Okay, so it's in the Sun but according to the newspaper of newspapers Martin O'Neill is chasing Liam Rosenior from Fulham.
The plan A player for Martin O'Neill is very much Jose Bosingwa of Porto but Porto are asking more than Martin O'Neill wants to pay.
While I'm all for not feeling cheated when buying new players it's not as is it's his money and there is no budget, or was that just talk?
Well, it doesn't matter right now but it will start to matter next week because the season kicks off next weekend. Expect a few signings next week and enjoy this afternoon if you are going.

I may be the only one, but i think that Rosenior is a quality player. He may not be first choice at Fulham, but every time I've seen him play, he's looked assured and competent. I don't know about this bloke from Porto, though to play for Porto and Portugal, he can hardly be bad. All i know is that we need some kind of right back by Wednesday at the very latest for them to even hope of playing against Liverpool.
We also NEED a proper goalkeeper, because if Taylor is playing against the scousers, we will get anihilated. If Hangeland is coming in to play as a full back, then that should be all the signings we NEED. We could do with another striker, a 20 goal sort, in the Defoe or dare i say leroy lita mould. Someone who just scores for fun.
:) ;) :D ;D >:( :( :o 8) :P :-\ :-* :'(
those faces suit villa neva no wot u gona get
I actually thought Rosenior was pretty good for Fulham last season playing out of position at left back. He played most games but with Hughes moving to Fulham and Konchesky also signing it doesn't look like he has much of a future there. He is a decent player but is he really that much better than Aaron Hughes- I'm not so sure. Okay, he's a few years younger than Hughes and could possibly grow into a really good player but I personally am looking for a right back who's already top quality. From what I've seen of Bosingwa he seems like a decent player and at £3 million I still reckon we should push to sign him.
I think that would be a pretty good signing. He seems to have the right mentality for Villa. On that note, what made us all suddenly believe that buying expensive players was the only way to succeed in the modern game? O'Neill seems to want not only the talent at the club, but the right mentality. The players that have left, some have had the quality to improve us, but not the mentality. If a player plays more than 20 games in a season, and then says he needs to leave to improve his career, then I think O'Neill is right in letting him go. Villa have had, for a long time, one of the finest youth academies in the country, and we should be utilising it more often, getting the hungry young talents in, and not worrying so much about spending big money on names for the sake of it. Besides, our record recently speaks for itself. While we've produced talent like Vassell (well, he was talent), Barry (after nicking him off brighton, admittedly), Davis, Agbonlahor, Moore, Cahill, Gardner, we've tried the route of high profile and high cost signings - Angel, Collymore, Balaban, Curcic, Milosevic, and I for one know which of those groups of players I would prefer in my team. So I'm still very happy at the moment. Especially when I consider less than a decade ago, the media was up in arms about how english talent wasn't being given the chance in the top flight anymore. Man City might be throwing money around like confetti at the moment, but that's no guarantee that any of their players will be able to settle into the English game. I prefer our situation at the moment more than most other clubs in the premiership, and frankly, we're never going to compete in a straight on money vs money contest, so we have to find another way, and I believe O'Neill knows that too, and is going for the other way.
Have we really put in a bid for Curtis Davies of West Brom- £8 million. the Daily Mail and the Sun seem to think so. All I can say is that I bloody well hope so and if so I hope Spurs don't match the bid because then we'd stand no chance of getting him. I must admit Davies has been my preferred choice as a potential signing at CB all summer and the big price tag doesn't bother me because I'm almost sure he will be a top class defender. This could be an exciting week. Jaaskelainen, Hangeland, Davies, Bosingwa, Jeramine Defoe coming in?
am i reading into things to much but nicky shorey has refused a new contract at reading? ps keep the faith
Gormz I was thinking along the same lines but the more I think about are squad the more I realise that we're actually in a pretty good state at Left Back. Bouma was our most improved player last season and has proved he can do a good job there. Also I expect Young to play on the left wing many times this season as well as up front so Barry could feature quite regularly at left back. Certainly wouldn't turn Shorey down though, he's a good player.
I think Rosenior is a decent right back. We need two right backs at the club though, so let him and another battle it out for the spot. Competition is good for the club, always!
Rosenior would be a good signing. i think that he will develop better under mon and villa as a player. we should also keep pushing for hangeland and curtis davis for defence, then we would have a good stronger reserve back row. We must also sign a new keeper !!!!!
A new no1 goalkeeper, three defenders and a striker will be signed before the close of the transfer market. I guarantee.
Forget 4.1 mil for Hangeland, We have the funds, pay 8 mil for Curtis Davies, wha a fantastic signing that would be.
Anyone read about Man City?
Erikson has spent over £40 mil on players who he has only seen video clips of. Never seen them live or im guessin against highly rated opposition which the premiership will offer week in week out.
If MON is stalling in the transfer market because of the inflated prices of players i'm afraid Villa wont be making any additional signings this season! MON has to get his head round the fact that good players cost BIG money and I don't think that he is used to working with such a big budget! So he doesn't want to over spend! Fine! but is that really his concern! I think that RL should be the one worrying about the money NOT MON! If you're gonna argue over £3m for Boswinga (an international and proven talent)then i don't think we're gonna get very far in the transfer market this window!
To Ayersey
Why would MON spend £8m on Curtis Davies(unproven playing at the top level) when he seems to be staling paying £3m for Boswinga (proven international) ?:-\
I did say on here about a month ago that id like to see liam rosinor few reason why
He loves to get up and down the wing
Great energy
Great pace
Is also young and got lots of football left in him
and i really belive he would fit in well with our lads
I started to think he was good last season and for me by far fullhams best player last season
There will be 3-4 signings max. A GK but not a No 1, 1 CB, 1 RB,and maybie 1 more, definatly not Defoe, SWP or Snijder. Also I agree Rosenior is decent.
Sanchez is a long baal merchant so Rosenior would not fit into his plans.
to Merlin1
I didnt say he would offer 8 million, im just saying Curtis Davies in my opinion is a very good player and if we were to go for him we would have to pay £8 million. Personally i think for £8 million he would prove to be a steal for many years to come.
And yes i would also be very happy to see liam rosenior lining up in the claret and blue
i am living in Hong Kong.
I saw his performance last week at Asian Trophy.
He is great but he plays as a right wing rather than right back.
Another world class signing so exciting I have never heard of him
Rosenior would a very good signing i noticed him a season or 2 ago he will play anywhere you ask him without moaning as i heard chris coleman say a number of times last season. Also i hear he is very intelligent guy he went to sixth form(joking) he has degrees or something. He seems a very levelled headed guy so he would a very good back up player or you never know MON might turn him into a even better player like he seems to have the knack of doing.claret blue army
We've already got half of the England U-21 squad. We might as well add Leroy Lita to the claret and blue! In all seriousness, I am a bit skeptical about adding 7 or 8 more players in the next few weeks. Why wasn't it done earlier in the summer?
We've already got loads of young talent. With the likes of Craig, Gabby, Luke, Ashley, NRC, Osbourne, Cahill, and O'Halloran we've got a solid core for the next 7 or 8 years. I'd like to see one or two BIG name players come in and then a few others just to fill in the roster spots. I really would have liked to see Alan Smith. I think he is a tremendous worker out on the pitch and can player as striker or in the centre of midfield. I think Rosenior is a solid player and could really help our squad. BRING IN JUSSI!!!! One thing that is keeping us mid-table is not having a top keeper. UTV. Come on boys! This is our season! Europe next year for sure.
i reckon roseinor would be an ideal signing for villa hes fast and knows what to do with the ball and hes already playing international footy with england under 21s BRING him in
i think hes quick sharp and knows whats around him and he does have expirience in the premiership and if delaney cant come back as good then we need a replacement and we cant keep playing cahill out of positon
