Gareth Barry to Chelsea with £15 million coming the other way?
Written by Damian

It's in the People people so don't shoot the messenger, but according to the paper with now quotes, Chelsea may very well be making an approach for him in January.

This is only a rumour but with fat Frank looking more and more likely that he's going to Spain there is every chance that the new manager would rather bring in a new player than play one of the other central midfielders he has.

Barry has some high stock at the moment and some may think now is the time to cash in, some might think a team should be built around him and others may very well think that selling isn't such a bad thing but we need to get more than £15mn.

Whatever your views or opinions you can leave them below and there is also a quick question to the right. Imagine we could get Steve Sidwell and Shaun Wright-Phillips; wouldn't that be good business for everyone?

Chelsea dont need Barry. Not only is Lampard better (it should Barry and Lamps for England - Gerrard's only in the team cuz of the pro-Liverpool, ant-Chelsea media) but they already have Mikel, Essien and Makalele who can play the 'defensive' role. Lets not forget they also have Sidwell and Ballack to come bakc too. For those reasons I think it's just more made up sh1te!

Bad news but not unexpected. No one can stand in the way of a move to the Big Four.
What Villa must do is ensure taht we get the maximum price (£20M plus) and a great player like Sidwell coming the other way. Good luck Gareth and thanks.

Barry - a great player, but if we could straight swap for two other great players then I'd say good business. We could probably ask for a couple of million on top too! Its only pocket money for abramobitch

Sidwell isn't much good in my opinion. Overrated

If we got 15 million for Barry then I would be pleased, however politically it sends out the wrong message and helps to confirm that we are in the following pack of clubs rather than aiming to be in the top four. I would be happier if we got SWP in the deal because then it shows we still have ambition.
In many ways Barry is the embodiment of Villa and the fact that he nearly left us, but is now back in the England setup and holding his own very much like ourselves.

we must keep players like barry hes part of the furniture now and we must get players like swp to play along side him,f we dont need the cash why sell.

we have to keep barry simple as.if we start selling the likes of him than every top player we get will be sold and end up being a selling club.. do we really need 15m? we have a very wealthy owner so dont think we need to sell our best players and i think gareth should look at other good players that went to chelsea and didnt play.. at this stage of his career he has to be playing week in week out and he wont be at chelsea.. we also should be buying swp anyway he is class and said in the past that he would move to villa, dont bother with sidwell hes overrated!

If we sell Barry it shows a lack of ambition. It won't happen, surely?

If Villa sell barry that'll be the biggest mistake in Mon's Managerial history how can you give a player rave reviwes every week make him your captain and then sell him to the first club that show's big money intrest ? it also puts out the signal that we're just a stepping stone team in football something we don't need to be now we're owned by Randy Billionaire lerner. In terms of getting Sidewell and SWP in return stinks! SWP great player when he's on form would be welcome down the right for villa him and young would scare defences anywhere we go. Sidwell is just media hyped he had a good season at reading last year but so did that whole team look at them now struggling we've seen it all before with one season wonders then they slip in too mediocritie after that. I think villa should sign SWP, Defoe, Mendes or Bentley for a more attacking side As for the RB i'd like Finnan. I also read a rumor today that Mon is making a 10mil permanant move for Carson smilies/grin.gif Players to go Moore he's just lacking that quality send him out on loan suits everyone.

Well i have said it before elsewhere and ill say it again, this as many people have said is where we show what we are aiming for, if we sell him then it isnt much but if we keep despite strong offers from other Top 4 clubs that shows we really do want to be up there. The key to becoming a big club again is keeping you best players.

Man City are in the same situation, a few clubs want Micah Richards for about £20M, the money would be good for them but could they get a player as good as Micah could potentially be to join them, even for £20M. Id say at this stage no and that is why they must keep hold of him.

if he goes i reckon he be makin a big mistake, he wont be 100% to start every game, an no matter how much money they got i dont think they'll win anything for a long time, i would'nt want barry to go the same way SWP did, no matter what they offer he should stay, the club's getting better an he's getting better an better it would be a shame to let him go although SWP in jan for the right wing would'nt be a bad buy??? i think he might actually wake up an realise chelsea is not for him if he stays its all just about money for him.

All these people saying that selling Barry would show lack of ambition sould realise that there comes a point where it is worse keeping an unhappy player than getting rid for top money. I'm not saying GB wants to go but surely no-one would begrudge him a move to a top 4 club. Fans only see things from a blinkered perspective.

If GB wants to go to chelsea it would be hard to stop him mon will not keep unhappy players 15m would not be enough as we would not get as good a midfielder and we are not stuck for cash we should hold all our best players and buy better ones in jan and the summer and not just squad players

£20M for Hargreaves? £15M for Barry?

IF Barry goes we need to get as much as Man U paid for Hargreaves for him thats for sure.

Personally I wouldn't let him go anyway. Not unless Chelsea offer a straight swap with Essien. I'm not interested in SWP or Sidwell.

Im sure Barry would be sensible enough to see it is the wrong move for him.. Us villa fans have known how good he is for 5 years not the 5 weeks like these cocky pundits. We wont get SWP as you porbablly don't know in summer He was at Villa for a medical but Jose called it off. I say if gazza wants to leave let him, Otherwise tell them go find another bunch of prats to throw your money on.

I think we shoudl keep Barry, Villa just wouldnt be the same without him. We shouldnt be selling we should be buying, we need to get rid of Curtis Davies hes not Premiership Material. Also Stylan Petrov, Luke Moore And Patrik Berger should go. we need some quality young players. we need a right back and i'd go for someone like Finnan or Micah Richards, get SWP and an actual GOALSCORING strike partner for Gabby Agbonlahor, maybe Anelka????

Some people are crazy. Barry isn't going anywhere and we are not getting micah richards or anelka. I still think Milner is the best option for the right side and I would pay anything for him, he's young quick and sure to be playing for England in the next couple of years. Also Luke moore has got it and we shouldn't let him go, he's one of our best players and selling him would be a big mistake. Berger may aswell stay, he's on a pay per play contract and he is still very usefull

please stop banging on about nicky anelka he wont be any good for us he's gettin over the hill now owen is a quality player if n when he is fit but will be overpriced as for swp PLEASE! his form can be very erratic at time its just that the others at chelsea are making him look good
whether crouch will come back to villa i think every1 is forgetting 1 thing its down to him if he wants to come back & remembering the last time he was here will prob make him say no but hell you never know!!!! smilies/shocked.gif
