We were pretty terrible in the last quarter - Spurs constantly pressured us at the back and controlled the middle of the park. Defoe grabbed a sublime volley that was a well-deserved equalizer - but they didn't do enough throughout the game to record a win. Gabby and Ashley were sharp as always, but our midfield was strangely quiet. Nigel didn't really get involved, Petrov was largely the same and Barry had a lot of running to do - being dominated in the middle led to the last-gasp Spurs offensives. Maloney came on and looked Luke missed a sitter but I'd rather see him playing alongside Gabby than Harewood. As much as speculation is rife, I can't see O'Neil letting Moore go when he's building a young English team - him and Gabby are both future international standards. We missed Carew, frankly. The creativity was left largely to Ashley who had a pretty difficult game playing against Lennon. A win's a win, and they don't come much bigger than Spurs. |

that wil teach spurs for even darin to dream about comin back from 4-1 down las time. the amount of chances we had to make life easier for ourselves, and fail to put them away - that is stil a constant worry. laursen n luke cuda had one each. gotta be sharper. cant wait for jc to return, then hopefully this month wil bring sum top players. new year, one victory. start as we mean to go on. |

| I Watched that game and it's clear we need a CM who take control of the middle. Reo-Coker apart from a few decent tackles he did nothing. Petrov is being played down the wing and looks totally out of position at times. Barry is trying too hard to hold together a midfield that's not working in the middle and it's making him look bad nothing like the barry we seen a while back. MON should drop Reo-Coker and put petrov in the middle and either play young down the right and maloney on the left or sign a RW. Luke Moore should have been taken off sooner than he was, to me he didn't look up for the match and missed two golden opportunity's. Our defence was solid until about the 75th min then they started to panic and swipe at the ball. |

A good win - perhaps it wasn't as slick as we can be but we just never give up. Laursen did a great job on Berbatov - Davies will only get better playing alongside him. Apart from the goal they had one decent shot that Carson saved in the first half. I did think we missed Carew - someone to hold the ball up front - he would have caused Spurs load of problems - and Moore did well enough anyway. I think Reo-Coker is doing the business for us - he protects the back 4 and breaks up the oppositions possession in the midfield. Up the Villa. |

WOW ! I saw the game on television and i must say what a superb performance by Martin Laursen. Unbelievable how he tackled, headed and fought the hole 90 minutes. Please MON offer him a new contract and a wish for the new year directly addressed to god: Please keep Martin injury-free! PS: UP THE VILLA, and a happy new year to everyone. Greetz from Germany. |

| 6 points from 6 is deserved but really important- when the team can do this (nick winners) on demand we'll really know that we have made some progress,, progress that we havent looked like making for some years. its an inspiring sign that the manager will risk taking off a defender to chance maloney at the end. obviously if we held the ball to deny teams an equaliser in the first place we'd be a much more mature side, but we've made some good steps and the next few moves are reasonably apparent,, a good time to hit the transfer window methinks. |

| Laursen was top class as usual, we have to keep him along with Mellberg. As for the game, first half was all Villa. 2nd half Spurs came back into it and looked more threatening, but as soon as they equalised we went back into attack and Laursen demonstrated that he is one of the best in the air with set pieces and grabbed the winner, adding to his now 5 goal tally this season. |

Was at the game, we fully deserved the win...we should have buried them in the first half! I agree there were a few nervy moments in the second half but that was expected when Tottenham started to get into it a bit more. Hopefully we keep up our form and continue playing good football. It would be nice to have a proper right winger though, because everything seems to be coming from the left with Young, we probably need someone to compliment him. Hope M.O.N can bring in at least 2 players minimum, and maybe 1 on loan and add that little bit extra to the squad. |

I realise my attitude is somewhat petty, but from all the spouting a lot of spurs supporters did in particular at the beginning of the season, i feel pretty happy with the results we've had over them. I hope this season so far has served a little humble pie to our more vocal rivals. As nail biting as it was today, great great result. Despite what i think of spurs supporters, their league position is not accurate to the talent of their team. We've done well and deserved to be where we are in the league. I'm excited to see where we'll go from here. |

| Its strange how we all see the same game yet read it differently, I thought in the first half we dominated the midfield and controlled the game. In the second half we still created the best chance, for Luke, although they came into it. In the end I think we had 10 or 12 shots and scored twice they had about 4 and scored 1 if Carew had been playing we could have had a bigger win. |

Well im so glad we beat them. Start off with the game, we dominated the first half and honestly if Carew had been playing the score wouldnt have been 2-1 it would have probably been about 4/5-0. Spurs are shocking at defending corners and free kicks. Luke Moore missed a few good chances. In the second half Spurs came at us and tbh i dont think anyone thought they would do any different. The got their equaliser through a great Defoe volley and i thought we had thrown away 2 points. But we came back and got the winner through Laursen. Thats 3 goals against Spurs this season for him and I think that really says something about their poor defence rather than his goal scoring talents. I think this is one of those matches where we can see how we have improved from last season. If this had been last season we would have drawn the game. It was made alot sweeter by the Spurs fans. There are so many arrogant Spurs fans on the net who all gave Villa no chance at all. They think just because they have spent millions they are better. Well we are the ones competeting for UEFA cup football whilst you are down in 12th. Some of the Spurs fans said they would blow us away 3/4-0 and this just really p**sed me off. Even after the game some of them said that "Villa didnt really pressure us at all" thats why we dominated the first half and had multiple chances. We had a higher % of possesion overall and more shots and corners. Im also very pleased with the fact that we picked up no bookings today. Just another thing, here is some dickhead on 606's views on Villa. "But unlucky Spurs, you really deserved something from that game just unlucky not to convert many of the chances. and i really think Villa are becoming a long ball team and just lumping it at every opportunity up the field. I also feel ashley youngs been ruined by Villa , at Watford he was a key man and was almost a heartbeat of the team. He doesnt get enough of the ball and i feel hes in the wrong team, Ashley Young would of benefited better by joining a team like Man City or West Ham." This guy is a Chelsea fan and started off by saying that Spurs were dominant and we were boring. He talks so much s**te it really p**sed me off. How are Villa a long ball team? We have played so really good stuff this season and have been praised for it. Chelsea are known for their boring style of play most of the time and that big girl Ballack is a disgrace. I see he went over 3/4 times again today. How this guy can say that Ashley Young has not improved under us I dont know. He obviously knows nothing about football. Everyone has been saying how well Young has been playing and how he has come along with us. Im sorry about the rant guys but arrogant fans who talk s**te really p**s me off. Anyway thats 3 points, into the top 6 (for the time being) I hope City lose tomrrow and it will stay like this. UTV |

A very solid, professional effort. Villa did sit back a bit in the second, and Spurs were doing their part, but they didn't really threaten much until the pinball fell to Defoe, who finished brilliantly. Robinson's gaffe went to teammate, whereas the ball on Defoe's goal comes right out to Berbatov's head. But the real key was how Villa started...They didn't let Spurs get their tails up, and thoroughly outplayed them. It almost all came to naught, but we did get the 1-0 lead we deserved at the very least. Spurs were constantly disrupted and outworked in the 1st, never got settled. This is what Villa did with Chelsea in the first outing, and they produced it again today. Spurs really were more than a bit lucky to be at 1-1. And for all the goals they have in them, Villa's defensive performance was top notch. A little nervous toward the end, but for all that, Spurs only had two good chances, and took one. Moore was dreadful, I thought. Given the finishing displayed today, I'd much rather have Defoe. The chance Moore missed in the 2nd was a certain goal. If we could add a proven finisher, Villa would be very tough to beat. With Carew in, we might've destroyed them. Martin Laursen? Simply immense once again. Young and Gabby caused Spurs problems all day. Carson wasn't much troubled, but great save on Berbatov when called on. NRC...not much of an offensive asset, but he did harry and disrupt Spurs relentlessly in the first. Any team in the premiership would take that win and feel very good about it. |

Sky has the match report dead right: www.skysports.com/football/mat...65,00.html I should also say, watching the game on TV, Villa Park sounded fantastic. Well done the fans. I got a huge smile at the end when a raucous "Birmingham, are you listening?" rang round the park lound clear on the TV. |

| Craig - I presume MON's reaction to Laursen's celebration was down to professionalism and probably just told the team to focus. Though must say his praising of Laursen after the match looked a little forced, to me anyway. |

| I saw the game on Sky yesterday, so perhaps not the best view of the match, but I was pretty pleased with almost everything, but still had a few gripes to make. Firstly, Luke Moore cannot hold the line...every time the ball was played to him in the air he lost out, and to his feet he wasn't much better. He doesn't seem to have the pace or the strength to trouble defences, and if he leaves, i really won't mind. Perhaps Marlon is better equipped to fill in for Big JC? Secondly, Petrov. I like the guy, and i think he puts everything in when he plays. He's not a right winger i think we'll readily agree. He played there, and actually set up our two most gilt-edge chances, but time after time i saw him sucked into the middle of the park so far, that Lee Young-Pyo was able to carry the ball half way into our half, before Mellberg could come out to him. I am telling you now that if Gareth Bale was playing then Mellberg would have been done a fair few times, and we would be cut apart down that side every time. So we were lucky in that respect that Lee can't really do anything. If MON wants to play Stan, i suggest dropping one of the CMs or push Barry to the left and Ashley to the right, otherwise play Gabby or Maloney on the right, because i feel that we could get punished by better teams (Utd namely) if we continue putting Stan on the right. I do think however, that Stan is one of the few players we have who can see a pass and then execute it...look at that round the corner curling pass with the outside of his foot that he played to Nige that was so close to being converted. Craig, AZ - Laursen's celebration says a lot about the team spirit and determination. For me, O'Neill wants to win and that was what was etched into his face. It seemed as though Laursen knows how much the goal meant and immediately went to celebrate it with O'Neill. I just think they were both pumped up, nothing more. You just have to think about the impact the Chelsea, Wigan and now Spurs results are having on our season. I would like to think we can keep Mellberg/ Laursen with Knight and Davies. We need players who want to remain part of this squad as it grows in the future. The days of wanting to play every week in the first team are over so I hope our experienced players stay. Up the Villa!! |

| That's an interesting point legend, i reckon that the spirit that was shown by Laursen in the celebration is pretty indicative of what he and Mellberg still have to offer us. We could buy a world class right back and a world class centre back to replace them, but would they give everything in the same way that they both do? Just look at Spurs' team for the answer to that one. |
