Wright-Phillips, Young and Carson today
Written by Damian

It's all paper talk and seeing as I've not got that long today I'm going to keep it quick, as I suspect we might have some official news from the club fairly soon.

The Daily Mirror reckon Martin O'Neill is interested in Scott Carson from Liverpool for £3.5mn. and while it's only a rumour it's one of the positions we are in desperate need of filling.

Naturally Thomas Sorensen won't believe this as he's convinced he's the number one for next season. I'd still rather have Craig Gordon but Carson is a good keeper.

In other quick news today; Shaun Wright-Phillips is mentioned again, this time in the Daily Star and it's still £10mn. You know I'm not convinced but still, we've got the cash and cover for both wide positions so why not?

Last one today is Luke Young of Charlton for £3mn. and it's in the Mirror. Luke Young most definitely isn't the type of player to take the club forward and I'm 100% certain that this rumour is pure paper talk and is probably somehow linked to Luke Young mentioning to someone in a bar that he was 'off to his Villa' when talking about where he was going on holiday.

Rumour likelihood: I've got a feeling Wright-Phillips is coming as the price is static and we nearly did the deal in January. As for Carson and Young; we need players for both positions but if these two players come I'll drag that cold pizza I've just thrown in the bin from two days ago and eat it.

These three players would bring lots a quality and depth, apparantly MON has 30 million to spend. so these would do nicely along with some super quality players. my pick would be Sneijder, wright-phillips, vanden borre and forlan.

It wasn't too long ago that Young was an England right back. I'm sure you could name other right backs we could go for who are in our reach? MONs building a top 6 team to begin with my friend, he's not going to be doing a Jose Moriniho. So all 3 of the players we've been linked with today would be welcomed with wide open arms for most fans. All though i have read your posts before and you seem a hard chap to please!

3 Great signings for me. Carson would be real competition for Sorenson, Young is better than any right back we have and Wright Phillips would be excellent.

Get real on Sneijder and Forlan, they are 3 years away.

These players would push us up a level.

Team:

Sorenson/Carson
Young Mellberg Laursen Bouma
Wright-Phillips Petrov Barry Young
Carew Gabby

Excellent! Just need a top striker to play with Carew. Defoe please.

Young is an OK player, not the type to take us forward, i would b very very suprised if we signed an English Right Back, as they are all s**t except the Neviller...

Carson is a very good keep, bar his awful keeping in the penalty shoot out the other day, very happy with his capture if we ot him

and SWP, why not him and Young on the wings is an ace prospect, but could he rediscover his form ??

I have read these rumours in the Daily mail as weell. I think the more quality competition, as well as a top draw first eleven is essential.
If we do get a few players in that don't tick all our boxes, it maybe MON see's them as squad players. Because we don't want to end up like Chelsea with 20 players needing games, then sell them on the cheap because of a lack of first team football.
I keep checking for transfer news, however until I see the player holding a Villa shirt, nothing is guranteed!!!

Wright-Philips under MON could be as good as anyone.
Carson is too young, everyone knows that keepers get better with age and although he is a half decent stopper, he was awful in the Penalty shoot out.
Young is better than what we have but not a world beater.

i agree with nick higginson

team next season should be-

carson
young mellberg laursen bouma
wright-phillips petrov barry young
carew bent.

i agree with him. but i would rather have bent thatn defoe any day!!! bent garentees you goals!!! i wud pay the 18m askin price for him. as he garentees you at least 20goals a season if not more, and the supply he wud get from wright-phillips and young aout wide, feeding off carew's flicks and with the pssing and through balls of barry and petrov, and luke youngs crossing, aswell as making his own goals!!! he wud get us 20 goals a season at least for sure maybe nearer 25!!!

up the villa!!!!!!!!!!!!! BENT ALL THE WAY

Forget young i'd personaly sign another centre half and play Melberg at right back.We dont need an attacking full back with the pace and width we already have.We need some 1 with a real presence in the box as our defending from set-peices is woefull.I would go for Zat Knight he is a good defender a local lad and scores the occasional header

Would love to see Sneijder and Drenthe arrive. Cant say Im a big Forlan Fan, prem defenders have his number. It will be impossible to sign top striker without europe this season might have to go for another kid.

Well this is a tough call. I don't necessarily think we are going to get any truly big signings. I think we are looking at Koumas, Robinson, possibly Zat Knight from Fulham, although we may see someone light Alan Smith join us. I do have a major concern though, and that is Man City. West Ham could probably out bit us on players, but I think at the minute we are still above them, but Erikson might have the extra sway with someone like SWP.
I think we will probably bring in 6-7 players, but I don't think we will pay any more than 7 million for a player is O'Neills past buying policy is anything to by.

Don't get me wrong I am really looking forward to the new season and I think we will be going places, but I will be surprised if he spends £15 million on one player.

Also am I the only person that thinks Forlan is crap? Defoe or Keane would be 1st choice of striker, Nugent maybe, but I do think we will be buying mainly British players.

Of course nothing will bring me greater joy than having my words shoved down my throat when we sign Babel, Drenthe and Sneijder.

wright-phillips would be a fantastic sighning so o'neil has to make a move for him. we could easily get young with a 4 million offer then we just need a stricker. lyon's fred isnt a bad player. p.s im happy with the sighning of reo-coker.
