Mellberg signs for Juventus, but stays for the season

Olof Mellberg has signed for Juventus in a deal that will likely see him in finish out his top flight professional career in Italy.

The good news, if there really can be with us losing a very good player, is he'll be staying with us until the end of the season. I can already see the Viking hats and comedy beards been sold out for the Wigan match at Villa Park in May.

Now, while I could be jumping the gun, because it isn't yet confirmed by our club site it is on the Juventus web site, so I'm taking it as a done deal.

Mellberg was happy with signing, saying "I'm very happy about this agreement: this experience in Italy will be an important one, in a prestigious club and in one of the most important Leagues in the world. Now I must end the season in the best possible way with Aston Villa, but I really can't wait to join Juventus and give my best with the black and white shirt."

You all know my views on this but it appears that Mellberg wanted to go and if we're all honest, who can blame him. So, a little something in Swedish; tack för minnena, which roughly translated means, thanks for the memories.

id be even more gutted if we were in for woodgate, gabby slaughtered him for pace and even strength up there, he's done as a top defender

as for olly you cant blame him, half of our team would jump at the chance of playing for juve (imo half the prem would), now we just need to get into europe and let fates conspire...

One word, "Routledge" if sources are to be believed this is a done deal and he will be unvieled and villa park later today, oh good lord smilies/sad.gif

My mate used to be a pallace fan and remembers when he was good, i,m, not too sure, what do you guys think?

Also i am pinning my hopes on landing Risse before the week is out, i still think he could be on the way but where the hell would he play? Boumas doing an excellent job at left back although Risse is definately the better player going forward.

On top of your beards and hats ... bring your boots lads ... Bolton have just had a fee for Cahill accepted. We could set a record soon for the only team able to name their starting line up on one hand!!! smilies/grin.gif

Don't know if anyone saw the evening mail last friday ... but the word is that O'Neills got a list of seven to bring in during the last week of the window??!!

Believe it when i see it!!

cheers ollie and good luck. he goes down as a villa legend for me and i don't blame him moving on one bit. i hope it goes well for him.

if anyone's interested, it's now on the club site along with a clicky to his club profile. the player profile pages have the video sequences shown on the big screen before games.... i couldn't help going through the whole squad. gabby's made me laugh and craig garder looks like a serial killer!!! lol

is it just me that thinks those video sequences are pretty stupid? (although not as bad as the new name calling at arsenal)

and also it seems like bolton have had a fee agreed for cahill, prob £4.5mil, i just hope MON got a few aces up his sleeve (and no wayne f'kin routlidge is not an ace)
