Daily rumours include Shunsuke Nakamura and Alan Smith

The Alan Smith one is in the Sun and it's all because apparently Manchester United are not going to offer him a new contract, which in doing so, is set to spark a bidding battle between Tottenham, Everton, Middlesbrough and Aston Villa.

Personally, I'd let Spurs, Everton or Middlesbrough have him, but that's just my opinion. I think in Gabby, Luke and Carew we've got as good, if not better.

The other rumour is current Celtic midfielder Shunsuke Nakamura. I know; it's another link to Celtic but I don't think this player was signed by Martin O'Neill and he does have two qualities that fit into the new Aston Villa.

First, he plays on the right side of midfield and second, he's quite possible the most well known Asian player playing in Europe so opens up doors into Japan and the Far East.

Business aside, I've only seen Shunsuke Nakamura on YouTube so can't really comment, but he doesn't seem to be the best right sided midfielder ever and he is 29 years old; not that long left. Doesn't matter; it's only a rumour.

im unsure of alan smith. i like his never say die attitude but im not sure he is the goal scoring machine we need. i like the idea of new attackers especially bent or bellamy but my only concern is that neglecting gabby and luke could be costly especially if we have to sell them and they go elsewhere and set the world apart. its risky but i think we should stick with gabby and luke and bring in another young but non-guaranteed starter who is a good prospect as support

You can have Smith, Our Strike force is not a problem.
On the other hand, Spurs will have Nakamura. I would love to see him in our central midfield, as he is an intelligent player, and is deadly on the dead ball. At the moment i reckon he is one of Celtic's best players. I like Celtic though and won't loose too mush sleep if he stays with them.

Alan Smith appears to be in a sort of nomandsland now that Ferguson tried to convert him to a midfielder. I think he's not sure what skills he should be using and how to apply himself to the game sometimes. Fergie should've left him as a striker cuz he's a class player when he gets stuck in. Still, he'd be a good addition.

Not interested Nakamura, I think he's not going to bring much at his age. I reckon this is just another Celtic rumour. MON's got money now so he can get quality players from quality clubs.

Nakamura would be a good signing for us, he'd solve our right-wing troubles, giving Ashley Young cover too. Scotland to England is a big step-up as we've seen with Maloney but i think Maloney will be deadly for us next season after 5 months of learning the trade. Nakamura or Vanden-Borre please.

News is on Sky Sports.com that Luke Moore is staying at Villa Park for years to come. His agent claims Luke is dedicated to Villa.

Let's go for another young gun up front. Luke, Gabby, and Young could be the best strikers in the country in 3 or 4 years time, lets get Nugent in to add to the talent we've got. He's a slightly different striker to what we've got, slightly bigger, stronger, but still has bags of pace and a stikers finish.

I agree with Alex, I'd definately rather see someone like Nugent come in and battle for a place up front rather than seeing a big name player striker come in and take one of the forward roles.

I think we should have gone for Viduka personally, Viduka/Carew/Gabby/Moore/Maloney/Young would have been an excellent selection of forwards for next season.

Those forwards with a new creative midfielder, keeper and right back brought in would propel Villa top six next season I reckon.

I can see the appeal of Nakamura too.

The striker we need is Bent, someone with muscle and presence, i wouldnt go for Smith, Nakamura maybe, depends on what he costs, not more than 5 million

I don't want Smith. Judging by his performance against Brazil. He looked completely off the pace.

Is anyone else excited about Ashley Young 4 next season? Pure class yesterday!

Smith is crap. I wouldn't put him in a school team, he's an aliability. i would rather see bent, defoe or nugent.

I've never been impressed with Smith. I'm not sure why he's on the England team. Of coure, you could say that for a few other players. Love to have Nakamura, though. We could use someone to drop some free kicks in for Carew and co.

Alan Smith is a lazy player with on a lower championship level of football, I was scared that his name might come up linked with us as it was only a matter of time that utd would get rid of him. Hopefully it will go no further, I am sure MON has much more sence than to even dream of taking him even if he was on a free!!!

What are you all talking about Naka for? Are you mad? Who do you think you are - Celtic playing in the English Premier League? We all know MON is a die-hard Celtic fan, but he is not trying to re-create the dream team at Villa Park. AV are mediocre at best, no chance of CL football either. Naka is sheer class and your knowledge is like most of your countrymen's: gained through a myopic view of ENGURLAND. Get real - Youtube is a good Scottish descriprion of each one of the commentators on Naka.
Hail Hail.

Lets not waste our time with Alan Smith or Defoe, a few weeks ago i read that we were linked with Arouna Kone of PSV. That makes sense to me,he had a solid season and may be able to make an impact similar to that of Dwight Yorke all those years ago. He is strong quick and likely available for less cash than Bent. Im not entirely sold on Reo Coker at this stage either, especially if that price keeps rising, Sneijder and De Jong together would be fantastic. Its funny though, all season weve been told that experienced players are on their way,but every tranfer target on rader for us is under 23. I guess it doesnt matter a lot especially if the players are of the quality and potential of Sneijder and DeJong. I think the thought of Nakamura got every Villa fan salivating at the mouth, but i think we need to address the void upfront, Gabby, Ash Young and Moore could be rotated up front and on the wings
