Easy groucho - because it means we haven't wasted £9m (interest on £9m is about £1m) on a player who's only experience is in the Scottish prem, because it gives Carson a year to come round to the idea of staying permanently, and because it means L'pool will pick up some of the wages. If its true, its great news - another shrewd move by MON...he's a quality 'keeper as shown in the U21's championship. |

Nice bit of business, twice the keeper Gordon is and he has good premiership experience. He did very well at Charlton, picking up their player of the season award last term. Takes the pressure off the keeper position for a while, lets face it, they are hard to come by, good keepers. Now for the rightback position. |

Some reports are saying we have to pay his wages AND pay Liverpool 2.5 mil AND we are not to attempt to sign him on a permanent deal. Smacks of desperation to me. |

hmm....it is a sad state of affairs that we have to loan players from Liverpool....5 yrs ago this would never have happened. The gulf between top 4/5 and the rest is massive in every respect, even with 'significant funds' it'll be difficult to catch them. Never mind - have faith! |

If we get Carson he won't be able to play in Saturdays game against Liverpool. It part of premierleague loan regulations or something like that, also I don't think Liverpool would be too keen on Carson playing against them! By the way I think it's fantastic if we get him on loan! |

Thank the lord!!!! as you probably know i go on about us gettin Carson most days. He is a quality keeper and with him never really going to be first choice at Liverpool i could easily see him signing permanent after his loan spell. This is better MON, keep them comin! We're the pride of Birmingham and we shall not be moved! |

Casron is a quality keeper. Hes only 21, and will get much better. Even if its for a season long loan, if hes good enough by the end of it, im sure we will make a bid. |

I hope it's true - even the broadsheet papers have said it's likely, and they (hopefully) are more trustworthy than tabloids. I have to say, I thought Carson was one of the best keepers in the Premiership last year. Ben Foster with Watford got a lot of mention, but from the games I saw Carson in (and playing for a club like Charlton where he had a lot of action against him) he made a lot of good to great saves. He done the job there despite being on loan, so I'd be happy if he came to us. Plus he wants to impress and get into the England team, so he'll be on his game. |

Personally i dont think its the way forward. Jussi is a far better keeper and far more accomplished - very rarely has a bad game. I can only think MON has something lined up for next season or will work on bringing someone in permanently in the slow time if the deal is not to allow us to purchase at the end. I watched Carson in the U21 semi-finals against Holland earlier in the year, the penalty shoot out was comical. If you remember we lost something like 13-12, im sure he dived the wrong way for at least 10 or 11 of them. If you get to see it again watch carefully! Everyone has bad days i suppose and im not really questioning his ability. I just think there are better keepers and better PERMANENT deals to be done out there! |

What with what happened with Gordon I'd be a little sceptical just now. A lot of the papers still say it's between us, who are offering a season long loan, and City who will pretty much pay any money for any player at the moment. I don't want to get excited about another quality keeper in case they shun us for a second rate team again. |

i think i'll be agreein with most ppl, carson is much better than gordon. firstly - he's younger secondly - liverpool don't wana lose him thirdly - he's proven in the prem forthly - he's determined to do well because he wants to play for england. |

yeah jussi is a good keeper but its not plannin for the future much as hes gettin old now but then again gettin carson on loan is not really plannin for the future unless we can get him on a permanent deal after his loan spell |

richie p - i dont see hoyte or rossenior as players of the calibre that we need. they do however have all the qualities that MON will look for, young, british potential. i just dont see them as villa's future, hopefully they will prove me wrong IF we sign them. I would like to see someone like dario Srna(4m) or heitinga(5m). how good is erik Lund our reserve right back?? |

How about Trabelsi for the right back slot? I know he had a bad time at Man City but only a year ago he was an Arsenal target and playing Champions League for Ajax..now he's a free agent - surely he would be worth a gamble? |

yeah he is a quality player. just played in a poor team last season. would be happy with him signing. after researching european football there are a few but he sounds like the best option. apparently liverpool have made an enquiry into cicinho at real. quoted at 7.8 million. we have the money and the ambition. also arne friedrich at Hertha Berlin and willy sagnol at bayern are good options. |

Guys.... stop getting carried away with what the papers say, we've heard it too many times that "blah blah is set to sign for Villa", Carson would be good but I'm not holding my breath he'll even come, on lone or otherwise! We all need to stop feeding into this speculation and paper talk until something concrete is done! I know for a fact that all the rumour watching has caused a large chunk of my close season frustration! Sites like newsnow just pick up on all the rats tails of storries, and we all just get excited just to be let down when nothing comes of it!!! But at the end of the day you can't blame the club for people making up links and stories about players that have no strength to them and have not come from anyone at the club! I think the club do things quite professionally (business wise!) as apart from the "quality signings are coming" speech they have not given us any hint of players until they have something concrete coz they know how much of a let down it is to us fans when the said players don't arrive! The only person who really knows what happened in the case of Craig Gordon is MON - if he was even really that keen at all - you see no one really knows, and as manager I think he has a right to keep his cards close to his chest! Dont get me wrong I am as frustrated as anyone else and I know it sounds like I'm changing my tune but I'm peed off with all the speculation and frustration! How p**sed of would we all be if the club had told us all the transfer targets we were going for and then none of them came off - we'd be a laughing stock to every other club!!! We'd be known as a club who "talk a good game"... I'm afraid I'm going to be giving Newsnow a wide berth from now on as it just causes too many arguments and too much expextation, I will however be glued to the Villa site... Agree with woodinho, i said it last week, would you all feel alot better if you knew all the players we were after/bid for and didnt get? West ham lost out on dyer because they were bragging about him before the deal was done. I also said a while ago, why dont we get Carson on loan. Obviously Craig Gordan is the best out of the the 4 we have been linked with but hes gone. Would a good season with Carson in goal prompt a permanent move or a recall from liverpool. I still think we need to be in the market for a permanent keeper. |

I agree 100% with you Taglor, but also I hate to say this but the OS is the only source for reliable information! Yeah they drip feed it but at least they only give us concrete info! Unless it's on the official site there is a good chance it is all bull! And not even worth reading! It's just reporters clutching at straws! The club have obviously learned from the Milner affair of last season and don't wanna end up with custard on their faces again... although the lack of signing could be a cause of this anyway but only time will tell on that front!!! |

I will like to have Carson on loan. It doesn't permanently solve our problems with the position. But we do strengthen our squad while saving money (hopefully, we'll use the savings to buy a right back). Everyone agrees that finishing in Europe this season---having a quality keeper in goal undoubtedly improves our chances of doing so---will bolster our ability to attract quality signings next season. |

just been informed that chelsea are waiting to sign daniel alves next week. when they do then they will make glen johnson available for around 3mil and this is what MON is waiting for. i would be very happy with that bargain if it materialises. |

As much as I want Carson I think signing anyone on loan is a joke for a team trying to break into europe, look at Bardsley he went back to Man U, Hughes was p**sed off and he went, now we've got no right-backs!! Also, why would Tommy sign the new contract we are going to offer him if he knows he's been replaced by a guy on loan, he's not gonna want to take a back seat and risk losing his starting place in the Danish national team, personally I think we stand a good chance of losing both next summer if not Tommy sooner. We need to be looking past loan deals in my opinion. |

Well, Benitez said that Carson would be on his way to us if he could get Itandje before the Champs League deadline, and according to SSN, Itandje has moved to Liverpool. All's well then...except for this weekend. |

Yes your right we do. However, the season starts on saturday, i know Carson is ineligable but after that we need a keeper, and if we can only bring someone in on loan then thats what we have to do. We can use him as a stop gap while MON finds the right keeper, which may even be Carsone on a more permenant deal. |

i can't help but seeing this complecate villas pre-season next year If we do sign Carson on loan then tommy leaves on a free, Now think this time next season we could only have taylor once Carson goes back to Liverpool and then be linked with Carson, Itandje, Gordon assuming Sunderland get relegated and Jussi all over again i just think MON should sign a permanent keeper rather patching a hole with a temp. |

Like most of you im not going to believe it till it is official. It would be good if Carson did come as after Gordon he was the keeper most people wanted at Villa. It maybe only a season long loan but if we can do well and get into europe i think MON could get him to stay. He wouldnt want to go back onto Pools bench when he could be playing week in week out for a good team. I hope by then the crazy transfer money will have gone down as £12M is too much for a keeper. Its true though what other people have said. This sounds risky. Another one of our targets Itandje is going to join Liverpool if the deal goes through. Didnt we have him on trial? We should have snapped him up if we had the chance as many of the top clubs want him. I think though if Liverpool do get him that means that they are odviously expecting Carson to move on. Hope it does go through. Im not going to be silly and act like i never wanted Gordon. I was very upset we didnt get him but if this time next year we have signed Carson perminently for a nice price i will say that we got the better deal. |

The keeper i wanted to see and the keeper many insiders believe MON wanted to see was celtics Arthur Boruc who unfortunately picked up an injury at the same time as Tommy and that has really left MON scampering round for another keeper, and was willing to splash out 9 million on Gordan. |

Not sure if it's been mentioned yet: Official site have said that MON hopes to sort out the deal for Carson on a season long lone tomorrow.  As long as Liverpool don't do anything stupid, I am a happy man. |
