. We're still being linked with Chimbonda but I can't see that happening since he's playing tonight. I get the feeling we wont have signed any RB by midnight tomorrow but I hope I'm wrong. What's going on with the Boateng story. Was it totally made up and is there no chance of him coming? I'm really confused by the whole thing.

Good signing. Routledge has something to prove, he's young, English, and has played with some of our lads in the Under 21 squad-this is all good.

Great bit of business, will be a good player i reckon. On a side not, man city drew and liverpool lost tonight, and at time of writing Everton are 0-0, looks like a nice set of results for us

I remember watching Routledge when he was with Palace, and he seemed quite a prospect then. Of course a few stale moves later and I would have forgotten he was even still in the league. But I think Villa is just the place for him. He's got pace, he's a winger, and he'll definitely get the training he needs.

As for Guzan, I don't think for a minute that MON is planning on having him replace Carson. First off, you gotta think MON knows what the MSL is like; also, he's only 22. This has back-up keeper written all over it. Train him, give him some pitch time, stow him away for later years a la Almunia. Granted, he bought Keller as his number one(another US keeper) several years ago at Leicester, but that was only after he'd proved himself after a stint at Millwall. I'm pretty sure Carson is staying. That said, I have no idea why we haven't done so already.

Just seen that Cahill has gone to Bolton. It's a bit disappointing, I personally feel he's a better defender than Knight. This has got to mean that players are coming tomorrow since O'Neill has been saying it's his priority to increase the numbers in the squad.

I am pleased with the signing especially for that price. I think we needed a right winger more so than a right back. It will give us balance. We have the viking til the end of the season and he can play rb and is solid defensivly but we were lacking going forward. What i mean is Routledge has gotta be a better option than playing Petrov on the right wing or anyone else for that matter. £1.25m... BARGAIN!!!
