It's confirmed. Gary Cahill can leave the club if the valuation is met. I'll be very disappointed to see him leave, if he does leave, but if the decision is his then it will ultimately be his mistake.
Martin O'Neill has given permission to Birmingham City to talk to the player and he's had offers from other clubs - none of which have been accepted.
O'Neill told Football365 "A number of teams have not only enquired about Gary, but a number of clubs have put offers in - none of which have been acceptable to us or have been accepted by us. Birmingham City, I can confirm, have made an offer but I have not accepted any of the offers because they do not meet the valuation."
I'm not going to ask why we're reading this on a site other than the club site, but I'm not surprised.
So, now it's a case of a club meeting the valuation and Gary Cahill moving on. I'd have hoped he'd like to stay and fight for a place but if he'd rather play Championship football than be part of something, where his opportunity will eventually come, then that is his choice.
It would also be nice for Martin O'Neill to say that he's not for sale, via the official club site, and tell us that he wants Cahill to stay - but, it's the players these days that control it and I suspect Cahill, or his agent, has instigated it.
