Oh Reo-Coker and Hugo Lloris from Nice

The player says we've made a bid but we've heard nothing from West Ham and we've finally heard from the club on the Nigel Reo-Coker situation.

The news from the club is that there has been no bid from Villa. There is no confirmation that the clubs have not spoken or that preliminary enquiries have been made or that West Ham have allowed, or even not allowed, Aston Villa to talk to the player.

In fact to some extent Head of Media, Phil Mepham, has only gone and told us when Reo-Coker will be joining when he said "If there was ever any credence to the Reo-Coker reports that Villa wanted to sign him, then that would not happen anyway while he is away with the under-21s."

So, for me, it's a case of waiting until when the tournament is over. There is certainly some credence to this story because the players agent has as good as said he'll be playing for Villa next season.

In other speculation; because everything is speculation at the moment, according to something I might have read or dreamt about some time in the last twelve or so hours, Martin O'Neill is giving the glad eye to Nice keeper Hugo Lloris.

Lloris is 21 years old and this season has pretty much been first choice for Nice, which despite what we may all think about the standard of French football, is still a decent enough achievement.

Still and despite never seeing him play I'd take him over Sorensen, only because we need a new keeper and I suspect he's as good if not better just because it's thought teams like Lazio and Lyon are also chasing the player.

Anyway; it's not likely to be a slow day, because and I'll get this in before we see another story from the official site, the fixture list is out in about 90 minutes.

Don't you worry, I'll be commenting on it; especially if we get West Ham in the first game, as someone has said on the Avillafan forums last night that it's a certainty.

ermmm...yes he does need the clubs permission.

A bid has to be accepted by the club before you can talk to the player whether he's transfer listed or not. Obviously in reality that doesn't always happen and clubs always put the feelers out to the players agent first but still...

I would rather see a 'keeper such as Sebastian Frey or George Ijtande (both at French clubs) that Lloris, but i suppose we are building for the future. Another brilliant potential 'keeper is Raul at Atletico Madrid's B team, he got the most clean sheets and conceded the least goals last term (well, still one game left) and he played every game. That is quite an achievement, bring him in! Since we don't have Olejnek or Henderson anymore we could do with a reserve goalie and a potential for the future.

Arthur Boruc would still be my first choice as I think he was superb for Celtic last season behind a somewhat average and inexperienced defence. I can't really comment on the young Nice 'keeper as I must admit I've never seen him in action. If we are unable to get Boruc this summer I still think that there are plenty of quality 'keepers available such as Carson, Jaaskelinen, Gordon and more. I really hope that the talk of Villa's transfer activity starting imminently is true as I am really starting to get bored waiting for it all to happen!!!!!!!!

Lloris is the one in the Yellow Jersey, looks like he played well in this match against Auxerre.
