Mellberg is off, if we sign Bosingwa or Miguel and Maloney isn't going back to Celtic

I pick a few days each year when I sleep as long as I want and today was one of them; it's actually really lovely to get out of bed when your body wants to and not when the alarm clock says you have to.

It's also an even nicer feeling when you get out of bed knowing that if it wasn't for a bunch of spoilt Chelsea football players cheating and a referee with an IQ of seven, we would have won yesterday and won convincingly.

But it's not about yesterday any more - it's about looking forward and if you believe the papers this morning quite a bit is going to be happening in the near future.

Shaun Maloney will not be leaving in January. Now that he's the hero of the West Midlands, he's started to feel at home. I hope above all rumours that this one is true.

Maloney isn't the type of player who is going to be forever involved in a game, he's the type that will maybe only get two opportunities in a game but he'll probably score them. All the great teams have a player like this.

In other gossip - Gary Cahill is been chased by every club north of Manchester. He'll probably go, we all know this, because he probably wants to play football - or thinks he should be. None of us know what Martin O'Neill wants to do because he talks in riddles, but I suspect he'd probably like Cahill to stay - but none of us really know.

Now, onto the rumour that we all know about; Olof Mellberg will be off in January if Martin O'Neill signs Miguel or Bosingwa.

Well, we all know he will be off, January would be a surprise to me as it would mean that the club would have to either let him go for free or the club buying would have to pay and I suspect Mellberg would like to see out his contract at Aston Villa Football Club.

It's probably the best for everyone and at least to to me anyway, he's not in the long term plans of Martin O'Neill or a contract would have been sorted out very quickly after the manager started talking about it - last January.

Mellberg is nearing the end of his career and we've had some great seasons out of him and he'll probably get a nice signing on bonus at whichever team he goes to, but I suspect it will be in the summer, not in January - even if we sign two right backs.

Last rumour of the day is all about Sporting Braga defender Alberto Rodriguez. Apparently we're interested, along with Newcastle.

I know nothing about this player and won't pretend to by quickly looking him up Wiki. You can go do that.

Anyway, it's all rumour - nothing more. It would be nice to see Maloney stay, nice if we got a recognised right back and not so nice to see Mellberg leave. But it's only a game.

I have to diasagree with your comment....."Maloney isn't the type of player who is going to be forever involved in a game, he's the type that will maybe only get two opportunities in a game but he'll probably score them. All the great teams have a player like this."

When Maloney played for Celtic he was involved in the game THROUGHOUT the game.

That's because Celtic as a team have always had tricky wingers, which Maloney certainly was before he went to Villa, and at Parkhead the wingers, right and left, are constantly fed the ball and supported by the full backs and midfield, the idea being to get behind the opposition down the flanks.

This ensures the wingers are almost constantly involved in the game.

I have only seen Villa on the telly, but from what I've seen they have a much different style of play, so of course Maloney doesn't see as much of the ball.

It's not surprising then, that he isn't involved as much.

I hope Maloney stays at Villa. It's not too often that when players return to the club they left that they have the same success.
