Villa's newest fan - Tom Hanks
Written by Luke
Thursday, 10 January 2008

I was pretty surprised when opening my copy of the Metro this morning to see Tom Hanks with an Aston Villa Football Club scarf outstretched on the red carpet to his latest film's premiere in London.

It's not too significant but it's been a slow January news-wise so I'm clutching at straws.

I'll be surprised if anyone has read down this far, but I'll carry on anyway. It's good exposure here and in the US for someone of his profile to be showing off his affection for the Villa and might get some people on the bandwagon. I don't want to be a Chelsea or Man Utd but it's these sort of fans that bring much needed cash into the club.

You never know when a sugar daddy owner like Randy is going to do one so it's good to try and get ourselves as much income as possible. You never know, the next owner could be a Ridsdale.

Right, I'm off to watch NewsNow for a few hours to see if we sign anybody. Until we play Reading there's not much else happening.

Yeah there was something on midlands today, in a interview he said he liked Aston Villa because of the name lol. Maybe randy can get him a ticket and he can be a guest of honour (lke sly stallone was for Everton) and help raise the clubs profile along with prince William! UTV

I watched his interview with BBC Breakfast news. He said something along the lines of....

"Some people think that Aston Villa are going to win the Premiership this season; it doesn't mean it's going to happen!"

...and when asked if he supported Villa...

"I just love the name. There are clubs that have strong names like Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea, but (adopting posh English accent) Aston Villa?! I mean, which suburb of ancient Rome are they from?!?"

Not his exact words, but it was something along those lines.

nigel kennedy used to ait behind me for years with his kid in the trinity rd. he had the most annoying voice and was glad when he moved. also the countless village idiots that would suck up to him when they were lucky/unlucky enough to sit next to him was tedious too.
