Crouch on his way back to Villa Park?

It's the Daily Mirror so it really is scraping the barrel but according to the paper most people use when taking the dog for a walk, Marin O'Neill is interested in bringing Peter Crouch back to Villa Park.

I must admit I always liked Peter Crouch and was quite disappointed he left but the manager who let him go was a monkey.

Anyway, if it's true it will be a good thing as far as I'm concerned. Crouch, for a big man, has good control, a good shot and isn't scared to get involved.

Crouch is pretty much out of favour at Liverpool and despite Rafa Benitez saying he wanted him to stay he's behind the likes of Andriy Voronin, Fernando Torres and Dirk Kuyt, which is some strike force.

This isn't the first time we've heard Crouch is coming back back to Aston Villa and with January just a few months away, I doubt it will be the last, but I just can't see him leaving if and it's a big if, Liverpool are still in the Champions League.

why would we pay more than 10mil for him?? he is such a similar player to carew, any way it invites long ball tatics

He doesn't have the aeriel threat we have in Carew. We'd be better off signing an 18-20 year old tall geezer as cover for Carew instead of someone expecting lots of first-team action. I can only presume Crouch would be cover for Carew.

Carew's aerial threat? Both Crouch and Carew can win knock ons with their head. Carew on the other hand cannot head for goal for s**t. Crouch is a better all round player than Carew, and if we can replace JC with Crouch, then i'd say do it. What i don't agree with is how it is going to reflect on us if we do buy him. We bought him for 6mil, sold him for 2mil. He went on from Southampton to be sold for 6mil again, and if we buy him back for 10mil, then that's a stupid loss of 14mil. As a villa fan, i am made to look stupid a lot, but i am not happy about having wasted so much money all because DOL was a t**t.

Let's face it, he was rubbish in his spell at Villa Park. It's just the ironic cycle of players hitting good form after they leave the Villa.

No friggin way! The guy's a useless sack of sh!t! No strength, no balance, always in the wrong position, play's some of the most unattractive football I've seen in my lifetime, and the bloke's an absolute tosspot aswell.
Don't believe the hype! Crouch and his agent have managed to fool the entire country when it comes to his worth on the football pitch.
I know he's tall, but without strength and balance your a pretty useless target man.
If you compare him to Carew who's got height, pace, strength, and experience, there's no contest.

Rather than paying over the odds for Crouch who we sold for £2m back in 2004, I wouldn't mind a bid for Nicolas Bendtner who has a lot of the same attributes as Crouch, but would be half the price and is younger.

No too rodney! I'd rather we signed Defoe and kept Carew that would be a much better forward line. In any case why are people looking to get rid of Carew ? can some answer that because it's baffling me to be honest. But if it's big striker MON Wants who can score hold up play etc then i'd say Dean Ashton is his man i'd pick him over rodney & heskey for england and Villa.

crouch is a great player, but just like england and liverpool he seems to make the other 10 players on his team uncontrollably launch long balls, and IMO carew is better at making the ball stick

crouch is just like carew, carew has as much skill as crouch and can get the ball. However arsenal have proved hoofing the ball downfield is not the way to win, we must all remember hammering the ball downfield is a tactic in rugby not football. Arsenal play the ball along the floor and are top of the league. With the pace we have with agbonlahor and ash young both skillful young players plus the attacking and defensive talents of barry in the middle villas way forward is not long ball play so is not with peter crouch

James McFadden maybe? I doubt Everton would let him go but he'd be well suited to our game. Maybe Gyan Asamoah over at Udinese in Italy. Quick, good finisher and got a good heading ability too! And he's only 21.

I would welcome him back. The man scores goals.

When he got his chance at Villa he scored. He has scored everywhere he has played. In fact, he has scored more goals nationally and internationally than Defoe, albeit some of which in the first division for QPR.

We have pace, and it is obvious MON favours a few big men. Carew and Crouch competing for that position would be fantastic.

No way!Crouch was rubish for us the only ex Villan who still plays I would welcome back is Der Hammer.Crouch would just push Tobius Mikaelson (the next Ibrahimavic)down the peking order when players like him and Stieber are so promising. We would be much better off spending our money on a good quality right back and right winger.

I don't think we should even think about buying crouch! we need a right back desperatley and I think a out and out right winger or a creative attacking midfielder in the form of Guti or Riquelme! we have enough strikers! ok they mat not all be top class but there are other areas of the field that need strengthening first, and if we were going to spend over 10 million on him tat would be a joke! you can get so much better than that for that kind of money! that fella that newcastle are looking at Cardozo looks very good big bloke I think the same size as carew but extremley good feet, good in the air and plenty of pace! that would be more like it and they reckon he wuill go for 6 million!

why buy guti or requelme when we should look at young milner remember hes been around a long time hes got european experience two good crossing feet likes to attack like young does! and should be cheap enough! we could even give them marleene deadwood free as well as cash lol! crouch should be a good replacement to deadwood mon p**sed about with money a bit but if he can do this we could have a good squad with good back up! (you hear that marleene. i said good back up not s**te... lol)

For the people that go every single week like me, they will agree with what i will say ........

Carew isnt especially good in the air and Crouch is clearly the better player, due to hunger and ability! Would love to see Roadney back at Villa Park to be given a proper chance unlike the time when O'Leary was in charge!

Why are you lot all so impressed with Carew? A "big man" to win headers is a thing of the past. No decent teams play this way and havn't for years. Not only that but he's not that good anyway. I'd rather have Crouch any day - not that I think he's the answer. In 2 years when Carew's gone you'll all be saying what a big donkey he was. take a reality check.

I think we missed the boat with Kone. But i like the idea from Dizzy Mugs, Asamoah. Mainly because he is young. We can only get young guys with potential until we prove ourselves (make Europe!) We cant buy proven stars just yet because noone will play for us. Thats why young guys with a big upside is the way to go, that way down the track the team would have grown together. I mean Erikkson got Elano for free (I think) and anyone would pay 8mil for him now, so there are players out there we just have to look outside of this country perhaps?

dont agree with the guy who says crouch is a tosser, i met him in solihull once and had a chat with him, really nice down to earth bloke.

however, the only reason we should buy him is if we sell harewood, or we are going to sell harewood.

Crouch in carew out reason i want carew out is because he is doin what he did with lyon and valencia started well with a few goals then dosnt score all season so we might aswell get crouchie because he can do what carew dose plus score goals

I only hate Crouch cos I'm the same height and build as he is but he's better at football that me. I may have been a bit hasty in calling him a 'tosspot' as I haven't met the bloke, but he's still very over-rated.
Carew is a better footballer than Crouch, but I agree that we could do a lot better.

When you say Carew is doing what he did at Valencia and Lyon scoring goals only when he first joined the club is bo**ocks, i remember a few months before we signed him watching him play on his own up front for Lyon against Real Madrid and tearin apart the then World Footballer of the year and Italian world cup winning captain Cannavaro andscoring a hat trick! he had already played a season and had a good goal scoring record as he has had at every vlub he has played for! personally I think he i better than crouch and just needs more service and there is no doubt he will score more goals!

Robbie said it all, terrible bit of business by Villa, a net loss of £4m to us with only couple goals, profit £10m to Saints plus goals, good striker for Pool who will not sell for less than they paid. We CANNOT be made to look so silly.
