Porto looking to tempt John Carew with warmer weather

This is from the Mirror so it really shouldn't be thought of as anything other than made up by picking out two names from a hat, but it has come up before.
I got an email from someone a while ago saying Porto were interested in John Carew and I'm sure I've read it on a forum somewhere too.
But is he really going to want to leave? In short, the answer is no. He could have stayed in France if Champions League football was that important to him and I think playing in the Premiership is more of an appeal to him than basically, just the better weather he'll get in Portugal.
I really do believe this is just paper talk, probably Oliver Holt trawling the message boards and picking up on something that hasn't been published or written about much, however we don't really know the circumstances of why Carew left Lyon last seasons and we really haven't heard that much from the player.
Rumour likelihood: It's one of those strange ones where everything is possible. It's strange because it's rumoured Martin O'Neill is after two Porto players so this could be the sweetener for them. However, I would fancy the chances of my wife going through this weekend without saying "do you 'really' need another beer" as more likely.

There is no chance of him leaving, he wants to be part of what MON is doing. And it would be a step down playing in portugal, like going to scotland..!

sweetner? Yes maybe, all the more sweeter if we get Huntlaar and Defoe to replace AND Alves & Bosingwa in the deal. Big john is certainly a man among men but he hasn't looked that good in the air for a big man, and missed a few sitters (put it down to adjusting), but sure he wont score more than 10 or 12 in all competitions. Maybe there is more to that Harewood story too.......?

Carew has been nothing short of superb since joining us! He never backs out of a challenge and never misses a header. Alan Shearer is a big fan, so thats good enough for me!
big john wont be going anywhere you can see he loves it at villa. hes from norway so being in england is like going on a sun holiday to spain
No chance of Carew going. The bloke has been immense since he signed in January. To say he hasn't looked that good in the air is ridiculous dd. :'( Last season in some games we changed our style of play because of Carew, high balls in for him to knock it down and other teams picked up on that. Once we started playing it to his feet we were a different team.
With more additions to follow after NRC sign's (today?) we are in for a cracking season ahead!!

john carew aint goin no where, hes only been with villa for half a year so i doubt he would wanna leave after such short time especially with the way villa are moving forward
I heard good and bad things about Carew but on the evidence so far we must keep him at Villa. Fast, strong, clever and totally dedicated to putting in massive effort in every game. I think that this is just another tripe story that disgusting papers like the mirror print. Have we all forgotten about that Hoax photo they printed showing british soldiers abusing iraq's POW's? Just shows you the level of the Mirror.
You right Damian, if Carew wanted CL football he would've stayed with Lyon.
I think the Villa vision might've tempted him here and I doubt Porto have the same promising future. They are probaby ahead of us (in terms of their league and Europe), but we will get there.
DD, he doesn't score many goals because he is a target-man, he's an assisting striker, he nods the ball on and gives flick-ons to bring other into play. So don't expect the big man to be in the top goalscoring list. Probably top of the assist though, if we happen to score more than 2 goals a game every now and then (apart from Sheffield utd. we never did)
Carew is more than a target man, he's very clever, good on the ball and likes to run at defences aswell.
Remember Carew's record was played 11 games (never fully fit), was subbed in pretty much every game to try to build his fitness and when he got going he got injured and missed a few games, in that time he scored three goals and yes he missed some chances, but at least he was getting himself in there.
I wanna see him fully fit and raring to go against Liverpool, think we'll see just how good he really is next season,
O'Neill isn't stupid and if he thinks Carew will take us places i'll back him 100%, just wish we could add a few more signings, quickly!!
It is not very likely that the weather will affect where he wants to play. He is Norwegian, remember. Also, with the comments he has made in the media, this is simply rubbish. John is looking to settle down, club is on the way up, perfect league for him. What could go wrong?

i agree with you which was why i used the weather as an excuse because it's the only thing i can see they can use .. 'come play for porto, we are, erm, have .. warmer weather'
He said 6 months ago he would like to end his career here and prove himself in the premier league so dont think much would have changed even with champions league football on offer.
Iv watched john for a few years now and have never really liked him but i have to addmit he done really well for us last season if it wasnt for him and his goals then we mite have gone down last season only thing that worries me with john is that he has started well for every club he played for then he just seems to fade away like at lyon first 10games 7goals then 20games no goals thats the only thing that worries me about him but if we get bellamy we will be ok as he will get us pleanty of goals the pace of bellamy young and gabby would be terrorising for defences i also expect big things from shaun maloney next season the kid has some fantastic tricks :P

Carew is a real breath of fresh air at Villa. I personally hope this is a nonsense rumour as I can see him scoring 20 for Villa this Season.
