Okay, first of all forget about Ricardo Quaresma...i know we were promised "world class signings" in the summer, but we have to realise what is possible and what isn't in order for us to not be as depressed as we were at the end of August. Quaresma is the same as being linked to Wesley Sneider...it just isn't going to happen. Nelson on the other hand is just about possible, and would be greatly received...I'd sooner have Bosingwa though. Seriously, if we start entertaining thoughts of Quaresma we're only going to be seriously agitated come February. The Sony thing doesn't impress me that much either, because, yes they are a big brand, but let's face it, they're not going to give us any more money to have their name on our shirts than anyone else, because why would they have to? And, another thing, Sony one of the biggest brands in the world that probably wouldn't get much from being associated with us, a top-half of the table team who are beginning to branch outside of the UK. We might as well hope for Microsoft to sponsor us. |

It'll be cool if it is sony the new sponsor, but which branch/brand of sony would it be ? i.e Playstation or sony ericsson. I'd quite the ps3 slogan used at VP "This is Living". As to the queresma link didn't liverpool and man u try to sign him in the summer ?. If so then we can kiss that rumor goodbye. I've seen nelson a play against celtic in the CL and he was ripped apart by McGeady that night constantly that they switched him to the left and brought on another RB. As for Maloney saying he's settled i think we'll start seeing him more involved now. |

I don't think he should replace Barry, i think Barry should go back to left-wing, put Young at right-wing and leave Maloney and Reo-Coker in the middle. But yep, that'll certainly spark a debate. |

I say drop NRC play Barry as a holding midfielder and let petrov roam forward more often. pop young on the right and maloney on the left. NRC for all his hard work doesn't add much to the middle of the park. |

Maloney would go on the right for me. Young/Barry/Petrov/Maloney or Young/Barry/Reo-Coker/Maloney would be my preferred midfield. I really hope he stays. He's scored a lot of goals for us this season, considering he's hardly played. That's very valuable. As for Sony, it would be nice to have a decent brand on the shirt. I agree with wildeyedtrot about the 32 red thing. I don't like having their name on our shirt - it lowers the tone. |

To be honest, I wouldn't disagree with taking Barry out for a game or two...no one should be above being replaced, which is something that O'Neill doesn't accept easily, just look at how long it took him to bench Stan. Recently, Barry has been a bit off the boil that he was on at the beginning of the season, and coming off for a game or two won't hurt him. Playing Maloney in central midfield however, may be suicide. Leave Nige and Stan in there, and see what happens. Reo needs a couple of big performances, and I'd much sooner see Maloney on the wings. Maybe leaving big JC out wouldn't hurt him either...the second that guy gets fit he's in automatically, and frankly, i'd quite like to see a bit more rotation of the forward players from MO'N before we get as predictable as we did at the same time last year. Let's face it, before Ashley Young changed our game at the back end of last year, we were found out by every team, and we were getting beaten with ease. |

Yeah I do think it's wishful thinking with Quaresma. O'Neill may be interested but it's unlikely we'll have a bid accepted, never mind persuade him to join. I can't see him leaving Porto to join a side who aren't in the Champions league, unless he wants to prove he is good enough to play in the Premiership. (Maybe a little along the lines of Carlos Tevez - signed for West Ham, proved he could play, signed for Man Utd). See, I'm actually convincing myself we can get him now. As with other posts, I'm not entirely bothered about the sponsor though of course it would be 'nice' to have Sony. You're right though, it doesn't make that much difference either way. I'd probably rather see Maloney replace Reo-Coker than Barry, though I don't think Barry should be untouchable in the sense that he will always be in the starting eleven. You have to have competition for places. |

Just going along with the ifs. If not then leave it, carew and gabby up top. young out left, stan/shaun and barry on the attacking end with aaron lennon out right? nrc defensive midfielder switching out with osbourne for cup matches. bouma laursen/mellberg in the middle and bosingwa or nelson right sided back. it's not too far fetched is it? Just think, barry and stan, two of our best playmakers controlling the midfield every game. or even shaun on one of his good days. |

i stil think nrc has wot it takes to be a top player. i reckon he wil come good, he is a good player an is the kind of vocal box to box guy we need. maybe he has not quite lived up to his potential yet, but we wil see the best of him. |

Villa is no torres. He's older and only the past few seasons he's showed excellent form. Now i'm not doubting his class, but for that amount of money i'd be expecting a consistent goalscorer like eto'o, kaka, & drogba. I'd like him but i also think there's better out there. like messi or benzema young good investments who can be given time to grow and adjust to the premiership. |

Eli, i see what you mean now, i thought you wanted to have all the players in that list, with defoe, bent, gabby and carew to choose from. It's not too unrealistic to be fair. I must say that we surely have to prioritise up front, and i'm looking squarely at big JC. He's simply not going to score goals and he makes us a long ball team. I'm going to put the name of Kevin Doyle into the myre...i reckon at a quality club who will provide chances, that boy would knock in 15-20 a season without sweat. I'm pretty sure he's getable and a lot more likely to come than the likes of Quaresma, and he's a proven goalscorer...last year. Still though, I'd sooner have him than the sluggish, slow, unresponsive, chance-misser that is JC. He should score headers for fun with ashley young and gaz baz providing the balls, but he misses so many. I grow tired of it. |

haha that would be the case in a semi-ideal world. in an ideal world drogba would be bent and robinho would be defoe...robinho...that would be nice  but in all fairness carew has his moments. for some reason i get the feeling mon doesnt expect him to be an out and out goal scorer. carew needs to play the part of holding up the ball(that's played to his FEET) and lay it back off to wee shaun, barry, stan, or whoever we have  messi-ing about in the attacking midfield come february. for realistic purposes i'd like to see someone like that kamara fellow at fulham as a squad player for us or even burak yilmaz. and a christmas list: bosko/allback back one of them iphones yilmaz gio dos santos karim benzema lahm maicon or maxwell johan elmander any combination of the above in 2s or 3s would be lovely. |

Looks like the Bosingwa deal might not go through now! He has said to Sky Sports that he want's to with the Liga this season for Porto. Even though the club are willing to let him go for £7m Bosingwa is staying put for the time being. As for super Shaun, great news to hear that he want's to stay on fight for his place. Shaun reminds me of what Vasall was like when he came on as a super sub. He always got the team working faster and harder and up their game. But I have to say Shaun should be starting from the off. Craig G has had his chance to shine and sadly I think he has been poor the last through games he's played for Villa. He had a right stinker againist Pompy. Super Shaun HAS to be in the starting 11 on Saturday againist City. |

Everyone says we need to play the ball to Carew's feet more, but have you seen the lad with the ball on the ground? Can't control it for a tin of beans. His first touch is woeful and often breaks down a classy passing attack. We have to give the ball to Carew's head or he's no use to us. Drop him, use Moore/Harewood/Maloney and see how much more skillful we'll be when we have no aerial threat. |

I don't get to see enough of the games to have a real answer, but it seems that when I can watch the Villa, the team seems to have trouble controlling central midfield. I don't know whether Villa are trying to funnel opposition through there, instead of letting them get wide, but it often seems to be a gaping hole for opponents to fill. Perhaps Barry back as a holding midfielder, Stan going forward. |

Some people may not even agree with me but after watching us at the weekend, i noticed that no one really plays on the right wing for us...Petrov is a great player, but plays in the centre with out thinking about it... theres one player i know plays on the right, yet we havnt seen him play since being back at his club and i think he could bloom quite well under O'Neil... - Wayne Routledge... I'm no genius but i think he's realistic and another youngster to add to Young, Gabby and Nigel...all of whom have played together at under21 england level... I'd love to know what other people think of this... |
