Villa in talks with Matty Taylor

I've just read on Birmingham Post website that we are in talks with Pompey's Matt Taylor.

I'm not sure how true this is but they don't usually come out with this sort of thing unless it's got an element of truth behind it.

I like Matt Taylor a lot; he's got a sweet left foot and is excellent going forward as well as strong at the back. Would I want him at Villa? Definitely.

Matty Taylor has a superb shot with either foot and can run all day long but to actually say he is good at the back is to show your limited knowledge of Portsmouth fc and Matty Taylor.
He is poor defensively and must be used further up the park for any impact. He is a natural wing back but in the prem they are found out and exploited by most other sides.
The fact he is English and left footed make him a saleable asset. With the imminent arrival of £7 millionman Sulley Muntari who plays left midfield and with Niko Krancjar also at the club Pompey can afford to sell him.
However, both Spurs and Newcastle will also jump in at some point and if I am honest Spurs will get him!
The price must be at least £5 million maybe more!

He is staying at Pompey.

Why would we let one of our best young English players leave??

O'Neil can look but can not have!

Since when did Pompey fans run the club?
Taylor would be a brilliant replacement for J'lloyd, he's much more talented and will always give 100%, unlike dopey donkey Samuel. £5 million for him i'd say. If not him, i've checked up on a few stars abroard, Nuri Sahin at Borussia Dortmund is a 19 year-old Turkish playmaker, he can play all midfield positions and has the potential to be a Ronaldo or a Figo. With that in mind, £10mil would probably be needed to lure him away from Germany. Taylor is all good at attacking but his defensive skills leave a lot to be desired, we'd be better off signing him as a left-winger and stick Barry in the middle, therefore i'd recommend bringing in Atunes, the portugese star linked with us who can play left-back and right-back so we can have cover for Bouma and Hughes/Delaney.

id pay £3.5m maximum, cant believe some of you would pay 5million. Hes had a good season, scored a few great goals, the 2 seasons before hes been average at best. Plus bouma has also got a sweet left foot and hes alot more solid

If you read the article, it doesn't actually say that he's about to sign, which is probably why it's not been written about anywhere else. It's more likely to be based on sources close to the player indicating that he'd like to move back northwards, rather than him actually having talks with O'Neill and the Villa powers that be.
In saying that he'd be a cracking signing for us!

An average signing at best. Can't see him (or anyone!) displacing Bouma. Can you see him playing in Champions League in 3 years? No, nor can I.

A greater show of intent please Randy and Martin.

bouma has a sweet left foot! apparently but in 2 years i aint seen it! matt taylor is a different player to bouma. hes a midfielder who can play defence like barry. do you not remember the free kicks bouma took in his first season! dont get me wrong, i think hes top defender tho

Nick Higginson said:

We need many new players in many new positions, but left footers are no high on the agenda, except for back up. If Taylor will be happy on the bench, thne great.

As far as I am concerned, Barry and Bouma are two of the best left footers in the Premiership.

Now the right side on the other hand, is a different story......

He's an average player with a couple of party pieces up his sleeve. Villa are focused on progressing up the league and they need players of superior quality to Taylor.

Matty Taylor is a decent player but I don't think his quality matches Villa's ambitions. I can only see him being signed as a bit part player. Villa are strongly being linked with Sneijder at the moment and have heard recently that D Bent Luis Fabiano and even Kewell are linked signings does anyone have any news on them?

Read in the paper today that he is on his way to us for £5M. I think he is a decent defender who has had a really good year but can he replicate it? Also read that Liverpool want £12M for Bellamy he did score a few goals for Wales today but are they crazy? £12M for a known trouble maker who is pretty good but not worth £12. I also read another rumour that dissapointed me. Apprently we are after Harewood from WHU if so i think this is under ambitious as he isnt the quality of player we want and tbh i think our stikers now are better than him so he would be a waste of money. Also read that Nigel Reo Cocker is free to leave WHU to anyone who is willing to pay £8M. I think he may just be worth it and if the rumour is true and we can get in there quickly there may just be chance but he will probably go to a London club.

As regards to the Sneijder rumour. I dont want to be a pesamist but i dont think he will come this season as clubs who are playing in the Champions League want him and we cant offer him european football at the moment. If he did come i would be extremely happy and i put nothing past O'neill as he is respected and is odviously imporving Villa loads. Kewell to Villa i hope not he is injury prone and about of a ponce. D Bent yes please but not for £18M maybe £12M tops and we will have got a good deal.

I am hoping to see some signings soon but i dont think we will sign any big names from any English clubs. I think martin will go looking in Europe for cheaper players & less known players who he thinks can improve Villa. If the signings dont come this season i will still maintain my backing in O'neill as he is a quality manager and we seem to have got the squad sorted and i think without many new players we can make a push for Europe next season.

I have heard from a very reliable source that Nigel Reocoker will be coming to villa within the next couple of weeks for a fee in the region of 6 million it is believe this will conincide with the sale of gavin mc cann to sunderlan; where this will leave the talented steve davis of 2005/2006 who knows???
On another note congratulations to JPA who is 3 in 3 for the NY Red Bull; hope it continues we never saw the best of you.

Loose McCann, but dont flog the kids, Davis, Ridgewell, etc, LOAN THEM OUT!
Take an example from a previous Manager:

"P'wease Mr O'leary can we have Crouch for a couple of quid? We are a bit stwapped for cash at the moment!", "Duuuuur, ye OK", "Ohhh thanks, you gullable twat!, K'CCHHHIIIING"
