Footballing gospel, the News of the World have Steven Davis heading to London to hook up with Lawrie Sanchez at Fulham while Sanchez convinces Harrods owner Mohamed Al Fayed to part with £3,000,000.
It's not always rubbish from the News of the World and they might be spot on with this as Sanchez likes Davis and he's going to want players around him he knows something about. The thing is with Davis, he wants first team football and he may very well be stupid enough to sacrifice a 'bright future' for the cash and first team football of West London.
I don't actually expect Sanchez to keep the job for much of next season and this would be a mistake for Davis. Move to a United or Liverpool but players at his age shouldn't be taking such big steps down.
If you think that the Sunday Times, because of it's broad sheet status, is more honest or truthful then you're possibly going to like these next ones. They are running with the rumour that Nugent, Bellamy and Defoe are on the top of the shopping list for Martin O'Neill. I'd really like one if not all three of those players but I just think O'Neill will be going after someone else to play up front. But if we are going to sign anyone this summer t play up front I'd like Nugent.
There is another rumour doing the rounds that Shaun Wright Phillips is coming. If the club sign him for a couple of million I think that would be good business but I just don't see what so many others see in him and I've heard he's on his way to Spurs.
He's had plenty of chances this season at Chelsea and despite a couple of goals at West Ham, has looked average every match I've seen him play. I think he'll do better at Spurs despite the potential hostility towards him because of the team his step father played for.
Martin O'Neill knows what he is doing, so if he comes he comes and I'm sure the manager will get out of him exactly what he wants to, so who am I to suggest he go after someone with real proven ability.
Something on the FA Cup from yesterday coming up, after I've cut the grass.

Firstly I have'nt been this excited about a new season since Ron Atkinsons tenure! SWP is down on confidence right now and I guess the way Chelsea play may not suit him. Chelsea passed the ball in the final third fewer than any other Premier team this [quote][quote][quote]season...even the relegated teams! So I believe this has affected SWP, Robbin has not as effective either. SWP would be a fine attacking player for Villa. The top teams always have the option to play with two wingers. Nugent's performances dipped towards the end of season but he is a good young English player. Villa need one good striker and winger. After that we can concentrate on the goalkeeper, defence and midfield.
Yea three excellent players. To be quite honest I definately think Bellamy and Defoe are better than Nugent. If Bellamy or Defoe was at Villa and having regular games they'd be full of confidence and would bang in the goals! ;D
Wright-Phillips is going back to spurs?
I think that's definately just a rumour because i do't see why they'd need anyone for the right wing with players like Lennon and Routledge, interesting one if it happens...as for Defoe and Bellamy, hell yeah!
No longer bothered about SWP with Maloney & Young here, both great young players. Bellamy's one of those isn't he?

My bad with Wright-Phillips, i got confused with Man City, still don't think Tottenham really need him though.
Would love it if we signed SWP and Defoe, not so keen on Bellamy especially with his rumoured price tag of £8 million. I would like to see Villa being linked with more attack minded midfielders as I believe this is the place where we desperately need to strengthen with Davis possibly leaving and hopefully smiler will be on his way.Has anyone heard of any potential transfers of midfielders to VP ?
i think Davies was unlucky not to get a run in the side last season. Petrov was not at his best for long spells and Davies may have converted some of those mid season draws into wins.
Defoe would be my choice ahead of Bellamy. He has a proffesional approach to the game that Bellamy lacks and is also a natural goal scorer.
i still like SWP.
Defoe is highly overrated and never ever passes. He will shoot from anywhere even when his teammates are in better positions.
Not good for the team and I think that he likes his London lifestyle too much.
I agree totally with Lloydy, it is exciting times at the Villa. I think wether we get Nugent or Defoe they wil only add to the strength and depth that the side has so badley craved during the Ellis era. Both are fantastic strikers(even if Defoe is greedy). As far as the Bellamy rumour goes, lets just hope that this one isn't true. Good as he is, his disruptive nature cant be good, even though MON has a proven track record of turning the so called bad boys of football around, I think it would be a step backwards. Attacking midfielders are something we desperately lack, hopefully MON with sort that out, there was a rumour kicking around about a cameroonian player from France coming over, apparently he's quite usefull and a comparative snip at £3M. Defence could be another issue especially if Laursen breaks down with injury again, graned we have Cahill as cover, but he is still learning the game. Lets hope its as exciting in the close season as it has been so far. Long live the Randylution.
Also, Sanchez keep your money, we dont need it. Davis is a potential supertar in the making.
havnt seen much of nugent, bellamy or defoe are both good but one is a loudmouth & the other selfish, but they both have the sort of clever movment we lack up front.just wondering if say crew got injured we would be lacking a big hold up man, so maybe oneil might be looking at someone else or two strikers? darren bent might be a better target, he could play off, or as a target man.
Does anyone know anything about this Portugese left back that Villa are supposedly chasing plus am after seeing in a few places that Bellamy is as good as a done deal.
Have spoken to a couple of friends, who for some unknown reason follow foreign football leagues. Apparently the portuguese left back has been excellent all season only 20 or 21. Supposedly one for the future.
Defoe and Nugent would be good signings. Bellamay can stay at liverpool, we don't need a player like him, not when every club he goes to he gets into trouble of some sort. personally i would go for a new goalkeeper, a couple of defenders and midlielders, and some decent strikers. what about Van der Vaat for midfield?
Van der Vaart would be a quality addition to our squad but he's also been linked with European giants such as Bayern, Inter, Real and Man Utd. I hope we can compete with such teams in the not too distant future but at the moment I think we may struggle to attract the likes of Van der Vaart if he's being linked with clubs like that as well. Would be a great signing though. There's talk we might be singing Kevin Doyle, does anyone have any news on that?
Ive heard that SWP is coming too, and im delighted.
Look at this team.
Boruc, Luke Young, Bouma, Laursen, Mellberg, SWP, Barry (centre midfield),Petrov, Young, Carew, Defoe/Bellamy
This team would be top 6 pushing top 4!
Haven't heard any news on van der vaart, however have seen a couple of links with Ajax's Wesley Sneijder, there's no mention of a potential fee as yet, but that would be one hell of a feather in MON's cap if he can pull that one off. He's and awsome playmaker, he's the one that generally makes Ajax tick. Hope that rumour is true. ;D
With MAN.U signing hargreaves how about a bid for Carrick
APPIAH !!! Stephen Appiah is the player villa need to sign for the midfield. He is the physical embodiment of a 'midfield general'. Tailor made for the premiership too, he's combative, got a great engine, scores the occasional goal and is a composed passer - he's got it all! He would be the focal point that kept villa ticking over. Appiah with someone like sneijder in front of him would be glorious, barry out on the left.
Yes - The Times is reporting that "Antunes" - I think he is called - is coming to Villa and JLloyd is off to Bolton. Apparently Antunes plays for a side called Pacos de Ferreira. It may explain why MON was on his way to Madrid recently - to change flights for a weird Portuguese city??? My view? Freddie Bouma has done enough to get the number 3 shirt next season...
we should'nt think about getting Defoe or Nugent we should just get bellamy because we've already got Carew. we should get the Hearts keeper, Antunes and another midfeilder.
and Sanchez take your money back your'e not getting Davis.
Well personally if I were Davis, I would give it until the January transfer window, and if by then with a lot of effort he hasnt persuaded MON to give him regular football, I wouldnt blame him for going.
As regards Defoe, if he could play like he did against Villa at White Hart Lane this year, scoring with ease a goal with his left as well as right foot, I would really like to see him up front with the likes of Carew, Gabby or Ashley Young. I wouldnt be surprised if he would like to come to Villa. Tottenham seem to prefer Berbatov and Keane to him. I think he would play great off Carew!
What happened to that toulose player we were going to get and Darren Bent? And why are we trying to get all these players that arent going to want to leave their clubs, why dont we try and get players from clubs that are not as good as us but we should definately try and get Bellamy he is definetely going to leave Liverpool.
I'd like Defoe, because I reckon he would score more goals if he was given more games. At Spurs he's part of a rotation system, AND he's got Berbatov and Keane to compete with. I would also like Nugent, because I think he could potentially be one of England's top strikers. I don't really want Bellamy because I think he has a bad attitude, and also I don't think he's consistent enough to help us challenge for european football which, let's face it, is what we want to achieve!
i think defoe would be the way to go. not sure on bellamy he's got a bad boy image that villa dnt need.lets keep davis a little at least abit longer i think this guy will be a star
