A new rumour: Lens keeper Charles Itandje

Written by Damian

Sky Sports have a habit of making random player links and this is no different. They state that reports from France, although they didn't specify what reports and by whom, report Villa are keen on Lens keeper Charles Itandje.

Lens have just signed 2 keepers and they conceded in about 2/3 of their matches last season so I think we can dismiss this one as a rumour, although never say never.

To be fair obviously apart from the official website.

I find that skysports is the most reliable and doesn't often make up things for the sake of it. Thats not me saying its definately true but just saying

I dont know, it seems the only reliable news comes straight from our very own AV web-site, all other news is total tosh. Let's just sit back and trust in MON as he is no fool. ;)

Gordon should be our priority really. If not, we should look at Kameni or Ustari. Both young and competent.

Does anybody think we should try and test chelseas resolve with letting Cudicini go. I think he would be an excellent signing.

Why has the Carson link gone quiet. I wonder if any of the signings are gonna smash our transfer record. It would be great to bring in at least one double figure super signing.

Have we even enquired about Craig Gordon or Jussi Jaaskelinen yet? My point is that maybe we should make serious offers for these players before being linked to tin-pot french keepers!

According to Craig Gordon's agent, there have been no fresh bids since Hearts turned the £5m offer from Sunderland. If this is the case, MON should get in there and quick !!
Todays reports say that Keane is in talks with another three or four players at the moment and i'd be gutted if Gordon was one of them and we missed out on him.
MON should get Craig's mobile number...it worked with Marlene !!!

2 new rumours flying around today:

"Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill is ready to offer £2.5 million for Arsenal fullback Justin Hoyte.
Arsenal are now prepared to listen to offers for the 22-year-old, says the Mirror."

and

"Aston Villa face stiff competition to land Toulouse midfielder Achille Emana.
Emana has admitted if he is to leave Toulouse, he would prefer a foreign move, but Villa must see off Fiorentina if they are to take the midfielder to England."

Never heard of the second guy, but Hoyte would be a worthy addition :)

I've just had a little scout around and found out that Achille Emana is a 25 year old Cameroon international. He played in the African Nations in 2006 and is described as an attacking midfielder who can play wide right or in the hole.
Arsenal and Gerard Houllier's Lyon were after him in 2005 for £4.77m but he obviously stayed with Toulouse.
West Ham are reportedly interested at the moment to replace Yossi Benayoun. Sounds like a decent player if Houllier and Wenger like him !
If i can find anything on you tube, i'll post the link later.

Hoyte would be a good choice, another youngster with bags of potential & not a bad price to boot.

Just got to big up my main man Hendrie, villa blood running through his veins. wish we had another ten more like him, he his already looking forward & hopeing Sheff Fc draw us in the cup next season so that he can come back.

But this is a good thing as they tend to be fast, powerful, strong and athletes.so lets sign emana, defoe, swp, hoyte and curtis davies or glen johnson

i dont see why everyone wants us to move for ben foster, yeh he has the potential of being great, but hes injured for most of this season, so it wud solve nothing and secondly, we all no its a matter of time before he replace van der sar. im sorry but that transfer just aint gonna happen

i doubt we'll get carson if dudek goes to madrid, i dont think bolton want to let jussi go an want to run his contract out, i think gordon is out of our price range considering the amount of other players we need, so i reckon these kind of rumours will have some truth behind them. still i would love to see gordon between our sticks, think he's quality and will only improve with time. signing him would show our intention and im sure MON would get the best out of him. get him defoe swp and hoyte an id be the happiest villa fan in brum. ;D

I just read a comment from a French football supporter regarding Itandje. He reckons he is probably David James' french cousin ! (lol)
He went on to say that Mandanda is a much better keeper and we are probably being linked with Itandje only because it is common knowledge that Mandanda had a trial here.
Hope this throws some light on the matter.

I personally wouldn't go for the French keeper and would match Hearts asking price for Gordon. His price is irrelevant. I don't like to see too much money mentioned in the same sentence as Villa. We have a significant amount of money to spend and we have also recouped a lot this summer through selling many of our players. We need a new keeper desperately and also need a right back, a left back for cover, another striker and a right midfielder. We should offer the £9-10 million that Hearts are asking for Gordon and we should move for Defoe as he is a lethal finisher. If Spurs want the reported £10 million pounds for him then we should pay it. Hoyte would be a great buy at £2.5 million and we also need a left back either for the first team or cover for Bouma. Why not move for Shorey who I imagine would be available for under £5 million. SWP would also be a great addition to our squad giving pace and quality down the right wing as well as the left with Young. SWP has a reported price tag of £10 million. So if we got all of those players we would have to cough up roughly £37 million bringing our total summer spending to nearly £50 million. Ok its a lot of money to spend but we have already brought in roughly £8 million with the many departures. Plus we need to spend this money if we are to match are ambitions of getting into Europe. Martin O'Neill today spoke of wanting to be able to rotate his squad next season but with the numbers we have at the moment we just about have enough players to complete a match day squad so in my opinion the mentioned transfers are a must but we have to move quickly if we are to get them.

We dont need another left back if bouma gets injured barry can drop back into that position or o hallaron can come in and play there pleanty of cover there for that spot i would say as for defoe i cant see it happening but why not try and sign Klaas Jan Huntelaar who has been great for ajax since his been there i also doubt M.O.N would be in the hunt for him but i reakon he would be a great signing and get us pleanty of goals

Getting Huntelaar is a dream. It won't happen.

SWP may happen. I had worried that, if Robben leaves for Real Madrid, Chelsea would hestitate to part with SWP. But it sounds as though Chelsea will sign Drenthe if Robben leaves.

Jimmy D Wrote: | 23.10BST | Jul 20, 2007

What's delaying the transfer then tone. Jaaskelinen would be a great signing but I would personally prefer Gordon as he is much younger however Jussi will be a good bit cheaper and if that means there is the possibility to sign more players then Jussi is probably the better option however I don't think that money should come into play but MO'N seems to think otherwise.
