Now we're after Wayne Routledge from Spurs

According the the Guardian we're after spurs winger Wayne Routledge and you know what I wouldn't mind this one little bit.

He plays as a right winger and like most of the players Martin O'Neill is going after or who he's taken in, played for England at U21 level.

I'm racking my brain to remember him playing at Fulham last year but I'm not seeing anything. I just remember that he's quite a nippy little player and simply because of that I'd like him.

I like wingers that can get past the defender and get the ball into the box; it creates chances and that is something we've lacked at Villa for a few years.

Not sure if this is worth the paper it's written on in the Guardian, but it's well worth remembering we could do with a right winger.

Ah yes, this is the guy who can't even command a regular starting place on loan at Fulham. Fantastic summer, I'm really impressed.

We are after every player in the galaxy. I'm tired of it. After transfer deadline I will see if we have new player in the squad (and who else has gone), until that I don't trust any rumour.

hahah dont ye remember about 3/4 years ago an 18 year old winger for crystal palace by the name of wayne routlege destroyed villa 2 goals and an assist i think if oneill can bring cosistency to his game he'll prove to be an ashley young (on the right type signing)

Good player on his day. Maybe if MON can save some change that he was going to spend on Bosingwa and Davies by buying Knight (for cover), Glen Johnson and Routledge, then he can blow a healthy 12-15mil on Jermaine Defoe. I think we NEED Defoe at this club, no two ways about it. MON, stop thinking and just buy him...thinking doesn't work.

Routledge would be a good squad signing - he's young and quick, maybe not up to AY's standard (yet) but a decent bet for the future, especially if under £5m. Give it a go I say?

hahaha maybe knights being signed as our new strker hes already scored more goals for villa this year than carew gabby and moore, another masterstroke by o neill. ive nothing but admiration for o neill and i can remember the excitment when we got him, but look down the years when we didnt pay a little extra to sign the like of robbie keane and other targets, thats the type of quality we need, theres rumour now davies to arsenal and still spurs why cant we bring in these names and we need defoe we lack star names on our team sheet. villa still a team for the future, this year mid table again

Im a Spurs fan but have always liked the way Villa used to play so have a soft spot for you guys. Defoe would be awesome for you if you can get him, he's hungry and needs game time. Routledge he flatters to deceive. He's nippy but cant get past defenders unless its a straight sprint but once he's past its 1 decent cross every 50 attempts. Personally I hope we give him away

Zat knight is a supposed Villa fan now i'm not over the moon about this probable signing but if he does come i just hope he gives his all for the club & fans cause he'll have a hell of a mountain to climb to endear himself to the fans.

Wayne Routledge i said we should try and sign him a few weeks ago, He's being held back at spurs by lennon & boateng* at fulham he was hamperd by injuries & a relegation fight not to mention at times they played long balls to McBride & helguson, WR is like young and we need that down the right have done for years!.

Defoe is a must buy in my opinion say we sign WR, Young & him will hopefully get enough balls to him he can score about 20 this season.

Indi, we already have a player like that called Agbonlahor... fast as f**k - but absolutely no brain whatsoever! His pace does scare defences but we rarely ever see a goal from it or even a decent cross! He just seems to run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and... oh, it's gone out for a goal kick by the corner flag!

We are hanging on to the usual forced, desperate optimism - something I thought would end the day Ellis left Villa Park. He's a Villa fan, he's had injuries and long balls didn't suit his game..anything we can think of to make this prospective buy look better. At least until he steps onto the field that is. Personally, I think we are being taken for a ride - big time.

woodinho.............lmfao!!!!!! true thou bout gabby look at becks now im not a fan of his but he never cased after a ball but waited in position for a pass then created opertunities for goals by his crossing etc... gabby is fast but no end product but young enough to learn how to cross a ball. please sombody at villa hire merson as a coach to teach people how to cross a ball or how to create a passing oppertunity even if its just to work with gabby and petrov lol smilies/grin.gif smilies/grin.gif

Pretty sure this is just a column-filler.
Why are you people whining at rumours and blaming Martin O'Neill?? Blame the papers for bringing up this topic. *sigh* Idiots.
Routledge would be decent enough to give us a top 8 spot, with the right team-mates and enough confidence. I don't care who we bring in and if we did bring anyone in. As long as we deliver, do what you like. If MON wants to play Gordon Cowans and Eric Steele, fine by me.

Dizzy_Mugs: people are going by what the press write because that's how you get news at times - not always wrong news either. We take them with a pinch of salt, but we listen nonetheless. As for calling people idiots, I'm quoting your "Routledge would be decent enough to give us a top 8 spot, with the right team mates and enough confidence". I think that statement in itself explains how much you know football-wise.

Would realy like to get Wayne Routledge. Looked great a few years ago and has been doing nothing ever since. Good age to finally start fulfiling the talent he has. He has got pace, can go by players and he can aslo set people up. Saw the spurs-derby county game two weekends back and he played very well. We don't have anyone on the right side of midfield to complement our strong left side. So far Gabby has played there (completely over-rated, good at sprinting but cant finish his dinner) and Petrov(donkey at the moment). Maybe Maloney would slot in nicely there, I dont know? James Milner would have been "exhilirating" as MON likes to say...

As for other players, does anyone know if Davies is that good? Is he worth £6m more than Knight who as someone pointed out earlier could turn out to be as good as another Villa fan Ian Taylor was. Or is Defoe worth £15m when we have Luke Moore who let's face it has not been given an extended run in the first team to prove himself. Hope MON has an excellent right back or two lined up though.

Gah! This is real life, not Football Manager!

Sorry but Villa can't attract Kaka and Ronalado or even Boswinga and Riquelme just yet.

Routledge, Knight, Davies and Johnson are probably 90% paper talk but they are decent squad players and thats what we need. Defoe could be class though.

Get a grip. Judge MON at the end of the season.

Look MMM, get a grip: if bloody Bolton can attract Okocha and Anelka, if Middlesbrough manage to sign Viduka and Yakubu surely AVFC can attract Bosingwa? I mean fellas, I know we've been a sleeping giant for decades now but bloody hell, we're not that small a club either!

Whilst Ash will deliver down the left, i'd like to see him hugging the touch line to give us width immediately when we win posession in defence/midfield. Another quality player that can hug the right touchline and do the same is required on the right hand side.
I love Gabby but getting wide and crossing from the right is not his game and I think it's very much the same as Routledge. IMO We would not be gaining anything with Routledge (he's like Julian Gray on the other wing...similar background...Villq going backwards etc)
Glen Johnson just happens to play right back but he is proper s**t. I can't believe some fans wanting him at the club, he really is poor and as for Rosenior ! (never won a header in his life)
Now this Dica bloke is a different thing...obvious quality. Hope there's some truth in that one.
