WEBFLASH AH AH: Gary Cahill allowed to talk to Birmingham City
Written by Damian

It's not that we seem to learn all the news from other outlets before we learn it from the club that annoys me, but the lack of respect that the act demonstrates. Why do people at the club tell other sources before telling their fans?

This time, we find out that Gary Cahill is allowed to talk to Birmingham City. I'm not sure on the general feeling on this matter so we've started a poll to the right.

So many good things have happened at the club since Mr Lerner took control, so many in fact that I'm not going to list them all, but one thing that hasn't kicked on is the news and how that news is delivered.

Why do the newspapers get to publish pictures of the kit before it's on the official site? Why do we hear from the papers that deals are agreed for players before it's on the official site? Why do we have an official site that is pretty much the exact same as the old one with a few colour changes?

And, yes I am having a joke at the club site when I put 'webflash' in the title. I might as well publish something that says webflash, Jesus walks on water. If Cahill was allowed to talk to Blues we should have been told, it only takes a minute to write something and publish it.

It's bloody annoying. What would be more annoying is if Gary Cahill was allowed to leave. Every club he has played at on loan love him and when he has played for Villa I've seen nothing but huge bags of potential and it looks like a club is willing to pay £4mn. for him.

I don't understand it but I'm not paid to manage, I only write opinion. Please vote in the poll - these results will definitely be published very soon.

Poll Update: 10 minutes into the poll and over 88% don't want him to go ...

More updates: A blues forum is linking here saying vote to sell - so results wont be a true reflection, but please still vote as they'll only be able to register 20 or so votes.

Not really that bothered if Cahill leaves. If you look at the quality of team that hopes to sign him then they are all well below us. If he was that good MON would have him in our first team and the big 4 would be sniffing around, but thats not the case. I think that we are now after a better quality player and I for one would pick Davies ahead of Cahill. That said I dont believe he is any worse than Zat Knight so 4 or 5 million would appear to be about the right amount if we sell him.

On the other hand we could put in a buy back clause and have him back with more experience and at a cheaper price from a championship side next year.....thats if he goes to the noses.

I like Cahill, but it seems like he's fourth on the team sheet, so it's possible he just wants to leave to play somewhere where he'll actually get into games. I agree with those who have said that the club wouldn't leave unless they have another defender coming in. (i.e. that Romanian guy) Of course, that's what we said in the summer window, and we have the smallest squad in the EPL, so what do I know?
Not much.

Cant really understand selling him when the squad is so small. The only reason I could see for selling him would be to raise money for buying other people, but then are'nt we meant to have a Billionaire in control ??

i like cahill i think he is a great player, cant forget his amazing goal against the scum. at the end of the day if he was what we needed oneill wouldnt sell him. im completely behind every decision he makes because he knows what hes doing and i dont, so if cahill has to go whatever. you also have to think about behind there scenes there could be loads of things going down for all we know cahill might hate the villa, oneill knows what he is doing.

I think its ridiculous, I trust MON, but letting a young defender with such potential go - especially to the S>CU>M - is stupid.

I'd rather we sent Zat Knight!!!

I think he's very talented and we're potentially only an injury or a suspension away from needing him in the first team. Unless we sign someone better first I don't see the point in selling, especially for £4 million - I think he's worth £6 million, given his age.

Oh - and I completely agree about the official site. It lets the side down, so to speak.

Has Ellis really left Villa Park? Players leaving no idea if anyones going to replace them let alone strengthen the squad. I agree letting players go out on loan but have to question the logic of letting them go over to that mob over at Small Heath. Mind you saw Ridgewell, Cahill and another player buying sweets (yes sweets) in Woolworths in Tamworth last season prior to going to an away fixture so obviously players talk and no doubt Ridgewell may be telling him how great life is there you know small pond big fish is that the expression I'm looking for?

i cant believe MON is even thinking of letting him go to the scum, i like him, i think he has potential. 4M is a reasonable price, but he cant go to them. just let him go on loan and get more experience.
will always remember that quality goal against the scum.

im sure that cahill is a half decent player but as a blue nose i'm against signing this player as weve had enough rubbish from villa village!! WE DO NOT WANT THIS PLAYER!!!

please dont sell him. cahill over knight any day of the week. i think he is a great player and if goes will not be because he wants to go. MON please dont let him go. every game i have watched looks like a potential future england centre back. sell knight or use as cover for mellberg until he goes then assess the situation then.
joint 4th.
dafoe, chimbonda and would love to see dica at the villa. we need a great attacking midfielder that we really lack.

ah I'm not to bothered about letting him go , it wont effect us much if hes playing in the championship next season , no way is he the next Laursen , if that was the case there would be a few good clubs looking to sign him , ya never know he might even score for us in the Derby Like secret agent Ridgewell so kindly did!, i disagree with the Doug Ellis statement made above , Ive never been happier to be a villa fan and most of it is down to Randy Lerner and Martin O'neill , our club was taken over by a billionaire who leaves the football side of things to the manager , what more do ya want ?? a little more Communication ? yea fair enough , maybe its in the 5 year plan! i'm happy to wait the five years! ............. as frustrating as that is smilies/tongue.gif

Can you imagine if he was a championship player, putting in the performances that he did earlier this season, and we came in for him. We'd be held to ransome, and we would have to pay 10mil, exactly the same as Curtis Davies. But because we're in the prem, and he is behind two players playing great football, he's worth 4mil?! I'm sorry, we don't need to sell...he's under contract...we need as many players as we can get hold of...and he's young, potentially the next John Terry. What is going on, i'll never know? And the club site thing is a joke...other sides are told when bids have been lodged, and when players are talking to clubs...we dont. We have to read some crappy hack telling us that Defoe is talking with us...only to read in the E and S that he hasn't. So we're constantly clicking onto SSN desperate to hear something. It's pathetic, and it's beginning to get on my tits.

It's because we're private owned there's no public share holding in Villa that's why they don't need to disclose information as to potential targets and so forth. But Cahill is a good player definitely worth keeping for another season and see what happens.

For f**k sake!!! DONT sell him!! Yes...none of the big clubs are chasing him and why not? If the club played him every saturday (or sunday...monday...wednesday...u know what i mean) I bet my house they would because he's FULL of potential. If we bought Zat for 4 mills why the 'ell should we sell Cahill for just 4 mills!!!??? Give me a break! SOTC

Damien, agree with you 100% on the above. Cahill should not be sold ESPECIALLY to the blues. When did we become their feeder club? Our academy dosnt exist to service their first team and we certainly dont need the 4mill. I'm fuming tbh. Hes better than Knight and is a great defender

And the OS is crap and very inefficient in fulfilling its function of keeping fans informed and up to date!

Could rant on for ages but ill leave it there!

Back in the 70's (sounds like uncle Albert - "during the war…") clubs like Real Madrid bought players just to keep them from playing for their opposition, even if the players sat on the bench all the time. Now that there is more than one mega rich club in the world this is no longer possible, BUT, there are some things that you should never do; sell a bright prospect (developed by yourselves) to an arch-rival. I note that MON has given Brum permission to talk to Cahill, that's all. It gives the message to Cahill that his own wishes will be given a hearing. MON has always wanted players with desire to perform for him and the club. Man-management is a fine art, especially when you consider that some of your key employees can be quite fragile emotionally (and intelllectually). I trust our manager to know what he's doing.

It's good to see KK (and hair) back. He's one of the few characters in the game. Along with Quasimodo as assistant must make Newcastle the ugliest club in the prem. smilies/cheesy.gif

If we just look at the overhead scissor kick he scored was it last season to show just what natural ability he has. I can't see Zat pulling that one off. We cannot let him leave, especially when there is still uncertainty over our other defenders. Are we going to sell him for $3m then buy someone not as good for $5m? Almost all the time we hear" We have the smallest squad........." WE cannot sell, and it is now the 18th(in Australia anyway) and no new signings? Get them in now so they can play against the likes of Liverpool. I hate this transfer time, it's all waiting. All our targets should of been lined up before Jan 1st so we could sign them straight away.I do believe in MON and love the direction the club is going but it's his transfer delays that pull my hair out

cahill is probably one of the best defenders to come through the villa ranks in years, he has got potential and at such a young age so why do we want to sell him especially to our closest rivals
