No Sony deal, hello Michael Cunnah, adjö Olof Mellberg and Bosingwa who?

According to international man of mystery, Bill Howell, there is no truth in the rumour first seen on Villa Talk about the Sony deal.

According to the super hero, a number of companies have held talks but no deal is yet done. Personally, I suspect even if a deal was done it wouldn't be announced. It would be wonderful if it turned out to be Sony though.

Onto other bits found while looking for adult material, Jose Bosingwa has apparently said no to a move to England. I've read the article and the only quote I'm seeing that I've not seen before is the one from FC Porto.

They've said that €10mn. is not enough; which in itself says you can buy him you've just got to offer more. Is this deal dead? I'm not sure but I'm also not sure how I found the article especially when you consider what I was initially looking for.

Olof Mellberg on the other hand looks like he's off, adjö is Swedish for goodbye. In a few short days he'll be able to sign for another club, for free which will mean his weekly salary is more than he's likely to be offered at Villa.

This is probably his last contract as a professional player and while he may already be a wealthy man if you've got the chance to earn probably quite a bit more that what you're been offered, while playing Champions League football in your preferred position - all in a warmer country - nobody is going to blame you for doing so.

If he does go hats off to the fella. He's done a good job for Aston Villa Football Club and will be welcomed back.

Michael Cunnah

Last bit of news for the day, Michael Cunnah has become the Chief Operating Officer of Aston Villa. He comes from the Wembley project and the FA. He's highly thought of in football and will bring things to the table.

I've spoken to a few people about him the last day or two and the general consensus is that he took the blame for the Wembley project mostly because someone had to - not because he was at fault.

Bottom line is he knows his numbers and knows how to make them work. In terms of what he brings to the table, someone told me 'it's all value' if you're a football club, just in terms of his experience and contact base.

It's just nice to see that we now have a board full of people that seem to know what they're doing rather than one man struggling to stay afloat, despite his best intentions.

That Michael Cunnah geezer will surely be part of the redevelopment team, given Randy Lerner and his board want to make Villa Park into a more welcoming place. Shame about Mellberg and the José Bosingwa thing is inconclusive, he never said no to a bid from an English club, just said he doesn't fancy it. Couple of grand more will fix that smilies/wink.gif

That Jose Bosingwa quote really doesn't mean a great deal, only that he's pushing out the line that is expected of someone under contract, which is a good thing in my mind; it means he's not someone who's necessarily going to kick and scream his way out of a club. It doesn't really rule the move out, but it does keep the Porto fans on his side if it doesn't happen.
And its always nice to have a board that know what they're doing. If the club conducts itself well, it breeds behaviour throughout.

Shame if Mellberg does go, must admit I have enjoyed watching him play over the years.

If Mellberg does decide to leave us (which is looking likely) I hope that no-one boo's him. He has put in great service for our club and I for one will really miss him, he is one of my favourite players and i hope he leaves for a team in the Champions League as he deserves it. It wont be too bad as long as we get Laursen signed up.

Yeah I agree, though we should probably sign another replacement if only just for back-up. Obviously it's a shame to see someone like him leave, but you cant blame him if he wants Champions League football. After all the services he's given to this club, maybe it is simply time for him to move on anyway.

He would be welcomed back, though he's pretty old now and would probably not be good enough in a few years... but who knows? He may even take up a coaching role. His experience would be great for upcoming youngsters.

I agree with the board comment too. It's so reassuring to know that there is a decent backing behind the club.

"At this point I am open to all suggestions," said Sorensen. "If somebody shows me a contract, I will sign it, no matter what the offer is.

"But at the same time I don't want to play temporarily for some Japanese club either."

Sorensen hates the Japanese apparently...

I think you're getting him wrong...he says he doesn't want to play "temporarily" for some Japanese team. Full time would be acceptable. Another word to the wise would be to mobile phone salesmen...they could clean up with Sorensen saying he'd sign any contract in front of him.
