Bill Howell predicts the future - Henrik Larsson on loan
Written by Luke
Friday, 11 January 2008

Bill Howell, Brummie man of mystery, has looked into his crystal ball and announced that Henrik Larsson is set to join Villa for the rest of the season on loan.

This is not the first time ol' Bill has predicted a signing at Villa, although due to his previous inane ramblings I have forgotten who it was.

Larsson is probably still class at 36-years-old and I think he could be the cutting edge upfront we need.

However, we still need a younger striker to accompany our attack - Larsson on his own would not be enough.

Until I see WEBFLASH: Larsson Signs on NewsNow I'll be treating this as a rumour, although a bit more likely to happen than if it were in the bible of truth The Sun.

we cant keep signing ex celtic players who can only play for a season, poor old sutton and agathe, we need young blood,i dont know if everyone will agree with me but i dont think we need a striker, with gabby/carew/young/maloney we have enough scorers, dony forget laursen , i think we need a midfielder and the obvious right back. we dont need another old age pensioner p front, were in 7th place, lets kick on from our best start to a season in 10 years

He's better than Marlon Harewood and was great for Man Yoooo last season.

Stevanfaa - we definitely need a striker. Gabby is scoring but all our goals are coming from other places but upfront.

There is no harm in bringing Larsson in on loan. If he is the only option then I'll be p1ssed off but if he's part of a number of players coming in we can't moan. We need a bigger squad and more depth.

I think he'd be a good addition. He's got real quality and could be our super sub.

Bill Howell is stupid and s**t, we shouldn't be listening to that oaf. Forget larson, if we need a striker it has to be someone who's still got the legs to compete, Doyle will do fine if that wasn't all lies again. Jamie Milner is what we need. It doesn't matter is he costs 15 mil just do it MON

He's a great player and by all means bring him in if he's a back up player. But at 36 you've got to question what his work rate will be yes he was good at United but look at the quality he was surrounded by hardly the same standards here is it ?. But RB Should be the priority and RW or a LW to switch young to the right. Plus Henriks contract at his club has ran out so he'd be an official signing for us not a loan.

Another way this could be happening is he'll come in as a Player/Coach, Play for 6 months then become a youth team or first team striking coach.

Think it would be a great signing. Yes, we do need to strengthen in other areas, and i am sure we will, but Larsson's quality is proven, despite his age. He is a natural goal scorer with bags of experience, something we are crying out for.

this might have some truth as larsson has been seen in england at heathrow, the speculation however was linking him to man utd. would be a step back not foward.

on the pee me lord are you nuts, Larsson is a legend. him and Carew up front will be lethal, Young one wing Gabby the other! Oh my days! Not to mention the things he can teach the likes of Gabby and Young and the youth players
That is not to say we wont sign Defoe, he will definately be a villa player by 31.7.08. His missus looking for houses in stratford and warwick. That source is central tonight.
Up the Villa!!

Great signing he has class and the experience to take us into the uefa cup - another master stroke by o'neill I think. He has a cutting edge that none of our current strikers have.

We need an old head in the team, we have so many youngsters and the amount they could learn of someone like larson would be tremendous. Whats the problem with this deal if it happens? MON isnt stupid im sure he knows that he needs long term options too but maybe he sees this as a valuable addition to COMPLIMENT what we have and what he is planning on bringing in on top.

Some of you lot really need wake up a bit. Larsoon is quality and would get goals pass on valuable help to the younger players.

If he was good enough for barcelons 2 seasons ago and man u last season, then hes good enough for us now.

This can only be good news. It adds experience and quality to the squad at little or no risk, and provides much needed back up for the strikers in case of injury. I'm sure this won't be the only signing, but would be a shrewd move if it happens.

could be a good signing if its with another ...... e.g. larsson and defoe.

BUT ... if O'Neill thinks a 36 year old is going to solve all of our goalscoring problems he is sadly deluded!

stavenfaa said:

36- he is 36, we need young blood, i am not saying he is crap far from it, but why bring in a player that will last 6 months, all our progress will be ruined if he signs, thenn we lose him mellberg and laursen, we would be worse off then we are know, fair point on harewood, i just think we need to strenghten other areas before upfront

I would welcome him on the short term. i think we need a striker like him to give us a different option. we lack a bit of quality up front in technical terms, are play is all about power pace flick on,s etc. and i think we are starting to struggle to score of late , maybe because teams realize that if they drop off a bit we are quite easy to read and defend against. someone like larrson could change are game plane , playing balls into his feet and linking the midfield , a bit of guile , quality. then in the summer get and younger version ie gudjonnson(barcelona)
January 11, 2008

McGrathforPM said:

I don't think anybody is suggesting that he is to be a long term solution but if it is just to last us until the end of the season before buying a a long term replacement, why not. remember that in the summer we'd be able to pick up quality players at lower prices than the overinflated January sales. Plus with any luck we'll have European football to dangle as a carrot as well.

Why the hell not, bring him in. Nothing to loose.

If we could just get at least a right back and a right sided midefielder as well though, that would be nice.

McGrathforPM hit the nail on the head. If we bring in Larason till the end of the season, he will be able to help us make a big push for the UEFA cup spots. If we succeed, then we will have more pulling power to attract higher quality players in the summer with the promise of european football. Plus, Gabby, Young and Carew would learn a lot of him. Hope it happens!!!!

i thought we were basing our success on young talent ... an exciting team for the future.

Instead of splashin out an extra couple of million on a striker we will have for years, he wants to be tight and bring in a has been on the cheap!!!!
January 11, 2008

McGrathforPM said:

... and if this was to be a permanent signing then I'd agree with you but as it is only to be a load until the summer I don't think that applies.

We certainly do need another striker but it's hardly our top priority. With Carew, Gabby, Luke, Harewood and Larsson we ought to be reasonably set for the 17 games that are left this season. Then bring a big name in in the summer to replace Larsson.

At the end of the day though, it's more than likely that this will turn out to be total rubbish anyway and was never even on the cards.

AlexB has it spot on.

On the pee - I dispair, are you really that narrow minded that you can't see the benefit Larsson would bring. Maybe you should go and join our neolithic neighbours in Small Heath - they'd agree with you.

To have that sort of professionalism, class and talent around the youngsters we have will only be a benefit. O'Neil is a lot more switched on that you give him credit for and I very much doubt it would be 'instead of' or, any sort of diversion tactic not to spend Randys money. He has gone on record to say that he isn't phased by spending big money for the right player. I think he's proved that with an unproved youngster from Watford.

So you don't want any players who seem to be past their peak 'On the Pee', you only want the youth pushing forward? - Where would that leave McGrath when he wasn't needed at Man U? Merson? Do you want me to go on?

It's all about blend and Larsson only adds in my humble.

He'd be a very useful player for half the season, could well get us to a European place, then we can use the lesser experienced players in that Comp.

Just watching a replay of the Arsenal v Tottenham game. Jefoe has just came on with a daft haircut and missed what must be called a sitter and then Hoyte puts in a brave block a minute later, 2 players we have been linked with.
Get Larson in and a RB, sort M Laursen's contract(essential) out and when we have secured European spot that will open so many more doors in reference to quality and world class players.

Have a look at the below link, very funny
